Buy ItIf you’re looking for a righteous garlic press, you need this one. I’ve had two before that I thought were pretty good, but that’s because I hadn’t heard of this one. I trust the OXO brand, so felt assured that it would be good. Now I look for reasons to press garlic I love it so much. One thing you might have a question about: the hopper does not disconnect from the clamp, so you have to clean out the husk manually. Then pop it in the dishwasher.Another thing: you need a bit of hand strength to crush the garlic cloves well. But if an old girl like me can do it, it’s no problem for any ordinarily strong person.Buy it now. It’ll transform your recipes.

Easy but awkward to cleanLet me start by saying I am new to pressing garlic and have had no experience with another garlic press. That being said this garlic press does a good of crushing the garlic but you need to use a knife or something else to scrape it off the crusher as the crushed garlic just clings to it. The press is built quite sturdy and is easy to use. The handles are large and have a thick coating of some kind of material to make the grip comfortable and slip resistant. I usually use it with both hands but that is not necessary. If I had one issue it would be that cleaning out the old garlic skin is rather awkward. The skin is pressed very tightly to the inside bottom of the crushing basket. Blasting water from the back side gets a little bit of it out but you really need to pick at it with something to loosen it up. If you are lucky a piece of it may be lifted up and you can grab it and pull it out. Overall I like it, it gets the job done. Another device I really like is a garlic peeler. There are several to choose from on Amazon. They are basically a 4″ silicon tube you put a garlic clove into and roll it back and forth a few times. It’s amazing how easily it it removes the husk off of the clove. I actually like it more than the garlic press which I really like. If you need a garlic press I would say buy this one, also check out the garlic peelers while you’re at it.

Not bad at allThis is a very sturdy garlic press. Gets the job done. The different components are actually very clever and ensure you can see every little nook in order to clean it. Yes it does take some time to clean properly, but I prefer that over having to guess if it was totally clean or not which was the case with my previous press. Instead of using a sponge, I use a tiny cleaning brush, also by OXO, and it gets everything out. Even the stuff stuck on the little holes. Just scrub a bit with warm water. Then dry with a paper towel. I find if you put a little bit of oil with your finger around the press part, less stuff gets stuck inside.

This does the jobI have not had any problems with this oxo good grips. I have had no rust issues. I use it almost every day. This is much easier to use than smashing it in a mortar and pestle. The mortar and pestle does give premium flavor to things ground and smashed. The oxo garlic press is easier and does a good job. Still good flavor. This being easier is important to me. I am getting older and just don’t have the strength for the mortar and pestle. A++

Almost perfect…I love OXO products for the most part. This garlic press was highly rated and appeared to have the kind of sturdiness and design I was looking for. It is a heavy duty press and will likely last a very long time. The only caveat is that it doesn’t have a cleaning feature that the older model has. So, you’ll need to clean out the press w/ a toothbrush or small brush. A small hassle but otherwise it works well — quickly and w/ minimal effort!

Does the jobIt’s a strong press that minces garlic quickly. I don’t think the bucket function makes it much easier to clean, but my husband thinks it’s much easier than a traditional press. I think it depends on the user.
