KYOKU Chef Utility Knife – 6″ – Shogun Series – Japanese VG10 Steel Core Forged Damascus Blade – with Sheath & Case
$50
- VG-10 JAPANESE SUPER STEEL – Manufactured with ultra-sharp VG-10 Japanese Damascus steel cutting core at HRC 58-60 hardness, this 6 in. crafted culinary chef comes with unrivaled performance and incredible edge retention; cobalt added VG-10 steel outperforms AUS-10 steel in durability and is easier to sharpen as cobalt enhance the other alloying elements.
- ERGONOMIC & WELL-BALANCED – The 6″ utility knife is our most versatile knife. If you only get one knife, this should be it. The gorgeous, hammer-beaten herringbone pattern on the base of the tang not only shows off the stunning craftsmanship but also prevents food from sticking to the blade, making it practical for everyday use.
- ULTIMATELY DURABLE HANDLE – The meticulously constructed G10 handle has gone through special treatment, making it extremely impervious to heat, moisture, cold with military grade strength and life-long sturdiness.
- SUPERIOR SHARPNESS – Ruthlessly sharp scalpel-like edge is handcrafted by seasoned artisans to a mirror polish at 8-12° double side using the traditional 3-step Honbazuke method; Nitrogen cooled for ultimate hardness, flexibility and corrosion resistance performance.
- LIFETIME WARRANTY – No premium knife is complete without a lifetime warranty; our masterpiece knife is fully covered for life, free exchange or return for life if the item is defective.

Very sharp quality knife. Nicely packaged and would definitely give as a gift.

Packaging was nice and product arrived in good quality. The sheath fits and the knife is good quality. Looking forward to seeing how this holds up over time!

So. I sliced an onion for a sandwich so far with this knife. It yielded a thin slice, with an easy cut. It is solid in the hand, and satisfyingly compact and controllable. I bought this knife because I feel like 8″ chef knives are a bit too long.
Comes with a storage box with fitting pads and a sheath which covers the blade, and an opportunity to contact customer service for a 10% discount on your next knife.
The through tang and mosaic pins are a nice touch. Now as far folks saying it is not real Damascus… Well, the two sides of the knife differ in the patterning, and the knife is different from the model pictures. So if the Damascus is fake, they are creating unique patterns for each knife. I think the claims of fake Damascus are silly, and why anyone would even critique a $50 like it was a $200 one is absurd.
I think you’ll like this knife very much. I look forward to slicing tomatoes thinly so soon.

I like it.

Knife is extremely well balanced and incredibly sharp, cuts through almost any vegetable like butter (even carrots and parsnips!), also sharp enough to trim meat. The durability and Damascus design of the blade is amazing and can take some abuse, the handle is comfortable and we’ll fitted to the hand and feels great. I use this knife every day at my restaurant for prep and even on the line cooking at times, and I will definitely consider buying another Kyoku knife in the near future!

Great knife. My son works in a restaurant and uses it there. Works great.

It is a quality knife but not Damascus and not worth $50. It does hold an edge well but needed sharpening when it was received. Do not purchase if you are looking for genuine multi-layer damascus.

I have every one of the Daimyo Series knives. They are great knives for the money. If I were purchasing again, or if you are wanting to build a set, start with the Utility, then Kiritsuke, then Serrated. then maybe the Santoku, and stretching to the Carver. The steak knives are also great if you need those. The rest should be purely purpose based as this basic set can do almost everything.
Pros:
– Well balanced
– Hefty in the hand. I prefer front heavier knives, and these are that
– Great feel and very ‘holdable’. Grip fit is excellent. I find myself resting my index finger on top of the handle when using for some reason
– Crazy sharp out of the box
– Look great brand new. Very ‘show-able’
– Full tang
– Handles are excellent and very nice looking. The fancy rivets are a nice touch.
– Still my favorites
Cons:
– I find that they sharpen very easily. Not so bad but a high quality VG10 steel should be difficult to sharpen in my experience.
– After a year, the ‘Damascus Hammering’ marks are largely gone from my Kiritsuke and Utility. Clearly this was etched on and not really hammering marks. A year of cleaning and sharpening has left these looking like regular non-Damascus knives
– There is no block that holds any real number of these knives if you want them handy or on display. I had to modify a Zwilling Pro 16 slot block to hold them all perfectly. I am reluctant to throw sharp knives into a drawer, and am not patient enough to keep putting the sleeves back on.
All in all I love these knives. I see they have changed some of the verbiage to now represent these as “beautifully laminated’ Damascus. That’s a change from when I bought them when they were represented as ‘Damascus Steel’. That’s why I take away a star. Regardless, I do also have a set of Wusthof knives that I rarely ever get out anymore. These are that good. Feel safe that you are still getting great knives at a reasonable cost, just don’t really expect Damascus steel hammered in Japan with real hammering marks that will hold up over time. The steel is on the harder side so they hold up very well. Oh and watch for the sale; some of the sales on these are amazing.
