Handy deviceI purchased a pampered chef food chopper over 25 years ago, it is so sturdy it is still working. The blades have gotten a little dull though as we use it often. So I have ordered another with sharper blades and figure it will last another 25 years. Well worth the money. UPDATE: Not worth the money for a new one. We went back to the older one since it still works as this new one fell apart on the first use.

1st one lasted 9 years- I love it!I bought this Pampered Chef food chopper to replace one that I had for almost 9 years. The blade never did wear down on my old one (never dulled, bent, or rusted). It worked great until the clear plastic cup cracked. I truly think it would’ve lasted longer if I hadn’t put that clear plastic piece in the dishwasher all those years. The rest of it (handle, blade, rubber bottom, guard) all did great in the dishwasher. It looks like it would b a nightmare to wash when u first look at it, but it really isn’t. Rinse it when you’re done cutting & put in dishwasher with “flaps” spread so water/detergent can get in there. I put it on drying rack for a bit afterward even though my dishwasher has a dry cycle. There’s some places under the flaps that could hold a little water if u don’t tip water out then dry a bit b4 putting away. The clear cup gets a little “crackly” looking over time if washed in dishwasher, but does fine hand washed. If I hadn’t been so lazy & washed that one part by hand, who knows how long this thing would’ve lasted. There are cheaper versions out there but this one worked so well, that I wasn’t even going to try one. This cuts nice pieces without a purée effect. If u want pico de galo, this is the tool to use. Toss in onion, cilantro, onion, etc, & push down on handle few times to rotate the blades, & you’re done. Each time the handle is pushed, the zigzag blades turn a little bit so that the blades don’t just keep cutting in the same places. The effect leaves nice diced pieces. The more u push the handle, the more the blades cut & rotate, & the finer pieces you will get.The rubber bottom that the blades cut against is super strong. It doesn’t get cut marks at all from the blades & is removable. Sometimes if I cut a lot of tomatoes, it may get a hint of orange stain. In this case I wipe it with a little bleach then soap/water. But it is very stain resistant. It doesn’t hold odors. The blades are very sharp. I have cut fine herbs (like cilantro or parsley) to chunkier foods like nuts, chocolate chunks, uncooked carrots, etc. It won’t cut into a huge chunk of carrot very well, obviously, but if u break carrot into a few pieces or use baby carrots & put them in, it’ll dice up fine. It still saves a LOT more time than dicing with a knife, safer on fingers, & definitely less messy. Just empty the bottom or cup into your bowl or whatever you’re using. A light tap on the handle isn’t going to quite do the trick in cutting, but it doesn’t take much “oomph” at all. I’ve let little kids use it (with supervision) to help me in the kitchen. Chunks of food don’t get caught between the blades. There’s a blade guard that the blades pass through to cut, but when u let go from pushing the handle, the blades retreat back so the blades don’t stick out anymore, effectively cleaning off any food that was on the blades. There are some foods that I might recommend dipping the blades in powdered sugar or flour. Ex: crushing Oreos for a recipe. Blade still cuts but it’s more efficient/productive/easy to rinse. This cutter isn’t rough on counters at all. I use it on a butcher block island & it’s never left an impression. The overall size it would take up in your cabinet or counter, would b the imprint of the lip of the top of a red solo cup. Same diameter. About 3.5″ in diam & about 9.25″ tall (fully assembled).

You can never go wrong with Pampered ChefHad the same model for 15 years and it finally gave up the ghost. Specifically, it didn’t fail from use, just from all the banging around, the plastic see thru portion’s tabs cracked and were no longer functional for holding onto the top chopper mechanism. I can say the blades and other parts are still in great shape and will be used for spare parts if ever needed. Great value and does a great job for everything except tomatoes when they have the skin on and are a little soft. Under those conditions, it may not cut the skins but will mush the them in some cases.

It lasts and stays sharpI received my first PC chopper as a Christmas gift. I loved it & used it for 16 yrs until the clear plastic sleeve cracked. Not without good reason I might add. I frequently used it on onions, carrots, nuts, pickles etc. After mine broke I bought another one right away. I have a food processor I used in the meantime but missed my little chopper.I’ve had it now five years and it’s still going strong!!
