Pretty Good, But Not GreatI’ve only used the grinder and sausage stuffer once. It worked OK, but the feed tray kept sliding up and off as I was using the pusher to push meat into the grinder. This grinder is a good value for the price, but it’s not as sturdy as I imagined it would be.

Perfect home grinder. This think is built like a tank and seems to run like one too. Everything feels far more heavy duty than I was expecting but exactly what I was hoping for. It’s a little loud but I don’t plan on using it after bedtime either. I didn’t have the cam lock completely cinched down so during a heavy load the lock disengaged which allowed the auger to flip the tray and some meat out in the floor under some serious force, however this was apparently my fault so I cannot ding Weston for that. It made some crazy good burgers and I feel like I’m going to love this addition to our kitchen.

Can’t get additional plates with different hole sizes/configurationsEven though I gave 5 stars for each of the first three aspects mentioned, I gave only a three for the overall rating. This grinder is easy to assemble, easy to use, and easy to clean. It’s a bit loud, but works well on chicken bones. My deep disappointment is that the three plates that come with the unit are the only ones Weston makes for it. The holes in these plates turn the meat into mush, even the largest. I’ve been searching, since shortly after I got this three years ago, to find plates that fit made by another manufacturer but haven’t yet. Sorry to say I might have to sell or junk this one and get another that I can get more plates for. I’m extremely disappointed in having bought a needed machine that I can’t use. And this wasn’t realized until after the allowed return period.

Nice machine but the knife seems not sharp enoughThis machine is simple and easy to use. It seems powerful. But when I found the ligaments/tendons of pork shoulder stuck in between the cutting knife and metal disc that were difficult to be cleaned.

Elk BurgersI ground about 50 pounds of elk meat with this no problem. Just make sure you seat the grinding plate correctly or else it will clog. The motor got a little warm, but didn’t seem to affect the functionality.

Finally a great grinder at a great price!!!This thing worked great for hunting season this year. We ground 4 deer back to back, almost non stop and it never missed a beat. Even half frozen meat was no problem for this thing. i wish I had bought ones years ago instead of going thru different crappy models. If you are looking for a good meat grinder for yearly deer camps or year round hunting, this is it. Get it now and stop looking. It works Great!!!

concerned about locking mechanismI am concerned. I sent one back because the licking mechanism to hold the grinder goose neck onto the motor housing would slip into unlock position while in use. Weston sent me a new grinder but it seems to have the same problem. When I use it I keep my hand on the locking lever to make sure it s doesn’t slip into unlock. If I let go of the lock lever while the motor is running, it seems to start to vibrate over toward unlock. When the old one slipped into unlock while running it was quite violent as the motor was still running and the goose neck was slamming around. Yes, I read the instructions over and over. I have had a smaller Weston brand grinder for many many years and am familiar with such technology.

Small pieces of metal in the meatThe assembly was easy. the motor got too hot during the process so I had to let it rest for a bit. I was grinding the lamb meat which didn’t have any bone. It was all meat and fat. I wanted to grind it twice. First time seemed fine, but then when I put the meat back for the second round, I noticed the blackish pieces of meat on the dish. At first I thought that it might be the meat getting dark, but nope. When I opened it up, I saw the black metals around the grinding plate, front ring, and also grinder head (look at the pictures). I have no idea where they have been scratched from.I also read in the reviews that it makes paste instead of ground meat. I think when you put so much fat, it blocks the plate and it makes it more like paste, but when you put proper meat, it will be a nice grinder (if it doesn’t have metal in it).
