The Ferrari-Lamborgini of SlicersIt’s magnificent, I’ve wanted a Berkel for years, only I wish it were just a biy better designed. The on/off button isn’t ergonomic, I keep searching for the right angle to turn it on; the motor sticks out a bit too far after the blade so slicing bread breaks the slices; the gizmo that pushes the meat out after it is sliced is attached by a weak magnet and falls off. Nonetheless, it’s a thing of beauty.

Not as premium as the price suggestsThis slicer sure looks pretty and works reasonably well. That being said, at this price point I would have expected the housing not to be made of cheap plastic. I also would have expected the blade extractor not to be a separate $58 purchase. And it is not optional as the manual suggests. You need it to remove the blade and properly clean the machine. The thickness slider has a fair amount of play in it and no detents, so if you try to change the thickness by 1, the blade only actually moves by .5. It’s a bit like slapping a fake luggage rack on a Chevy Cavalier and calling it a Cadillac.

Step up from the normal home slicerI had been shopping for a slicer for a while. My folks had a commercial slicer, so I knew I was not going to be happy with one of the nylon geared home units. The next affordable step up seemed to be the slicers that looked like they were made by one company but branded by 10 different companies. I just am not a fan of companies that do not own their own production. Based on unique design alone, you can tell this is a Berkel manufactured item (Berkel factory in India where produced). The slicer is awesome works like a charm, quiet powerful and easy to clean. I still feel a 5 start item even though a couple little disappointments. 1. I wish the blade remover was included. 2. could use a handle or something (no slicers are easy to maneuver though)

A high quality work of artI saw these food slicers in upscale restaurants and piadina bars in Italy and Switzerland. They are so beautiful that some places simply have them on display. I have always wanted one but knew they cost thousands of dollars. I was therefore very excited to learn that Berkel finally made a “Home Line”. This Berkel slicer is for people who appreciate the finer things in life and who enjoy the enhanced taste of freshly sliced food (meat, cheese, fruit, etc.). Highly, highly recommended.
