Recommend manufacturer: little wider grip and longer handle would be nice.

The blade itself is quite impressive. I’ve only used this twice and I’m amazed in how sharp it is. However, the craftsmanship on the handle is the problem. The metal isn’t flushed with the wooden handle and you can feel this when holding and cutting veggies. The metal sits little higher all around and it’s annoying to the grip. Also noticeable is the discoloration of the wooden handle after 2 uses. Good blade but falls short at the handle.

It has a big blade enough to chop big veggies, cabbage, radish, and others. Overall built quality is not bad but some finishes are not clean especially at the handle part with glue. However, it did not affect its functionality. Except craftsmanship, it is a good knife for easy using.

This is a great buy. I have recently been getting into cooking again and have found regular knives to be annoying with the sharpening. I found people using Chinese chefs knives for pretty much everything they need to do for cooking. It chops, slices, cubes, it does it all. Additionally, it has a large surface area so moving my food around is waaaaay easier than the other knife I used to use. My unit came VERY sharp. My goodness I get very excited to use this knife which is not something I can say for my old American knives. I now want to collect these types. Either way, it is a great knife to have in every kitchen. It will take some time to get used to especially if you are used to regular knives that are not that big.

I prefer a Chinese cleaver knife to a chef’s knife for vegetables. I have been pleased with my Dahlstrom phantom that weights in at 7.3 oz. However, the 2 3/8″ blade doesn’t work that well as a bench scraper to move the chopped vegetables. I was looking for wider blade. The 4 1/4 ” blade fills the bill for that, but at the cost of weight– this one is 16.2 oz; so it it really more like a cleaver. It works fine, but for me it is on the heavy side for vegetables. I suspect that the ideal weight for a dedicated vegetable cleaver is more like 10 oz.
After using a Chinese cleaver knife for a while, I have decided that the advantage of having a combo knife and bench scraper doesn’t outweigh the disadvantage of the really wide blade for convenient and comfortable cutting of vegetables. I now prefer a narrower Nakiri type blade for cutting and a separate bench scraper to picking up the veg.

Quite sharp. Be careful. from handling perspective, I believe they could have done better job in weight balancing.
Also, this is good for certain chopping and slicing. But does not replace your knife.
