Vexing Design Flaw…0.5mm Really?I bought one to test, and was vexed until I found a vintage ring that had an opening that was just large enough to make up for the design flaw that we all complain about. Is this a patent thing? Does Ball® prohibit Jarware from making a product that fits inside its rings? Did they not test it with the most commonly available product, or what? This could not have been a surprise. Why have they not asked the factory in Shanghai to correct this design flaw? (This is easy, really.) It’s a test, right? We get our hopes up that MAYBE THIS RING will be the one that fits. Nope. I love the ONE I can use. The second order sits on the shelf mocking my naïve hope that I’d be able to get these to work, and enjoy the benefits that we have from the first one. Nope. I really want to recommend this, but I also want to have something that works, right out of the box, as advertised.Another issue that might be weather-related (as well as being an easy design fix) is that the lid won’t stay closed. Wouldn’t it be better for the error to be on the too-good side? Let the grip rely on the notch and groove instead of friction (oil beats friction, not a surprise). I’ll be moving these good-looking-but-unusable artifacts to the Bin of Unfulfilled Promise.

Hard to get installedThe design and concept of this item is great, but the practical functionality is lacking. Both myself and my husband tried to get this snapped into a mason jar ring to use, but we just couldn’t manage it. We tried the recommendations of heating the ring up under hot running water. I even went so far as to boil a cup of water, pull off the heat, and drop the ring it in for a couple of minutes. Still unable to get it properly seated in the ring. We tried so much so that the loop securing the spout cap snapped right off. I’m giving 1 extra star since i like the way it looks, or this would be 1 star for inability to use.Obviously some people got it working, but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Leaks like crazy!I think the idea of this is adorable and I was so excited to use it for a party but the darn thing leaks terribly and caused a mess. Darn!

Very handyThis works very well. I buy the large tins of oil to cook with and had been looking for something smaller to be easier to handle. I like the look of it on a mason jar.

Fits Jar Okay but Top of Pour-spout Does Not CloseAfter a bit of a struggle, this fit in the jar with a nice click. It does not leak out of the side of the lid. The top of the pour-spout does not stay in, though, so if the jar ever gets knocked over, it is an instant spill. The side of the jar does get a little greasy, but what oil thingy does not? It is pretty easy to use and better than the aged Tupperware pour-spout we were using before.

Pours well, but stopper pop out when oilyPours well, but stopper pop out when oily. The tention of the hinge is enough to pop the lid. Once olive coats it, there isn’t enough interference in the gut to hold it in.

While it Was in One Piece it was GreatThe Good Stuff: This is a great little top. Or it should be.It sealed tightly. It poured well without too much of a drip tendency (good for oily stuff). I really liked everything about it. It does have a tiny pin-sized air hole to facilitate flowing, and if you shake the jar its contents are going to dribble out.But.The slender attachment between the spout and the lid simply gave up/wore out and broke.

Jarware CruetWhat a good idea for a lid converting a mason jar to a cruet. It took me awhile to find a proper size jar to adopt the Jarware lid. The opening in the Jarware lid was larger than expected for olive oil. But it’s a good kitchen ware to use.

Total failPoor design of a great idea. No matter what I tried, followed review suggestions, I couldn’t get ANY mason jar rim to screw on tightly, always leaking. Went in the garbage. Still need one like this that works!

cruet lid is not for food storageThe cruet lid works very well as far as dispensing oil, vinegar, salad dressing. I use it with the plastic Masontops jar bands for a rust-proof solution. The only problem is that there is a second small hole in the top of the cruet lid (which enables air flow so liquid will dispense properly) which prevents me from using this for storage of perishables (e.g. my salad dressings). I’m using one of The Doctors Brushpicks to plug up this hole during storage, which I think is good enough to store salad dressings for a week or two, which is all I need. But feel that the description should note that there is a hole. Even better, a plug for this hole should be included.
