I like that it fits in my pocket, which is where I would prefer to keep it especially since it has a pocket clip. I don’t know why Klein let it get through to manufacturing with the power button it has though, because it is always on every time I take it out of my pocket. One quick push turns it on and it stays on. Not sure how long to auto off. Batteries will be dead before the end of the week I’m sure. How about USE A 5 SECOND PRESS OR INSET BUTTON? People actually use these in the real world. Hey Klein.. Try designing them with that in mind.

Does not light up, all my previous ones lit up. Disappointed. Oh well.

I work in HVAC, we use temperature probes multiple times a day. This probe is nearly perfect:
Pros:
-Well built. The cover attaches to the back to become an extension handle for the probe to reach higher ceiling air vents.
-The magnet being located at the base of the probe is brilliant and everyone should follow that design. Makes our lives a bit easier.
-Accurate; it is right in line within 1 degree of fieldpiecd, uei, deltatrak, and infrared probes.
Cons:
The probe is slightly too thick. Every other manufacturer has slightly thinner probes, this translates to having to widen the holes in plenums slightly in order to take readings and avoid damaging the probes. It’s a minor detail which actually leads to a lot of headache. If Klein makes the probe a little thinner they would have a perfect product.

Tool works great for hvac work, reading temperature drop when the registers are in the ceiling with the magnet version (defiently worth the few extra bucks) is super easy. Turn it on stick it in the register an just wait a few for it to read. Back light is helpful in darker rooms as well.

This is a very well designed thermometer.
Very struddy

This bad boy is what you need. It ticks up and down sort of slow but it is accurate and magnetized in a clever way. Also orange so I can remember to get it easier.
Still haven’t lost my first one yet.

I’m a huge fan of Klein tools as an HVAC technician and use many of their tools. I purchased this one specifically for the magnet, in hopes of making it more convenient to get temps at registers and outside of condensers. I tested it on multiple surfaces and types of metal. The magnet isn’t even strong enough to hold the instrument up on a vertical surface, much less upside down. Would not recommend purchasing this if you want a magnetic thermometer. Since a major selling point of this product is the fact that it is magnetized, this issue warrants a 2-star rating. If Klein is willing to send one that has a good magnet in it, I’d be willing to retract the review but as it stands, the magnet is useless.

The designer of the battery clip should hang their head in shame. It’s 50/50 chance that every time you pull this out of a workwear pocket you’ll twist the clip and the batteries fall out… not acceptable up a ladder or standing on grids where the tiny button cells will be lost. If it wasn’t for the clip I’d have given a much better review. The accuracy is ok in comparison to calibrated gear. It works well in liquids but can be slow to change in air, a few minutes in static air so it’s not a replacement for a real room temp meter. The display is small, kinda 80s digital watch size, doesn’t like viewed from an angle. It’s tiny unit, the probe is about two and a half inches long. I’m surprised at Klein, I almost laughed at the fact the belt clip/battery holder is patented, like anyone would want to copy that 🙂 A fast reacting, sturdy and water resistant food grade thermometer with a large display and longer probe that takes more common aaa batteries would be a more rewarding to use tool.

So far this has been a good thermometer,
I like that it has a backlight on it, as sometimes I have to use it in low light conditions.
The only thing I want to point out is that be probe is slightly larger diameter than all of my other thermometers.
My other thermometers fit through a hole produced by #10 screw, this one won’t.
You need ~7/32″ hole.

The magnet is worthless, it won’t hold itself anywhere.
