I like to take my time writing reviews so that they are as accurate as possible. With a mortar and pestle, the product should be able to hold up for many years barring mishaps and mishandling. I’ve heard of them being passed from one generation to the next, so they ought to be able to stand the test of time.
When I first got this mortar and pestle set, I was VERY impressed with the weight and looks of it. I was not as impressed with the interior of the mortar, which was smooth as opposed to having any ridging or roughness to assist with the grinding. Regardless of this, it seemed to work alright.
I did not end up using it as often as I had planned, but each time I took it from the shelf where it sat (undisturbed), I would find what looked like black pieces inside. I started to check more often and double and triple check that there was nothing inside when I put it away, looking to see what was around to cause the substance inside. It wasn’t until later, when I picked up the pestle and a small piece crumbled off into my hand that I realized what was going on. Looking closely, around the shiny pieces, the pestle was starting to lose pieces. I had it for less than a year and treated it gently, being sure to oil it when it needed to be washed so it didn’t dry out. I think that, while the material is quite attractive, it is not necessarily the proper material for this application.

I first used the product to grind some table salt into powder for popcorn. I was concerned about the mortar forming a layer of iron oxide, so I left the residual salt in it for a couple of days, just to test. No iron oxide formed, so I think this is going to last a lifetime. Be sure to cure it with oil before your first use.
I’ve used it for grinding nuts, pepper corns, salt, pet medication, garlic and some other things I can’t think of right now.
This is a great product and it’s nice to look at as well.

Great price for a very sturdy and heavy Mortar and Pestle set. I was a little bit worried about the quality of this item as I didn’t see many review. However, i am glad I made the purchase. The set seems to be made by really heavy granite and the color looks nice. The pestle is also long enough to grind in the mortar and the shape of it feel just right in my hand. Highly recommend this set.

They actually thought this one through. The pestle shape matches the curve in the mortar perfectly making it easy to grind or crush whatever you want to exactly the finish you need. I don’t think they could have done anything better. I use mine all the time and the more I do, the more I like it. I also like the way it looks on my counter.

Very sturdy and large. Holds about an apple inside. Dries very quickly, so it would be easy to use for wet to dry use pretty quickly. Very pretty. I’d recommend it 100% if it matches your counters. Oh yeah, if you’re younger and you think you won’t ever need a mortar and pestle, you’re wrong. Great for herbs, salsa, making pizza sauce, i don’t know! It’s so versatile! I made home made applesauce with it. Best I’ve ever had. More likely to use than a blender, and it looks professional, cultural, and decorative
