Ok, first off, I want to say that Oster is a brand name that I have trusted, so when my hamiliton beach breadmaker died after a year I began searching. The Hamiliton Beach one had (just a year) a defect in it and you could buy the part and spend $50.00 or a new breadmaker. Seemed the issue I was having others were having. Not wanting to have the same issue I found the Oster one, it had on it a fruit and nut dispenser on it. I thought ok, I will try it. Well after a month of using this I had to go back. First, this is a noisy machine, I mean noisy. Shakes, rattles, clunks and clicks. The fruit and nut dispenser opens prematurely we discovered after a while and then would not close, which caused moisture and heat to escape the machine making your baked items turn out not right. For one, we tried each color setting, the first loaf came out off white but the bread was done. We put the color setting on medium, and it was just a little darker, and on the dark setting, it was a light brown. The loafs were small, but cooked. We tried the pound cake setting and when the machine said it was done, the middle still was not cooked and we had to put it in the oven for a while. After a month enough was enough and I asked for a refund. I blame these issues on the fruit and nut dispenser, so I do not recommend this Oster Bread Machine. BUT what I did do, is to order another Oster bread machine, when I got my refund, but this time without the fruit and nut dispenser. Well, so far on my new machine, we have made 2 loves with no problems, it is a much quieter machine, the machine will beep when its time to add something. We have not tried any other options as of yet, but plan to. So in closing, I would look at the bread machines without the fruit and nut dispensers.

This OSTER BREAD MAKER WITH EXPRESSBAKE (1.5 or 2 Pound Capacity) is budget-priced (about $112 on Amazon). It makes a nice vertical loaf of bread, IF you weigh your bread flour and follow the included recipes exactly.
However, baking a loaf strictly according to the recipes is difficult, because the recipes do NOT include the flour weight. This is true even though the booklet advises you to weigh your bread flour! The recipes call for cups of flour, so you will need to do the weight math. Your bread flour packaging should tell you how many cups there are to a pound (for example, Gold Medal white and whole wheat bead flours have 3⅓ cups to a pound, which works out to 408 grams in the 3 cups required for Basic bread).
If you need to adjust your ingredients (for example, if you need to reduce the salt for a no-salt-added diet), your first loaves will collapse badly in the middle while baking. I had to make a dozen experimental loaves to find the specific combination of 1 tsp. salt, flour, and water that would produce the 30% whole wheat flour loaf shown in my photo.
When I followed the included recipe for basic raisin bread exactly (1½ tsp. salt), the loaf was beautiful–but it was inedible for someone who has been on a no-salt-added diet for some time. It tasted incredibly salty.
Bread machine recipes found by Googling say that salt can usually be reduced by one-half, with no adverse results. This was true with my old Regal bread machine, and is true with my more expensive
Panasonic SD-RD250 Bread Maker
(about $260 on Amazon). With the Oster machine, reducing the salt requires a lot of experimentation.
I like the Panasonic machine a lot. It makes a horizontal loaf, and it is flexible regarding the amounts of salt and other ingredients that I want to play around with. However, a number of reviewers have stated that the Panasonic machine quits after a few months. I haven’t been using my Panasonic machine (purchased to replace this Oster machine) for long enough to know whether it will offer more than a few months of service.
There are differences in the way that the Oster and Panasonic machines make Basic bread. The included recipes for the two machines are quite similar, but the kneading and overall times are different. The Oster machine begins kneading as soon as you press “Start”, and takes a total of 3 hours for a Basic loaf. The Panasonic machine leaves the ingredients to “rest” for up to 2 hours before kneading begins, and takes a total of 4 hours for a Basic loaf. Both bake the loaves for about an hour.
Both machines have settings for French bread, dough, etc. (check the product page descriptions for the exact types of things that the machine is intended to make). Both machines also have “express bake” settings that will bake a loaf faster than the normal 3 or 4 hours.

The product came in good condition. For the price, I can’t go wrong. It’s way cheaper than brand new and I got an item same as brand new.

This breadmaker was a dream come true when I first got it. I may or may not have made pounds upon pounds of bread when I got it. After the first handful of uses, it stopped mixing the dry ingredients in the bottom four corners. After the bread is done, I just now have to cut off and reshape the corners because the dry ingredients are petrified by the time it’s done. Maybe i’m doing something wrong?

Its a pretty decent product for the money. However the motor inside the bread maker is very weak. If you want to make more than 1 loaf a day you have to let the bread maker rest for an hour to 2 to let the motor cool down or else it will over heat and stop working. Also the fruit and nut dispenser will open automatically at predetermined times so unless you want your bread to stick the release tray you will have to manually close it

I thought the machine was well worth the price. I was kind of I was Skeptical when I brought it out of the box, because it was so small. It runs just like the bigger machines. I only use it to make dough. So far it hasn’t let me down.

This is .5 the size of my old machine will be doing official trial later this week fingers crossed👍🏼. Ok first loaf done looks good feta and spinach loaf, one thing I miss from previous machine is the tracking of status as bread is baking.
