This thermometer has been a success for me. I especially like that it reacts so quickly to the temperature rather than getting close and changing some and changing a little till done. This one’s done in a second.

Easy to use and very handy. Wish it was a little illuminated but this one’s price point is great for what you’re getting.

Great compact meat thermometer. Like the magnet on back to keep by stove. It seems to be accurate although I haven’t yet used it much. Its easy to read because of the back light, and I love that I can have it in Fahrenheit. It has a lock feature for the temperature when removing it from the meat which is great too. All in all it seems to be a good purchase, but I’ll know more when I’ve used & had it for a few months .

Use one of these when we grill to make sure that our meat is cooked to a safe temp. This seems to work well. No problems so far!

This thermometer works great for me and it is as accurate as my Thermapen. I like the On/Off switch so I don’t have to close it between uses when it is dirty. I did have an issue with the thermometer after a year and a half of frequent use. I wrote to customer service, and within 24 hours, I had a replacement.

Bought it to use as part of routine work making food and ensuring proper temperature control. It is very easy to use. Seems durable after about a month of use. Hopefully the only thing to do is replace the battery as it runs out.

This thing works great. I’m always a little paranoid about meat temps, but it’s apparently only because I never had a thermometer that works this well. I’m also surprised how much I like that it’s magnetic, handy for storage.

I bought both a $100 Thermapen Mk4 directly from Thermoworks and I bought this inexpensive Thermopro thermometer for beer brewing, as accurately measuring the mash temperature is important. The Mk4 has one advantage in that simply closing the probe turns the thermometer off, whereas the Thermopro has to be turned off by pushing a button. However, the Thermopro has the advantage of a lock button which is handy when the brew is steaming my glasses and I can’t see the reading. Instead I just hit the “lock” button, remove the thermometer from the steam and I can read the value. Calibration, if needed is easier on the inexpensive Thermopro as it is on the outside (lock and calibrate button are the same button), whereas the Mk4 requires the removal of a screw. To be fair, neither thermometer needed calibrating. I tested/calibrated both thermometers using an ice test, then tested on boiling water. For the most important issue, accuracy at mash or higher temperatures, I used an online calculator to determine the boiling point of water where I live to be 210.2° F (99° C). The Mk4 bounced between 210 and 211°, while the Thermopro showed 210.5, both within the limits of their accuracy and well within my needed accuracy (I realized later I could toggle the Mk4 to 1 decimal place readings, but that requires opening the unit up by removing a screw). Here are the pros and cons:
Thermopro pros:
– inexpensive at $21 not a big deal if I lose it
– has a hang hole and magnets to attach to metal
– has lock button
– calibration button is external
– has auto shut off after 10 minutes
– is very accurate
– reading speed within 4 seconds
_ Readings to 1 decimal place
– can toggle from °F to °C with external toggle switch
Cons:
– only IPX6 water resistance – will withstand a jet of water, but not immersion
– does not shut off when probe closes, so may waste batteries
– must register to get 3 year warranty, otherwise just 1 year
Thermapen Pros:
– Shuts off with closing of probe
– IP67 waterproof rated, can withstand short bouts of total immersion
– very accurate
– Reading speed within 3 seconds
– 2 year warranty
Cons:
– Calibration is internal – must remove a screw
– Toggle from °F to °C is internal – must remove a screw
– Have to remove screw to change reading to 1 decimal place
– no lock button
– no hang hole for storage and no magnet for safe holding while working
– Very expensive (I bought for $100 CDN ON SALE!)
So at 1/5 the price and with more features the Therrmopro seems the much better thermometer. Will the more expensive Thermapen last longer? It would have to last 5 times longer and at my house one of my sneaky kids will make off with it long before then!
So, my considered opinion is that the Thermopro is a very very good deal and I would definitely get it over the very expensive Thermapen. If anything changes over the next 2 years, I’ll update this review.

If you want the best of the cheap instant read thermometers, then this is it. The build quality of this thermometer is next level for the price. It may not be the fastest instant thermometer, but for me it’s fast enough at 3 seconds.
Build quality surprises:
1. The battery cover has a gasket to protect against water intrusion. I know it claims it’s waterproof, but I was surprised it had an actual gasket.
2. The body of the unit has a brass insert molded into the body to receive the screw from the battery cover. Will never strip out the plastic on the unit tightening down the battery cover. You just don’t see this on things at all. Also, the battery cover screw is retained, so you won’t lose it.
3. I must have missed it in the description, but the thing has a magnet to secure it to a grill, refrigerator, whatever. Found this out by accident and was pleasantly surprised.
Addressing some of the bad reviews.
The one about it being a battery killer. I’ve had mine since May and have used it several times. The rest of the time it’s just stored in it’s box in a drawer. Original batteries still going strong. Perhaps he got a counterfeit?
The guy that posted a video that says he can’t get the battery cover open is turning the screw the wrong way and stripped the head…
And the review about it not being “truly instant” must not understand gradeschool physics… Materials take time to heat up. If humans could figure out a way around that, we could do so much more than make a truly instant thermometer.

I own two of these both work as advertised. The second one had to be replaced as it would not calibrate out of the box. Seller replaced it the next day. Great product, great service!
