This is just the right size if you don’t have a lot of counter space and so far it has held up pretty well!

When I bought my espresso maker I thought this was something I didn’t need to spend money on but it helps keep my counter clean and allows the grounds to cool before having to put in the trash can.

I lived for years without one of these but my latest espresso machine had issues releasing the grinds. This is a nice small size so it doesn’t take up a great deal of counter space it gives my barista corner a very nice finish

Knock box is adequate. It looks small but to be honest, you do not want a massive knock box for a few reasons
1) I have three espresso drinkers in my house and it takes about 4-7 days to fill this up
2) At the end of the 7 days, the knockbox will start to get moldy
3) You want to preferably empty this thing out every 72 hours REGARDLESS if it is full or not
So for the people complaining that it is too small, you are not thinking long term…or in this case…3 days 😉
Pros: Great build quality, amazing. Thing is tough. I bash the espresso holder onto it pretty hard. It’s been going strong for 3 months
Cons: A bit of a pain to clean. The bottom grinds get ‘caked’ on quite well. Even with hot water and soap, you’re going to have to scrub this.
Neutral: Old grinds will inevitably get mouldy and thus you can get mold caked onto your knock box. Is this a product short coming? No not really…you should just empty the thing out every other day or 3 days…
Unless you are a restaurant/commercial place, why on Earth would you need a knockbox that could hold weeks/months worth of grinds? It will get SO MOLDY!!!!!!!

I thought I should let you know what a great knock box this is.
It is well-designed, well-made, sturdy, unobtrusive and easy to clean.
It still looks and functions like it did when it was new, which is very good.
Edit…
After reading some of the negative reviews concerning size and messiness, I wondered why I hadn’t noticed either of those things with my box.
I make triple shots, around 25 grams of ground espresso beans. The resulting pucks are on the large side, I expect. I think it’s important to knock the puck out right after pulling the shot, as the longer it stays in the portafilter, the harder it is to knock out. The configuration of the bar places it under the near edge of the portafilter…usually three light taps loosens the puck so it pivots off the bar and lands gently in the box. It stays totally in one piece, nothing flies anywhere, it’s just a big puck dropping into the box. There’s room for maybe 6 of these pucks in the box, so for me, daily emptying is all that’s called for. I can go 2 days if I don’t make drinks for anyone else. In our environment, pucks will start to mold after a day or so, anyway, so I wouldn’t want to be collecting pucks in any knock box for more than one day, anyway.
So, no, this box does not make a mess, yes, it is engineered well, and works as designed, and no, it is not too small.

This is a great little knockbox, more than big enough to accommodate daily home use. I can use it for a few days, empty it, and throw it in the dishwasher. It matches the Breville Barista Express perfectly and if I’m being honest, it’s ridiculous that anybody who spent $700 on one of their machines should also need to buy a knockbox — this should have been included with the machine. Gripes aside, I’d recommend this to anybody. Stainless steel is always a better choice than plastic with something like this that will be getting handled, bandied about, and covered in coffee grinds; the inside is heavy duty plastic but it takes a ton of abuse and still comes out of the dishwasher looking new. I considered splurging on a bigger version, but I’m honestly not sure why anybody would need one unless you make a habit of collecting a lot of grind pucks for your garden or some other reason… I find that I always want to empty mine after a few days because it seems gross to leave it full of pucks on my countertop, but it could easily accommodate a lot more buildup if you want to empty it less frequently than I do.

Matches the Breville Express Impress nicely. I like the size because it doesn’t take up much counter space but I can still fit about 6 pucks in there. The knock bar is nicely place so the puck just drops into the container. The bar is easy to remove to be able to dump the pucks and throw it in the dishwasher.

It’s just kind of perfect. Solidly built and looks nice. I’ve been using for a few months and it’s the perfect size for home use. Easy to clean as well. Big fan.

This knock box is a little bit smaller than what I’m used to, it’s actually made out of good quality materials and easy to clean, the only problem is that it does fill up pretty quickly, I have to say it might be a little bit unstable because it’s very light, so when you bang on it too hard, you got to hold it with your other hand if not your coffee grounds could fly away all over the counter, even though I would recommend if you’re looking for a small knock box, something that won’t break the bank and is of good quality.

This thing is awesome. I no longer have to carry my portafilter all the way across the kitchen to the garbage – getting coffee grounds and water all over the place. This knock box sits right next to my machine and i just take the portafilter out and dump it lightly on the bar and my puck drops right in. Then I can rinse the portafilter in the sink and leave it to dry. EASY!
I was initially concerned about smell – since you’re really leaving pucks and pucks of coffee in an open box on the counter. There is 0 smell. My girlfriend absolutely hates the smell of coffee and is very happy that it doesn’t make the whole kitchen reek of wet coffee grounds. Also the knock box itself is made of a very easy material to clean – so it may look like a bucket of brown pucks, but if you just rinse it and give it a once-over with a sponge, it looks brand new out of the box.
As for usage, you can easily fit 10 pucks in this sucker until you have to dump it in the trash. So easy and such an improvement on my morning routine of making a shot / espresso. Can’t recommend this enough. I would get the larger knock box but this one is just as good and I don’t have a ton of counter space. It’s smaller than it seems in the pictures. It’s shorter than a normal drinking glass and not as wide as a cereal bowl. It tucks under the espresso machine header easily for storage.
