Replaced a prior nut chopper that had a broken blade.Chopper works as described. I like the measurements provided on the side of the base, so I can tell when I have the amount suggested for a recipe. Even though the bottom doesn’t come off easily it is somewhat awkward to remove when moving the chopped nuts to another container. I preferred my prior chopper that had a glass bottom that was easy to unscrew from the top and pour.

My new chop chopI have only used it once but it did great chopping my pecans & walnuts & easy to clean. I havent had one in a long long time. The one u had was my mother’s. She’s been gone for 40 years & the glass finally broke oh probky 6 or 7 yrs ago & I threw it away. She used it my sister used & then I used it.

Difficult with hard nuts, eg, almondsThis is one of the few nut choppers on Amazon listed for use with almonds, probably because of their hardness. Filling the hopper with almonds made it impossible to turn the crank. It was necessary to remove all but a few. Grinding almonds in small batches was easier but took longer. A longer crank arm would have made the job easier but the grinder might not have been able to withstand the resulting higher forces.

Does the jobI debated a long time before buying this. My primary need is for chopping raw almonds. I’ve been doing that with a chef’s night and wooden cutting board. I’m reasonably good at it, and am able to pretty much contain the almonds so that it’s rare for one to go flying. However it’s still a hassle.I ended up debating between either buying this unit or a mezsalune knife and bowl. The advantage of the mezzaluna is that I could also have used it for cutting salad ingredients. However a good mezzaluna knife and bowl would have cost a lot more than this chopper, so I finally decided to try it.I wasn’t sure it would work out well, but I’ve owned it over two months and have been using it once or twice a week on almonds, and so far I fairly satisfied. It’s not perfect, but it seems to do the job. As other reviewers have noted, it’s tough to turn when it’s full of almonds. I’ve found the best way to deal with that is that when the handle stops turning, I simply reverse direction. In theory, turning the handle counter-clockwise will produce more coarsely chopped nuts than turning the handle clockwise, but I’ve found the difference to be so slight that it’s negligible. I could see so little difference that I finally did a test to see whether there really was a difference. I filled the nut chopper with almonds twice. The first time, I rotated the handle clockwise to get a fine chop and dumped the chopped nuts into a container.I then did the same test but rotating the handle counter clockwise to get a course chop. I poured the chopped nuts into a container that was identical to the first container except that I’d marked the bottom to identify it as the course chop. With my eyes closed, I moved the two containers around so I couldn’t tell which one contained the coarsely chopped nuts. When I compared then, the nuts in both containers were chopped almost identically. The coarsely chopped nuts were slightly larger, but it was so close that it really doesn’t matter much, at least for my purposes, which is adding them to my morning oatmeal. The slight difference might be more important for people with different needs or preferences. As for the chopper itself, the quality seems decent. I have no idea how long the plastic will last or how long the metal grinders will remain sharp enough to do the job. For now, however, it’s exactly what I needed.

Its uneven, we bought for experiment, failed but keeping it!Few gripe about it – its not easy to clean, it does not cut nuts evenly (almond, walnut are tried). It is hard to rotate either direction (coarse or fine) and more importantly – it does it gets stuck is so inconvenient way that may be harder to remove without hurting (or damaging product). We are still keeping it – why? It just is so cute! Yes – keeping this as an expensive toy that we use occasionally now despite of having a few gripes about the product.Having said that – product does seem sturdy!

Works just as describedWas surprised at the nice quality. Bottom container holds a whole cup of nuts. Easy to clean up and no mess on the cutting board!

OK, But tough for AlmondsThe chopper seems well made, but it’s not really good to use on almonds. It’s very hard to turn in that case, and I think the stress on the handle would eventually cause it to break. We’ve tried to use it on only a few almonds at a time, and that works a little better.

Does the job, mostlyThis simple nut chopper does the job, for the most part. It’s not terribly sturdy, but seems satisfactory for the task. The nut pieces usually get suck between the tines, and some pulverized nut meat gets stuck at the throat, so there is some effort needed to clean it after use. The “coarse” grind is fairly fine–too fine for pecans in granola. (you get fine by turning the handle one direction and coarse turning the opposite way) It struggles with the harder almonds, in either direction.
