Fool proofs the pour-over experience. The water tank is the secret..Most pour-over baskets require some attention. Pour slowly, wait for the water to filter, pour some more to capture the grounds that float up around the side of the filter, wait some more, try not to pour too much so you don’t get an overflow. Annoying. This solves that problem. Set the filter in the basket, add coffee, put the basket on a cup or mug. Put the tank on the basket, pour and walk away. A few minutes later it’s ready. It’s nearly impossible to add too much water to the tank given that it has volume markings on the tank. No need to pre-measure the amount of water being added. The water tank has multiple holes in a wide pattern This may be the most important design feature. Multiple holes result in a measured and wide drip of water into the basket. This greatly reduces the degree to which the coffee grounds float up around the sides of the filter. Coffee grounds will be more effectively soaked. If I had to find a couple things I didn’t like, the underside of the basket is a bit difficult to clean given the ribs. This is barely worth mentioning. Regardless, a smoother surface would be easier to clean. Perhaps future revs of this product will address that. Also and true of all pour over baskets is that you have to be careful to set it on a mug or container so it doesn’t slip off. This has a shallow lip around the underside which will help prevent that from happening. Best to make sure that the mug or container is entirely contained within the surrounding lip. As with any pour over basket, if it falls while in use and if you happen to be standing closely, there’s a risk of being scalded. The water tank adds some top heaviness and sits on the basket without being locked in place. I’d prefer a more angular connection point between tank and basket which would virtually eliminate the possibility of slippage. That said, I’ve never had a spill and have little concern about this happening. Regardless, end-users will have to be mindful about this.I don’t know of any other pour-over designs that include a water tank so on that basis alone, I consider this to be an indisputable 5 star product. Smart design, dishwasher safe and long lasting. I’ve used it hundreds of times, no issues. Great product, highly recommended.

Oxo, where have you been all my life?About three years ago I discovered that I was sensitive to caffeine (insomnia) even though I’m not a heavy coffee drinker. That started me on a search for a decaf I would actually like, which happily ended in the discovery of French Market decaf and chicory out of New Orleans (my pick for the “It doesn’t take like decaf decaf.” ;-). However, since I’m the only one who drinks decaf in my household, I didn’t want to hassle cleaning up a 12-cup drip coffee maker after making only 4 five-ounce cups.Next, I tried a French press and the coffee was admittedly great. But I got tired of cleaning coffee grains out of the permanent filter and didn’t want them going into my sink into my septic system, either. Finally, I tried a Melitta single-serve pour-over that I had had stashed at the back of my cupboard for years but had never bothered to use. That did the trick: Incredibly easy to clean up and great-tasting coffee. All was good for about two years. But gradually I tired of standing around pouring water into my single serve Melitta. Sometimes the #2 filter would stop up and the water would just sit there for minutes on end before it drained into the cup. And while I like a bold cup of coffee, increasingly I would step away and come back to partially brewed nearly-cold coffee. I didn’t want a single-serve drip coffeemaker sitting out on my counter alongside the 12-cup brewer — so I briefly considered buying a combo unit. (I almost sprung for a Ninja specialty brewer with its rave reviews — but to me the design is unattractive and I don’t like that they don’t offer any other color but black, which doesn’t match my appliances.)Amazon has some scary-smart algorithms because it inexplicably this Oxo brewer came up on a search result. A light bulb went off: THERE is the solution! The Oxo pour-over brewer, thanks to the thoughtful inclusion of a lid, keeps in the heat 100x better than the Melitta pour-over — and, thanks to the 12-ounce capacity reservoir, it only takes a single pour-over to brew coffee. No mess, no cords, no tedious cleaning — just one and done!

Game changer in the pour over worldI grew up with Melitta #4 cones in the lightweight plastic pour over. Before it was a bougie thing everywhere. I’ve been doing cold brew for several years and recently decided to switch back to pour over. I remembered why I quit. Takes forever, if the grind isn’t just so, it clogs, and heat dissipates so fast I have to micronuke it anyway. What was the point? Then I saw this little guy and decided to try one last time. Whoever designed this deserves an award. No more taking the water off the boil to measure, then pour in the filter, no more taking forever, no more reheating. Just a perfect cup of coffee every single time.

Single cup solutionAs I hone my method of making morning coffee, it has led me to this OXO brew solution. Perfect for a single cup of coffee. It is small, easy to clean and you can see the amount of water you are pouring in by the ounce markings on the water section. It fits neatly on any type of cup. It even has a lid to keep the water hot while it drips through. But the best part is the holes it drips through, spreading out the water, rather than just pouring boiling water from the kettle. If you like fresh, hot coffee like I do, I give this coffee maker thumbs up.

Fantastic coffee makerAnd even more so when I found and purchased a permanent gold filter for this pour over maker. At first I was using the filters papers supplied so I bought another batch of papers. In the meantime I was “missing” some of the “oiliness” of coffee as I had known and loved it for over 60 years. My favourite brew was simply coffee grounds in the jug, a small pinch of salt*, add water just off the boil, stir, wait for it to brew, then pass it through a sieve-like “coffee strainer” and enjoying quite a bit of the “sludge” in the bottom of the cup. Perhaps “cowboy coffee” may have been a fair description? Then I discovered that there was a permanent gold filter available for the Oxo pour over and immediately bought one. I now have the very best of both worlds. Easy to brew, easy to clean up, and most importantly, the *full* coffee experience that I have enjoyed and loved over a lifetime.I don’t think this device can be beaten for ease and simplicity, *and* providing coffee the way that I like it.* re “small pinch of salt” – One day, many years ago, when working offshore in the oil patch I volunteered to make the coffee for the crew on break and went through the usual rituals. I was pulled up by an old Dutchman who said, “Hey, you forgot the salt!””Salt?” I asked, “What salt?””You should always put a pinch of salt in your coffee,” he told me.A couple of other Dutch guys in the crew nodded their approval. I thought they were taking the P but I added some salt anyway. Since I tasted that coffee that day I have *always* added a pinxch of salt to my brew. Only when someone insists on “where did you get this beautiful coffee?” do I tell them my secret.Give it a try.

Excellent coffeeI love this coffee maker. I am the only coffee drinker in the house & love my real coffee in the morning. I did have a small cafetière, but it was messy & difficult to clean. I have also tried with just a filter cone over a mug – but judging how much water to pour in could be tricky…This has made life so much easier and means that I get a consistent mug of coffee every morning. I also find that I need less coffee than I did in my Bodum single cup/filter setup. Having the water tank to measure the water is excellent – and the way the water slowly drips through it ensures a good brew. I usually pre-warm my mug to ensure my coffee keeps hot for longer. It is very easy to clean – dispose of the filter and grounds in the composting bin then wash everything up.

A lovely way to enjoy coffeeI purchased this for work so I no longer have to use the horrible and cheap instant they have there. I have to say I’m really pleased with this, it avoids all the faff of a cafetière and makes really nice filter coffee. Obviously the taste will depend on the actual coffee used, and I’m looking forward to exploring in this regard.I bought a reusable filter: Titanium Coated Steel Reusable Cone Coffee Filter With Elegant Flower Of Life Patern (No.2) – which is also a great product. It’s slightly too big for the Oxo but still makes a great cup of coffee – I therefore haven’t used the included paper filters, so can’t comment on them.It may sound a bit cheapskate, but I actually reuse the coffee by leaving it in the filter and pouring more hot water into the Oxo, and I’ve managed to get three cups out of it (although the 3rd was a bit of a stretch). Otherwise, just using the coffee grounds once is a bit extravagant in my mind – like I say, maybe I’m a cheapskate!A really lovely cup of coffee from a really lovely contraption.

Like magic; my new favorite coffee maker!Makes a really fantastic cup of coffee with so much ease. Not a lot of cleanup which is my problem with my french press, which I have abandoned completely in favor of this little thing. Nice measurements lines make it easy to see how much you’re getting. I brew directly into my travel mug, toss out the grounds, just rinse the parts and set to dry. So delicious and so easy!
