I Hacked My JuicemanJuiceman JM480SMy wife and I are daily juicers, every morning for breakfast we juice about 400 ml. It makes juice just like the advertisement claims. After two months(about 60 cycles)of this casual daily activity the juicer simply stopped working.THE HACK, sense the juicer stopped working I hacked it (took it apart) to see why… this is what I found. The entire inside of the juicer was coated with a thin sweet smelling sticky film, (YUCK) even though we were careful to wipe it down after each use. The problem was easy to identify. The on/off switch has contactors, some of the sticky film was on the contactor, that why the juicer didn’t work. It was an easy fix with a damp Q-tip. There are also two small safety contactors to prevent the juicer from working if it’s not properly secured before use (GOOD – SAFETY), however they were also showing signs of the sticky yuckness. If it wasn’t the on/off switch it would have been one of the contactors. The sticky yuck that accumulates inside could have been easily resolved with a couple of cheap well placed seals.QUALITY, this unit is made to throw away. The entire unit is made of recyclable plastic (GOOD) but if you are a fixer type like me don’t mess with the rotating cup, it breaks under the slightest pressure rendering the juicer useless (BAD). The manufacturer uses `funny’ screws (BAD), those special screws not available to the public. (I modified a screwdriver with a file to hack the juicer). Stainless? Don’t be fooled, like most stainless looking products, the “stainless” is actually plastic with a micro-thin coating that looks like stainless.WARRANTY, replacement was easy, although I did go through about 20 min of press 1 for this and 7 for that, and being on hold due to unexpected call volumes (DAUH)… To get it replaced simply cut the end of the cord off and send it to OHIO with the provided transition code. Disposal of the unit is your problem(BAD). If you want to recycle it you have to take it apart. (FUNNY SCREWS!?!)CONCLUSION – This Juicer is designed to fail. The more you use it the faster it will fail. It is also designed with a through-away mentality not a recycling mantality. Even though it is made of recycled plastic it is also full of windings and metal parts etc…making it non-recyclable as an assembly. This is the kind of product that is bad for our environment, cheaply made with a short life span, and usually ends up in the landfill as a unit. Sense they are sending me a new one I will end up put two of these in the Klickitate County Landfill within a year (BAD). But I think I might take the new one apart and modify it to keep the sticky ooze on the outside! We love juicing; the next juicer will be made of metal and repairable!

Love my Juiceman Juicer JM480SAfter extensive research bought this juicer. Used it 3 times now and I am very happy with the performance. I have juiced carrots, apples (remove the core & cut in quarters),cucumbers, berries, & grapes. Intuitively, I used the low speed for the fruit & the high speed for the veggies (the instruction manual advises this as well). I think it makes quick work of the veggies that I juiced. I saw reviews from others saying it bogs down, but I disagree.Quick clean-up, can load on top rack of dishwasher or hand wash, but I think the integrated pulp container is best cleaned in the dishwasher. The base and main parts are stored on my counter, but the citrus attachments will have to find a home in my kitchen cabinets.I am interested to see how it will handle beets. For the $80 purchase price, I know it will quickly pay for itself since I was going to a cafe and paying $4.50 a pop for a 12oz juice. Which isn’t a bad price but if you want fresh juice everyday it would get to be expensive. The chef at the cafe has juiced for years and advised me to cut beets into pieces. He even cuts the beets before juicing them in a HUGE commercial juicer that has a tube chute which ejects the pulp directly into a 40 gallon garbage can! I can’t imagine how much that thing cost but then again I don’t have 2 feet of counter space or 4 figures to spend on juicer. Again very happy so far with the Juiceman JM480S.

Good for beginners!I bought this juicer at TARGET in October. I think it is a good juicer for someone to see begin with and if they get hooked to juicing, which I have is to eventually upgrade to something else. My biggest disappointment, and I have read this on the Breville as well, is that food can get caught in crevices of the machines and one can not get it out. In the Juice-man, it is between the plastic piece surrounding the wheel. The only way to remove it is to soak in Clorox overnight. I called the warranty department and I have been waiting for a replacement for over 6 weeks.. I have called twice. They say it is on back order. I have a feeling it may be a manufacturor defect. Time will tell if and when I get the replacement. I really have enjoyed this other than this defected assembly piece. Unfortunately it is probably be too late to return it it Target. If it does not get resolved or the replacement assembly has the same food getting underneath the plastic by the wheel, I will upgrade to the Champion Professional.

Does the job, with a small footprint. This juicer was powerful enough for the fibrous greens I threw at it, and the fiber collected in it wasn’t too wet. It has to be cleaned out more often than a standard juicer, or it can get backed up and clogged. It’s also difficult to tell when it needs cleaning out, due to the centrifugal force, but hey, that’s what makes the juicer work in the first place, right? I live in a tiny apartment without a lot of counter-space, so this is a perfect model for my needs. But if you have the space for a larger juicer, you should probably get one of those.

OK for a year and a 1/2, then started leaking grease that ends up in our juiceWorked pretty well for a year and a half, although super loud. Then the adapter between the juiceman and the citrus juicer started leaking a brown liquid, some kind of grease. That ended up in our orange juice, disgusting.I tried cleaning it a few times but it always comes back, so the Juiceman is useless now.UPDATE January 2015: Juiceman sent me a replacement part, and my juiceman is like new again, so it’s back to 4 stars

Wife Loves ItThe wife wanted a juicer for the longest time and finally I reseached them online. The Juiceman line compared well with all of the more expensive juicers out there. It seems that the key according to the reviewers is to get one that is at least 800watts. That way you don’t run into a problem of over working the unit. This juicer makes easy work of everything that my wife has put through it so far. The one thing the reviewers caution about is the feeder neck being large enough. This one has a 3inch feeder neck and still my wife has found a way twice to get apple halves stuck in it. Everything works fine if you quarter the apples and any fruit that is large in diameter. Great product and best price at Amazon.

I’m happy with itIn the year that we’ve had this juicer I’ve been not only satisfied with the product but with the customer support from Juiceman. I broke several pieces with an all day apple juicing marathon (putting whole apples in it). Juiceman replaced all of the parts no questions asked! It’s a good juicer. It’s actually the cleanest juicer that I’ve had. The pulp is very well contained! It’s also very easy to clean.

Chicago_LisaThis juicer overall is doing a good job. But by comparing with the older model that let the pulps be discharged outside the machine into a big container, this design keeps all the pulps inside unless you disassemble the machine. When the pulps can be discharged directly outside the machine, it allows me to make bigger quantity of juice for a family of 5 so that everyone can have a big cup of the juice before dinner.

Cheap and unreliableThe plastic parts on the Juiceman are poorly crafted and break easily. I ordered replacement parts, and they aren’t cheap. I recently ordered a refurbished Juiceman from VM Innovations ( […] )thinking that I could have a complete set of spare parts, and though it was cheaper overall, due to their inadequate packaging the first Juiceman arrived in broken pieces. Also, the second one they sent me arrived broken; the snap up juice spout was broken. VM Innovations also claimed that it was their policy not to pay for return shipping. I wouldn’t waste money on the Juiceman 480S or with VM Innovations. If you are going to get serious about juicing buy a Breville.

AwesomeI love my juicer! The citrus part of it seems like a waste, I’d rather use my press for that. But the ability to core an apple and in 2 seconds I have fresh juice that has no preservatives and the kids LOVE, makes me happy. It’s an awesome juicer that has 2 speeds, but I’m not quite sure why… I do suggest, if you feel that you’re not getting the most from your fruit, to put the pulp through the juicer one more time just to get all of the juice out of it – I don’t do this because I use the pulp for homemade pet treats.
