This coffee machine makes coffeeI was on a 4 a.m. train from Flagstaff to Kansas City, a twenty-hour ride. Luckily I had a window seat and the one next to me was empty. Full privacy. My insatiable desire for caffeine and the inability to get it anywhere at such an early hour got me browsing Amazon for coffee machines. I started to look at a few candidates but before I even realized, I was out cold sleeping.A few hours later I was woken up by the sound of someone loading their baggage into the overhead. “Hi,” a girl says and sits down next to me. I smiled only to be polite and turned away because inside I was boiling. To rip me out of deep sleep like that, to deprive me of my two-seat privacy… outrageous. I gave her a second glance.Pretty. Very pretty. Dark curly hair. Wow, I couldn’t believe it. My anger dissolved, I quickly looked away, got nervous, clammed up.For the next few hours I tried to come up with ways to start a conversation with the girl while pretending to read a book. She kept sighing, changing positions, as if bothered by something, as if nudging me to speak up. I just didn’t know what or how to say it. I mean sure, I could introduce myself. But have you any idea how hard that is when you’re nervous? When you get in your head? The crazy thoughts that reel through your mind in violent bursts, the body heat fluctuations, quivers in speech. Anything you say in that state of mind will come out awkward, weird, creepy even. When I’m nervous around a pretty girl I can make a simple “hi” sound like I’m trying to chain her to a radiator down in my basement. I decided not to say anything, instead I got up to go to the bathroom. “Excuse me,” I smiled. She moved out of my way energetically and smiled back.“I looked through your stuff,” the girl said as I wiggled back past her into my seat. “I hope you don’t mind…”“I’m sorry. What?” I didn’t understand fully.“Your book,” she pointed to my book in the seat pocket. It was back in its place now. “I went through it. I hope you don’t mind.”I didn’t know what to say. I just looked at her.“I saw your letter from Harvard. You’re going to Harvard? My mom went there.” She kept on like nothing happened.I did have an acceptance letter from Harvard folded up in my book, but it wasn’t real. I made it myself as a sort of ‘positive visualization’ tool. I was into all that self-help stuff for a brief stretch. It doesn’t work. Long story short, I never even applied to Harvard.In any case, I went along with it. “Yea, I start in the Fall.”“Cool,” she said, but didn’t actually seem impressed. As if going to Harvard was the same as going to Burger King. “Oh. I also went through your wallet,” she added. “I hope it’s not a problem.”My wallet was in the seat pocket as well.What the hell is wrong with this girl? “Did you steal anything?” I asked while reaching for the wallet.“NO. Of course not!” She knitted her brows and frowned, then violently threw her back towards me.“Ok, OKAY. I believe you,” I said. “I won’t even check. See?” I put the wallet back into the pocket without opening it. She peaked over her shoulder and watched me.“Where you going to?” the girl turned towards me again, smiling.“Making my way to New York City—”“This train doesn’t go to NEW YORK,” she cut me off. “I take it all the time. My dad lives in New Mexico and my mom — I live with my mom — she lives in Dodge City. It’s where I’m going now. Dodge City. That’s in Kansas. Jesus, I thought you’d NEVER put that book down.”“How old are you?” I asked.“Eighteen.”I gave her a sharp look.“I swear,” she said. “You want to see my ID or something?” she rolled her eyes. “Jesus Christ.”“There’ll be no need for that,” I answered.Then we shot the breeze to kill the time. She’s won three cheerleading competitions. Plays video games in her spare time. Likes animals, farm animals mainly, cows particularly. The mountains in Colorado are no easy hike. When you have fast metabolism you can eat whatever you want and never gain weight. She didn’t realize the sun was also a star.Eventually we both fell asleep.A rustling sound woke me up. “We’re in Dodge City.” The girl was getting her suitcase from the overhead.“Already?” I asked, all sleepy and confused.“Mm-hmm.”“That was fast.”“Mm-hmm.” She rushed a few things into the suitcase. “Ok, I’m going,” the girl said once everything was zipped up. “Travel safe. This was fun.”“Say hi to your mom,” I gave her a wave and went back to sleep.“Sir. Your stop,” the conductor shook my shoulder. We were in Kansas City.Fierce hunger flooded over me like a burst dam the second I stepped off the train. I hurried to the nearest grocery store and grabbed a can of SPAM, two Kaiser rolls, a quart of milk and, once I got to the register and opened my wallet, realized that all my cash was gone.Anyways, long story short, when I finally made it home to New York a few days later there was a Cuisinart DCC-3200P1 coffee machine waiting for me at the door. I guess I did go through with the order after all. I figured I’ll give it a shot even though I couldn’t remember picking it. I decided to trust my decisions even when I’m not fully conscious while making them. You got to be confident in yourself like that, it builds character. And what do you know? The coffee machine makes coffee. You can even set a timer to have it ready before you get out of bed. I call that a successful purchase. You can stop your search here.

DCC 3200 compared to older 1200 modelWe’ve replaced an older Cuisinart DCC-1200 with this DCC-3200. Since it’s a popular line, I thought others might be interested in how they compare. (In the attached comparison photos, the 1200 is on the left and the 3200 is on the right):Taste: Coffee in the 3200 is more flavorful. A new machine might be expected to be better, but I think they’ve gotten the flow and temperature of the brewing process better.Temperature: The brewed coffee is much hotter. Both units have three temperature settings for the hot plate, but the settings on the 3200 are hotter.Size and Capacity. The 3200 handles 14 cups compared to the 1200’s 12 cups. Yet as you can see from the photos, they are the same height to fit on a counter. They seem to get the extra capacity by making the 3200 a little deeper from front to back. We’ve been surprised at how useful the extra capacity is.Carafe: The new glass carafe is just like the old one, only larger. It pours nicely with or without the lid on it. The new lid works the same as the old one, popping off and on. (I read some complaints about the lid on an intervening model with a spring opening, but if so, they fixed that by going back to the 1200 style).As far as I can tell, there isn’t a version of the 3200 designed for a thermal carafe like there is for the 12-cup models. I prefer the glass carafe because it keeps the coffee hotter longer, and I can always pour the coffee into a thermal carafe if I want to.Water Filling. The bigger size also increases the size of the water fill hole. The lid on the top of the 3200 unit raises to 90 degrees straight up, where the lid on the 1200 tilted further back and out of the way. Still the 3200 is easier to fill, and I suspect that the restriction on the tilt may help preserve the integrity of the hot water tube.Sneak a Cup. Taking out the carafe to sneak a cup during brewing worked great on the 1200 with little dripping, and still does on the 3200.Basket. The basket on the 3200 is very similar to the 1200, but a slightly different shape to accommodate more grounds for 14 cups. Actually, grounds just barely fit with a 4 cup paper filter in the new basket, and sometimes go above the filter in the basket. The basket actually seems more designed for the included gold filter.Water filter. The 3200 uses the exact same carbon filters and filter holder as the 1200, but the holder seems to fit more snugly in its hole, which may help prevent clogging (see below)Beep. The 3200 allows you to turn of the coffee-ready beep if you want.Controls. Controls on the 3200 are a little easier. The 3200 uses all push buttons with no switches. Separate hour and minute settings make it a little easier to program and set the clock. There is a new “Bold” setting which does indeed seem to result in stronger coffee. There is still a setting for smaller, 1-4 cup pots, but I never use that. You can still set the hot plate to stay hot for up to 4 hours, which is important to me. There is a fairly bright blue glow from the LED display on the 3200.Cleaning. There was a sensor button on the hot plate of the 1200 that’s gone on the 3200, so the plate stays cleaner. The extra stainless steel looks good on the 3200 but probably shows smudges more and might benefit from special cleaner fluids.Coffee Grounds Overflowing and Clogging. This was the biggest problem before, and I don’t know if it’s fixed, but it seems better. On the 1200, if you put too many coffee grounds in the filter it could overflow in the brewing process, and sometimes grounds would get into the water system and clog the tube. The 1200 was designed not to be repairable, but customers tried anyway with some difficulty. After one successful repair, we eventually had to replace the 1200. So far, we have not had any overflow issues with the 3200. The larger basket (with possibly a bigger drip opening), the deeper reservoir and longer case, and the more stable, non-tilting lid may help with this, but we will see how it works over time. I do notice that they made the bottom panel easier to remove, with regular screws instead of Torx, if it ever comes to that. My one tip for users is to always use the filter holder with a filter in it, even if your water is fine, because that should help prevent grounds from getting into the heating system.In all, the 3200 is an excellent replacement for the 1200, and worth the extra money if you are choosing between the two models new.

Love this coffee maker, but for 9-10 cups, not 12Everything has gotten so expensive, I have been finding ways to reduce our expenses. With this coffee maker, we only need to use half the ground coffee our old machine used, and with the Bold option, we actually get MORE flavor than before. we also love the option of stealing a cup while the coffee is brewing, but dont expect that cup to be very hot. The coffee is hotter when the brewing cycle completes, at which time it chimes Complete.This is a very good coffee maker once you allow for its quirks. Get rid of the reusable filter. It does not hold enough ground coffee to brew anything other than a cup of water. We Use a large Bunn paper filter. It holds a lot of coffee. Leave about half an inch of space from the top to keep the brew cycle from overflowing. If you like a good strong brew, always select the Bold option and dont make more than 9-10 cups at a time. We tried a pot without Bold on, and it was just water. no flavor. The programmable feature is so easy to use, I didnt even need the instructions.. Set the clock. Then program the time you would like the coffee to be ready. It is a wonderful feature. And the best thing about this fantastic carafe is that the coffee stays fresh and hot for hours if you leave the carafe in the machine. The carafe is well built. You dont even have to turn the lid to pour a cup. And we love being able to steal a cup mid-brew. We always rinse the lid, carafe and black cone after use, to keep them clear of grounds. Important Note: We used Seattles Best in our old coffee maker, for four years. But it had no flavor in this machine. Then I remembered we always have to change coffees when we change coffee makers. The best coffee We have found so far for this machine is Gevalia, or Starbucks medium or blonde roasts. Target almost always seems to have coffee on sale. We found Starbucks on sale there and stocked up. Note: Once a week we use a clean moist cloth to wipe out the cone base. It tends to collect grounds.

Love this coffee maker! Great tasting, very hot coffeeUpdate: The first one I bought lasted about 19 months. The price has increased almost 50% since I bought that one. When it died I tried a few other models that are less expensive. After a day or a week I returned those and ultimately bought another one of these. I’ve had my second one about 11 months now. I will likely never buy anything else. Best coffee I’ve ever been able to make at home. It used to be if you bought something from Cuisinart you could expect to still have it in five years. I wish that was still the case, but if I’m being completely honest I would buy a new one of these every year if I have to.I looked at every model of thermal carafe coffee maker and read a lot of reviews before choosing this one.This is, by far, the hottest coffee I have ever gotten from a home coffee maker. For me, this is a huge selling point.The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot enough to enjoy without microwaving for at least 4 hours. Even after 6 or 7 hours the coffee is still warm and tasty. Because it does not use a warming plate to keep the coffee hot, the last drop of coffee tastes as good as the first. I will never go back to a glass caraf. I like the flavor of my coffee better than I have with any other coffee maker I’ve ever owned.The carafe is large. It holds almost 2 liters if you fill it to the 12 cup mark.The pour spout is designed specifically so It doesn’t dribble all over the place when I pour.It makes the coffee pretty quickly. Speed depends on the settings you use and, obviously, how much coffee you’re making. A full pot without the bold setting is read in about 11 or 12 minutes.It is completely programmable so you can setup the coffee to be ready at whatever time you’d like. It also has a “1-4” button for if you’re making 1 to 4 cups of coffee, and a “bold” button if you like stronger coffee. Those two buttons have a similar function. They slow the water flow over the grinds so you get the full flavor in a small pot, or a bolder flavor in any pot.A note about pouring because I’ve seen some reviewers that didn’t like how the pot pours. I don’t use the pot to fill the reservoir with water. I did that the first time and it pours way too slowly. That was aggravating. That may be why others complained. So I use a plastic pitcher for filling the reservoir. It appears that the top to the pot is designed to control the flow rate when pouring. I see this as a positive. When I’m filling my coffee cup I’m never wishing it would pour faster. I’m just glad coffee isn’t getting all over the counter, the floor, or me.I noticed some reviewers said the buttons stopped working after a few months or a year. I will say that it doesn’t take much force at all to get a response from whatever button you push. Because of those reviews I make a point of not using much force when I hit “Brew” or whatever button I’m pushing. If you poke them hard over and over, I could see them not working anymore after awhile.This coffee maker looks nice in my kitchen. If you have stainless steel appliances it will match. It takes up a very reasonable amount of space on my counter. The measurement lines are on the right side in the middle; however you can pour the water into the reservoir from either side. The reservoir is the whole back of the unit and is accepts water on either the left of the right side.The filter basket is cone shaped. It comes with a gold screen reusable filter insert. I still use a paper filter in that as well because I don’t like any sediment in my coffee. The paper cone filters cost a little more than standard filters but not so much that it is deal-breaker for me. A few extra dollars every 3 or 4 months.You have the option to use a charcoal water filter, but if you never use one it doesn’t change how to unit performs. The charcoal filter’s purpose is to filter things like the chloriine flavor out of your water. I use it.Some reviewers complained that the instructions are lacking in detail. Maybe the manufacturer has updated them since then. For the most part the setup is all pretty logical. The one thing I found difficult to figure out and not explained in the instructions was getting the charcoal filter into the filter holder. Turns out it is apparently so easy it looks hard. I included a few pics. On the stem portion of the charcoal filter holder is the word “open” with an arrow pointing downward. Right below that on the base is a little notch that sticks up. Just gently pull on the little notch and the front of the base flips open. The back left corner of the water reservoir has a slot cutout in the bottom to hold the base of the charcoal water filter setup. You just gently set it down in there. You don’t have to force it. And it stays in place. The last pic is of the cutout in the bottom of the water reservoir. Other than that setup was really easy. The filter basket only fits in one way. It’s a no-brainer to see where the water goes. The instructions tell you how to use all the buttons and features.There is a ready tone that beeps 5 times when the coffee is finished brewing. It’s pretty loud. If you don’t like that, you just press the “Tone” button near the clock face and the ready tone is off.It comes with one charcoal water filter, several cone shaped paper coffee filters, and a coffee scoop. Amazon sells the charcoal filters and the paper cone filters for very reasonable prices.I’ve been using this coffee maker since the day after Christmas 2019 and I have no complaints. I will update this review if anything changes. I’ve had a Bunn, and several models of Hamilton Beach over the course of 20 years. So far, this is the best coffee maker I’ve ever owned.

Great Coffee MachineThis machine makes amazingly delicious coffee. It’s easy to program with multiple settings, the coffee grinds smell delicious, and it produces strong, very hot, delicious coffee. I’m on my second one.Pros:-The coffee comes out hot. Much hotter than many other brands.-It makes a strong tasting brew and never tastes weak or burnt.-It does not have a bottom hot plate, and it doesn’t need one. The stainless steel carafe keeps my coffee warm until I’m home from work, 10 hours later.-Mine have lasted forever and replacement parts are affordable and easy to find.Cons:-It’s a little loud when the grinder comes on in the morning. But on the plus side your house will smell amazing and you may want to get out of bed just for the coffee.-It takes some cleaning, but don’t listen to some of the reviews stating that it’s a problem. You must clean the coffee grounds out of the shoot. I do mine everyday because it’s easy and only takes a second. It comes with a small brush that fits perfectly into the slot and you can knock them right into the coffee ground basket. No mess. Very quick and simple. If you neglect this process, it will eventually clog that shoot and you’ll get backed up grounds and weak coffee. Then it will involve more cleaning, but it’s not like you have to disassemble the machine. Just use the brush and knock down the excess grounds and you’ll be fine. Every self grinding coffee machine that I’ve read the instruction to requires this process.This machine looks nice and brews delicious, fresh coffee that stays hot all day. It’s not a $3,000 barista machine, but it’s the best one in this price range. It’s a great quality product. I would definitely recommend this product.

It’s really worth it. It’s a very good coffee maker. –UPDATED–After doing a LOT of research, I decided to order this coffee maker. Taking into account the negative reviews, my personal experience is a mix but mostly on the positive side.Some of the reviews mention the plastic smell/taste. It WAS there but only for the first few pots. After the first few, it’s totally gone. And regarding the quickness of how fast it makes coffee. It works well enough for me. It’s done before I know it. It’s got a lot of really nice features and it brews coffee hotter than any other coffee maker I have ever had. AND It’s about the only one with this capacity in this price range.I run filtered water and in combination with the in-machine charcoal filters, it makes a darn good cup. And by the way, I picked up a pack of these filters http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013H3UMEU and they work great. Plus, they are WAY less than the Cuisinart brand ones.The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is for one reason. When you go to fill the water reservoir, the lid doesn’t open far enough to use the coffee pot. You have to get real creative when you reach the end of the pour. Is that a deal killer? Not really, it’s just a minor annoyance and the primary reason I didn’t feel this coffee maker was 5 star worthy.Bottom Line: This is the best coffee maker I have ever owned. Although it’s not perfect, (and can it be for this price) I am very happy with this coffee maker and I’m sure you will be too.UPDATE: 3 1/2 months later it has stopped working correctly. The water reservoir no longer empties completely. Towards the end of the cycle, the unit will start this series of clicking and chunking sounds, like it can’t siphon the water. The maker will make its series of beeps like it’s done but there will be “4 cups” worth of water left in the reservoir. I only use soft water that has been filtered. It’s the only water that has ever gone through the maker. I make about 6 pots per week on average. I am also diligent about changing the little charcoal filters.Another thing to note. It seem to be boiling off a LOT of the water and as a result there is a large amount steam coming off the machine. This has ruined the underside of my cabinet. Do NOT get this unit and put it under a cabinet. I now pull it out from under the cabinet when I am making a pot.UPDATE #2: As it turns out, it appears that the maker just needed a good cleaning. I ran a solution of CLR and ALL kinds of lime chucks came out. After that, it ended up working properly again. Note to self: When the machine says it needs to be cleaned, clean it. It knows more than you do. It’s part of Skynet.UPDATE #3: 4 Months after purchase. The black coating on the warmer plate is flaking off. This is pretty disappointing.

Coffee tastes great!I first purchased an Oxo Coffee maker from Amazon and sent it back because of lack of flavor and the temperature of the coffee. The Cuisinart is almost half the price as the Oxo, but such a superior coffee maker. I am the only coffee drinker in our house, but on occasion we need the larger capacity that this pot offers. I find a #2 coffee filter works as well as the #4 for smaller batches. This pot allows you to set how hot the temperature should be. I kept the programmed setting of medium and find that is hot enough for me. I use two heaping scoops of coffee and fill the canister to the top of the metal band and pour it into the reservoir. I then press 1 to 4 cups of coffee and select bold and then the middle button to start. It makes a perfect cup of coffee every time.

MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN – BURNSWE HAVE HAD CUISINART COFFEE MAKERS FOR YEARS AND HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASED. WE PURCHASED THIS MODEL LAST JANUARY AND HAVE ENJOYED IT AS WELL WITH ONE MAJOR EXCEPTION. THIS MORNING I TOOK THE FULL POT OF HOT COFFEE FROM THE WARMER TO POUR A CUP AND FOR NO REASON, NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE POT, A TWO INCH PIECE OF THE GLASS POT JUST BLEW OUT AND VERY HOT COFFEE JUST GUSHED OUT ONTO MY RIGHT LEG, VERY PAINFUL AND HAVE FAIRLY BAD BURN, BLISTERS, ETC. HAD I NOT HAD ON SOME FLANNEL PANTS, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. THIS LEG IS THE LEG THAT I HAD KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY ON 3 WEEKS AGO AND HAS A SMALL INCISION ON MY THIGH AND SHIN BUT A MAJOR 12 INCH INCISION OVER MY KNEE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE COFFEE HIT MORE OF THE SIDE OF MY LEG VERSUS MY KNEE OR THAT WOULD HAVE SENT ME TO THE ER FOR SURE. PICS ATTACHED

As far as drips go, this is the one to getI can’t believe the price drop on this drip coffee maker…I only bought this just to have a different option along with my pour-over, my French press, my Moka pot and my Aeropress. Lo and behold, it makes a rich, flavorful cup of coffee. And the glass carafe is very nice. At this price point, some things to be aware of: Build quality is on the flimsy, plasticky side, the reusable metal filter’s capacity is fine if you use the included scoop as your gauge for a “cup” of coffee, but is sorely undersized if you go by the golden ratio of 15-16 grams of coffee per 250 ml of water (~16:1 water:coffee). And if you use this ratio, there’s no need to use the Bold function for brew strength.

Happy With This Coffee MakerI do recommend this pot. It has 3 temperature settings for the warmer. I use the hottest and would prefer it hotter but this is the best temperature a non-commercial pot has ever provided. Some complain about the beeps but they aren’t loud and are useful. My pot is not in my line of sight so 5 beeps tell me the brew is done and 2 beeps tell me the keep-warm time is up and it’s shutting off. If you don’t like the beeps the included manual tells how to turn them off. I like the configurable keep-warm duration; 2 hours is just too short for me. The pot has a larger capacity than most, 14 cups which is useful for company, but works just as well for smaller amounts. I much prefer a basket type filter but for all the other advantages this pot offers, I can live with cone filters.
