PEUGEOT: France, since 1810. Peugeot mills are renowned by chefs and gourmet cooks the word over for the consistent grind results they produce, their incredible resilience and proven reliability. Compromise is not a word that fits into the Peugeot vocabulary. For each spice, there is one – and only one – Peugeot grinding mechanism: peppercorns; coarse dry salt; chilies; herbs and spices; wet salts; and nutmeg. Add the coffee mechanism, which started it all and there are seven unique Peugeot mechanisms. Each is designed to derive the most flavor and greatest aroma from its complementary spice. Aesthetically pleasing, Peugeot mills deliver the height of quality, durability, reliability and innovation; making these mills the ones to which all others are compared. The high quality beech wood used in Peugeot mills is grown, harvested, dried, shaped and finished in France. For Paris u’Select mills, the grind is adjusted by turning the ring at the bottom of the mill. Turning the ring in one direction makes a finer grind; turning in the other makes it coarser. Once the grind size is set, it will stay in place until the user changes it. This mill is equipped with Peugeot’s legendary pepper grinding mechanism. Made of case-hardened steel, it has received additional treatment against wear and corrosion. Its double-row of helix-shaped claws grab and crack each peppercorn, before drawing it down to the teeth for the perfect grind.

This is a good salt grinderLooks just as describe. You can change the size of salt when it comes out. I gave it 4 stars because I got a pepper one for a quarter of the price and I like a little better. The only thing I don’t like is when you put the salt to grind fine not alone comes out. With my pepper grinder when I put it on fine the same amount comes out if I had it on a higher setting.

Works fineThis is a great grinder. You have to remember that it is painted wood. If you plan on dropping it or getting wet, you should get the stainless steel version. Also you need to use the size of salt that is recommended for this grinder. One thing to note, if I dial the grind size smaller. I will make sure there are no grains between the burrs . I just turn the grinder upside down and give it a spin to clear it out. I could see how tightening the burrs while filled could create a problem. I think Peugeot uses a softer steel on these for corrosion resistance. It looks great and it’s made in France.

I had to replace the original Peugeot salt mill I purchased because there was a huge crack. Amazon replaced it with no problem!

Really loved this for a few days but the selector knob stopped turningThis pepper mill looks great and I love the U-select mechanism that changes the grind consistency however the selector knob froze after a few uses. Had to return this but purchased another direct from the manufacturer. It works much better. Also they stand behind the purchase but not if bought on Amazon. Since it’s about the same price I recommend going direct to the manufacturer.

Great feel, works perfectly, looks very nice.I wanted some manual salt and pepper shakers for when our battery operated ones weren’t working. These have now become my go to while cooking. I love the look and feel and it is easy to adjust the grind size. Great product.

OVERPRICED, and grind mechanism liable to rustI’ve always wanted Peugeot grinders because they are the original giant restaurant mills, but I don’t want one so bad that I’d pay full price. When I saw this salt mill used for about $20, I jumped at the opportunity. There’s a little chip in the lacquer, but that was to be expected. But even if were in perfect condition, I would consider $20 the maximum anyone should pay for the quality. There is no heft to it, and it feels plasticky and cheap, not luxurious.I give it two stars only because I assume the grinding mechanism is decent (only an assumption!). It is steel however, not ceramic as salt mills should be due to to salt being corrosive, and the instructions call for only dry rock salt. That’s a bummer, because I like Celtic grey salt, which is wet.IMO, this company is trading on its brand, not its quality, at least with this model. If you want Peugeot, hold it in your hands before you commit. You may be disappointed like I was… even at over half off retail price!

Base ring coating cracks after one monthI was expecting this item to last a lifetime. I can’t say the mechanism isn’t good, as it does mill well even at the finest setting. But I was quite disappointend noticing the coating at the bottom ring started cracking after only a month. I don’t think this can be attributed to misuse as it lived on the kitchen shelf, always dry and away from heat sources.I also bought a laquered black pepper mill. It was ok when I noticed this one was damaged, but after a week it showed the same issue. Again, not what I expected from an expensive product.I’ll try to post pictures.

They grind beautifully and are very satisfying to handlePeugeot is the only brand of salt and pepper mills that I can be bothered with. They grind beautifully and are very satisfying to handle. They are well worth the extra expenditure and look very classy in your kitchen or on your table.
