Doesn’t Grip the Countertop Too Well, but Pasta-ifies Dough Well! The little tightening clamp for the pasta maker is kinda wobbly and twisty, and you have to REALLY tighten it, which made me scared for my counters, but the actual maker is pretty well made. You get your money’s worth, it’s certainly not the most fantastic product ever, but it gets the job done for pretty cheap. I’d recommend it for anyone looking to use a pasta maker like twice a year.

Much need space for hanging pasta with little table space taken upLove how little space is taken up on the counter as the pasta dries. Plenty of room on the rods for drying an entire recipe of pasta noodles. Stores compact and slides back into the box easily. Clean up is a breeze.

It’s all about that dough, ’bout that dough…I decided on a whim to allow Santa to give me an early Christmas present, since fresh pasta is so delicious. The unit is very attractive and feels hefty and well-made. It attaches easily and firmly to the counter with the included c-clamp.To save time and get some of that delicious homemade pasta as quickly as possible, I looked up a pasta recipe for my Cuisinart. I tossed everything together, processed it, then let the dough rest for a bit as directed.Something was just not right. The dough stuck to the rollers, first the big flat one, then the ones that turn your big sheet of pasta dough into spaghetti. Not only did it not go through the rollers smoothly, but it got stuck. What. A. Mess.I finally surrendered, admitted defeat and tossed the gooey mess in the garbage. I cleaned the machine as best I could, trying to avoid The Wife’s judgmental gaze. Could I FOR ONCE read the directions? To add insult to injury, The Wife enrolled me in a pasta making class at one of our local cooking stores. After three very enjoyable hours under the tutelage of a highly experienced, genuine Italian chef named Manny, I had a delicious from-scratch Italian dinner with my fifteen classmates. I also learned how important it is to get the dough right. While I’m sure a food processor ultimately can do an acceptable job of making pasta dough, there is just no substitute for getting your hands in it and working it to develop all that yummy gluten. When the dough has been made and properly worked, it slides right through the machine with no problem at all. Just a light dusting of flour will keep it from sticking.Making the dough by hand–and it’s just flour, eggs, salt and a little oil–really doesn’t take any longer than using the food processor–and the cleanup is MUCH easier! I’d say the total time to make the dough by hand is about equal to the time to get out the food processor, set it up, process, then clean it up and put it away.To be honest, I haven’t yet put my new-found pasta skills to the test with this machine; but the quality of construction is at least as good as the pro model I used in the class–and now that I know how to make the dough, I have every confidence that my end result will be as good as what we got in the class. With that in mind, I’m giving this five anticipatory stars. It’s well made, looks impressive and will certainly crank out a whole lotta pasta.I must do this…I can’t let The Wife’s disapproval and scorn stand.

Fine for craft work, but too lightweight for most pasta tasksI got this not to make pasta but for craft work (flattening wires). It works fine for that, and the build quality is good enough that it will have a decent service life for crafts. However, for actual pasta making, this has a number of significant shortfalls. It’s very lightweight construction, and will not stand up to much use. The roller tolerances are not great — again, fine for craft work, but not for pasta. The gearing is especially janky in terms of build quality. It gets 5 stars for craft work, but one star for pasta work. Overall rating of 3 stars. It might be OK if your pasta making is limited to a couple of times a year, but if pasta making is something you’ll be doing weekly or monthly, this will be a disappointment. Machines such as the Atlas (or others that are made in Italy) are more expensive, but are a joy to use. You can spend your time enjoyably making pasta rather than fighting with the machine.

Broken plasticI started to use this pasta machine for polymer clay conditioning. After using this machine last couple of months, some of the plastic inside the machine started to break off while cleaning. Due to that reason, the clay comes out with too many scrapes and bumps.

PERFECT for Polymer Clay!I have spent thousands of dollars on art and jewelry making supplies over the years, and this little pasta machine has to be the best thing I have ever purchased- I just wish I’d gotten one sooner. I was able to use it literally within minutes of un-boxing. It has saved me so much time, and eliminated all the frustration that came with attempting to roll the perfect slab of polymer clay manually. Goodbye hideous clay covered roller and thickness guides! My setup used to take FOREVER. Now, I just take a chunk of clay, condition it in my hands for a few seconds, and roll it through the machine. I never have air bubbles, and can now roll slabs of 7 perfectly even thicknesses. It’s very easy to clean, just run a slightly damp paper towel through (the manufacturer does not recommend using a lot of water on this product, so when I say slightly damp, I mean it!), followed by a dry one, and voila! This pasta machine has opened up so many doors for me. I bought it to make charms and bead rolling sheets for jewelry, but have started exploring techniques that were previous off limits. You can roll clay with gold/silver/whatever foil on top through this machine to get a gorgeous crackle effect, create clay gradients, or use it to roll the layers for a perfect Mokume Gane effect (I have not tried this yet, but I have seen some amazing results on Youtube. Definitely going to be my next project!)
