PRO & CONSStays on continuously (Good or Bad?) depends on how you are going to use the timer. CON: It beeps loudly every time the minute or seconds button is pushed (does not have continuous scrolling when the button is held down); to reduce the loudness it is possible to cover the speaker hole on the outside cover with one finger. If I wanted to enter 99 minutes and 59 seconds (the maximum time it will allow to enter) I would have to push the button 99 times for the minutes and 59 times for the seconds; since the timer never turns off, it will hold that entry until the battery would die. I can remove the battery to turn it off. The display is small, it is easy to read when holding it, when I put it on the refrigerator side 4.5 feet high from the floor with a bright light on the ceiling it is more difficult to read due to the LCD to light reflection. The magnet has strong a strong hold on the metal (remember not all stainless steal grades have sufficient fer rite metal mixture to hold onto magnets; in that case a small piece of metal would have to be glued onto the surface)

Best timer for the commercial bakerI am a commercial baker and have three of these timers, all between 5-6 years old and they have basically been through war. I switched to this timer because the other brands I used would break when they fall and usually stop working. This timer might have some of the structural parts break when it falls on the hard concrete floor, like the magnet falling off, or the hinge breaking, but the timer has *never* stopped working. Over the years, these has fallen *many* times with the battery flying across the room, but the timer always works just fine as soon as you put the battery back in (not the case with the many other timers I have tried, which often broke with the first drop). This is what I need in a timer when I rely on it so heavily! You can always super glue the magnet on if need be and it will last many more years. I will also say that even though it occasionally falls when I am in a hurry, it falls much less than other timers I have used because the magnet is stronger. It is easy to read, it is loud, and it is reliable. It is just what I need. As long as they continue making this, I will never buy another timer.

Like it but does not shut off and loud while settingOK, I really like this but am giving it only 4 stars because IT NEVER TURNS OFF and it’s also really loud when setting the timer (details further down). There is no way to turn it off and the display remains on forever, until the battery does depart. Excuse my play on wedding vows. This may be a moot point, since I read in some reviews that the batteries last for years, but that penny pinching side of me wants to be able to turn this off and not waste battery time on unneeded display when not in use. It’s smaller than I expected it to be, but it’s actually the perfect size for this type of thing. Not too big, not too small. I’m not sure why I expected it to be bigger. I’m attaching a picture of it in my hand. I have large hands. Not like Joy’s man-hands, but large nonetheless. This timer counts up (for when you want to see how long a task or a lap is going to take) and it counts down (for when you’re baking or needing something to last EXACTLY a certain time). It’s very loud. Although if you’re concerned about something like that you can certainly clip it to your clothing with the attached clip/magnet/stand thingie and make sure to take it with you if needed. The mentioned clip/magnet/stand is a really nice feature. The magnet is very strong and holds it securely to the fridge but does not make it heavy. It’s actually very light. I have no way to weigh it but I’m guessing about 2 ounces, judging from the fact that it feels as heavy as two first class letters each weighing an ounce. The timer stands on its own just fine (picture attached) or you can prop the stand open by lowering the included wire clip (picture of this also attached) and that makes it a “real” kick stand. As mentioned in some other reviews, it’s best to use it standing because the speaker is on the back of the timer and if you have it attached by magnet while in use, the sound may be muffled. Is is very simple to use. You can start or stop it using the same button and there’s a minute button and a second button which you use to set the timer as needed. You press both of these at the same time to reset to zero. If you need a large number, you can hold down the button instead of clicking repeatedly. That makes it more convenient. I did not like that it beeps loudly while you hold it down. Annoying but not a big deal UNLESS YOU’RE IN THE LIBRARY trying to time something. Best to use your cell phone in that case. It is really loud while setting it for long periods of time (it will beep 99 times if you set it to 99 minutes).Because of display size, you can set the timer for up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds (no, it does not go to 99 seconds).I did contact the company by email to ask if I just missed the shut off feature but did not hear back. I have checked all buttons (there aren’t that many) and tried different combinations of pressing them but there is no way to turn the display off when not using it so I don’t think it’s something I missed. Again, probably not a big deal if the batteries last as long as some reviews state. And opening the battery cover to take out the battery just to turn off the display is not an option. While I didn’t find it cumbersome to open, I’m likely to lose the batteries, so in they stay.I also thought it was very nice of the company to include the 2 AAA batteries that it requires. Kudos to them for that.If it had a shut off switch and did not beep each time you advance the time while setting, I’d give it 5 stars. But other than that, a really solid and easy to use timer.

It does its jobThis timer is not perfect but it does its job.I like that it runs on one AAA battery. I also really like the buttons and how they respond. However some dislikes are that the screen never shuts down when not in use (unless you remove the battery). I am unsure how this will impact battery life. Also the screen is not that bright so it can be hard to read at the wrong angle. This timer is really loud, that’s good if that’s what you are looking for. I will say I think It is really annoying when you are dialing the seconds.

A definite improvement over the Lux mechanical timer! When I married in 1969, my wife introduced me to the Lux mechanical timer, which her family referred to as the “ding”, so we did, too. I have noticed that the mechanical timers are breaking after increasingly short durations of use, so after the last one broke, I decided to go with this electronic model. What I like about it is that it is loud (as loud as the timer function on my hard wired GE Microwave, which says a lot), the beeping continues until it is shut off (to be fully accurate- as a test I let it beep for over 2 minutes, so it is possible it auto suts off at some point after that, but I doubt it), and both minutes and seconds can be entered. The only very minor down side is that entering numbers requires scrolling through until the correct number is reached, but the only way to avoid that is with a full keypad, which really is not practible in this design. In terms of form factor, this unit weighs only a small fraction of the mechanical timer, and is flat, so it would be easy to put it in a pocket if you had to leave audible range. It has both a stand function and a magnet, so there are many options for use. And, the battery that came with my timer was wrapped in plastic, which as I discovered the hard way, has to be removed before the battery will work. Duh!Update: I have been using this timer for almost exactly 90 days; and by using it, I mean at least 4-5 times a day to time various activities involved in food prep and cooking ( I time the 4 minutes it takes the 2 cups of water for my Irish oatmeal to boil, then set it for the 30 minutes the oatmeal takes to cook, I time the 11 minutes it takes for the pasta water to boil, then the pasta itself, and so on. This allows me to go do other things in another room and eliminates the need to be right there to prevent a screw up) . I love the fact that it far louder than the mechanical timer, and that it keeps sounding until it is shut off. To me, this is an indespensible tool in the kitchen, and thinking about it from a cost/benefit perspective, it is an absolute steal, a “can’t afford not to have one” kind of value. I can’t recommend this more highly.

Works well for my count-up timer purposeI got this because I needed a count-up timer for use when writing notes while video taping interviews.Good points: the count up can be paused and resumed from the time displayed when paused (important for my use); the display is easy to read; the counter counts up to 99 minutes 99 seconds (long enough for my purpose); the plastic case seems solid and a good design; the case will spring clip to, e.g., a shirt pocket; the clip may be configured to be a stand that positions the timer nearly vertical to a horizontal surface; the timer can rest flat on a horizontal surface except that the folded clip/stand elevates the case; the back of the clip is a magnet that will (barely) hold the timer stationary against a vertical steel surface; if the clip is configured to be a stand, the magnet positions the timer tilted upward a little with respect to a vertical steel surface.Possibly negative points: cost; the beeper, which cannot be silenced, sounds every time the counter is started, paused, resumed, or reset; to use the counter as a count down alarm the method of setting a new time for the count down interval requires holding down (or repeatedly pressing) a minute button until the correct number of minutes is displayed and then holding down (or repeatedly pressing) the second button until the correct number of seconds is reached, but there is no way to step these settings to a lower number–one either resets and tries again, or lets the number increment to its maximum whereupon it returns to zero and increments again from zero (on the other hand, the design is a simple one, there are only 3 buttons).FYI: If using as a count down timer, unless you reset the counter, the counter remembers the last time it counted down from. To get the counter to count up, first reset it but don’t enter a time–i.e, leave the time as o minutes 0 seconds–and then touch the start/stop button (which is actually a pause/resume button).FYI: To enable the timer for use, an insulating spacer strip is pulled out of the battery compartment. This seems to close the contact with the battery. At this point the timer is on and stays on for the duration of the battery life. The included and pre-installed battery can be replaced.

Easy to use. It easily resetsI use this timer for my exercise regiment that requires several 1 minute exercises. I can automatically reset it for the next exercise.

Why I really like this particular timer for my usesI discovered this LUX CU100 Minute Minder timer in physical therapy, where they used them to time exercise repetitions, and knew at once I wanted it.1. Aside from the old fashioned twist dial ticker-type timers, this is the fastest and easiest timer to set I’ve run across.2. When you hit the stop button it automatically resets to the previous time, so it’s great if you are doing something requiring a repetition of the same time.3. Easy set, easy reset. Press the MIN button to add minutes. Press the SEC button to add seconds. Press both for instant delete back to 0000. If you want a lot of minutes or seconds, just press that button and hold. (I timed it: it takes just 8 seconds to add 60 minutes to the minute side.)4. If you want just seconds, just add seconds. How many kitchen timers have you had that required – if you wanted just 45 seconds – that you do something like entering two zeros first (to fill the minute spaces) and then 4-5?5. Start and stop are on the same big button, not separate little buttons as on many timers.6. Very small size, easy to carry in shirt pocket, but big, clear read-out. (Not lighted.)7. Magnet on back to attach to metal. Tiny fold out stand to stand it on a counter or any flat top.8. Uses standard, common AAA battery found anywhere.9. Cheap. I paid about $12 on Amazon. I see they are now about $13.Granted, there are lots of specialized timers this won’t compete with for special tasks. We have a kitchen timer with three timers on it, which is occasionally useful. But it’s also much more tedious to use, and a lot bigger. Another small timer requires remembering patterns to set.

Just not the greatest timer, overallCant return since my printer is out. Thats Amazon..This timer has a defective spring. It wont stay on a shirt if you want to keep track of something as u move around your house, otherwise, great big numbers, jist put in the battery. Push minutes..get your 5 or 10 etc., and then press start. The buttons make a nice EZ click that you can feel and hear. LUX is a grand old timer manufacturer. But, if I cant wear it, I dont need it. Please dont tell me I should not complain about retruns here.I am disabled and the lack of a printer, for now, should not end my shopping.I am sure others dont always have paper or ink or a perfect printer forever.I just need a little consideration. Or a break. The return site wont allow anything except SEND IT BACK.Stores on Amazon are nicer than Amazon sales are. I cant get thru to ask. And ..money is money,If I cant return it, I have been mislead. Sending me a label is not unreasonable. Its not a continual matter. Other stores cut good customers a break. Why cant Amazon allow someone in a spot.. allow a simple break..and mail me the label ?Edited 2-14-16I learned this is not Amazon’s problem. But there are help options if Amazon habdles the actual shipping. So I changed my rating. Its hard to get thru the help maize and quizzes, but its there if you dont pay shipping fees direct to shippers. These still are too touchy to wear while outside the kitchen. Thet cut off easily. So, four stars. They also are a clunky size ( bigger than others, heavier) too.
