Not worth the price for meI bought this because there are times dragging my stand mixer out is just not worth it. A good hand mixer is an excellent purchase for anyone that bakes, cooks or even just might use it occasionally. I love the kitchenaid brand mixers because I have to say, it’s an excellent quality product that has lasted decades in my home. This 9 speed is a good hand mixer, but not worth the price. I am comparing this to the kitchenaid 5 speed mixer which I ended up buying and returning the 9 speed. This mixer does start nice and slow in comparison to the 5 speed mixer, so if that’s really important, go for it.The lowest 2 speeds are lower than the first speed of the 5 speed mixer, but I found them really unnecessary. I found myself just going to at least 3rd speed immediately. There are a few speeds in between 3 and 9 that you don’t get on the 5 speed mixer, but at top speed on either mixer the power is the same. Both are 120v so there is no difference in the max power. The on/off and speed adjustment on this 9 speed are awkward for me to use as well. The on off goes from side to side and to adjust the speed, there is a very small button to push. I guess I’m just stuck on the old time switch that adjusts speed and powers off /on forward to back.As far as the extra accessories go, I found the whisk, blender rod and dough hooks for a little more than $10 each, so don’t talk yourself into justifying the price for the accessories. The dough hook accessories are meant for a lighter batter, like pancake batter, definitely not your general bread because of the power. I really found them useless for the mixer. If you make breads or heavier dough, invest in a stand mixer because it will have the needed power. The whisk is about the only accessory I found a little useful and worth purchasing separately. Great to use with pudding, and sauces. I use my stand mixer for whipping because it has more power and takes less time. The blending accessory is nice, plastic end on a stainless rod, which is not like it used to be. Used to be metal instead of plastic end. Again, the power of the mixer will not allow for a smooth smoothie. I could see it working to make a milkshake, drink mix, possibly soups or sauces pretty well, but this is pretty expensive for that lightweight use.The turbo beaters are a better quality than the 5 speed, a bit more sturdy, but again, not worth the price because the quality of my 5 speed beaters is just fine.Overall, for the price, this is just not worth it to me. For the ease of use, practicality, price and overall performance, just get the 5 speed and if you find the attachments necessary, buy them separately. In all practicality I found the only useful accessory to be the whisk, just so I don’t have to drag the stand mixer out for quick and easy projects. The turbo beaters work for light dough, as pancake batter just fine. (I really just mix pancake batter with a spatula.) I have a ninja to make smoothies and mix powdered drinks. I just can’t justify paying twice the price of the 5 speed mixer for as little as this mixer offers so far as performance.

For A Hand Mixer or a Stand Mixer – Think KitchenAidI currently own a ” KitchenAid Ultra Power Plus 5 speed hand mixer ” ( see photos ) that I purchased 15 to 20 years ago for $79.99. I’m pleased to inform everyone that this hand mixer has never failed to produce and is still in excellent working and cosmetic condition after all those years and at least a hundred uses during that time frame. I decided I would purchase the new KitchenAid Architect KHM926Cu Digital 9 speed hand mixer and compare there performance. The only reason I purchased this item is because Sears.ca had it on sale for a few days ago for a whopping $52.00 off the regular price of $129.99 or ( $77.99 ). I decided I would make a batch of “Soft and Chewy Oatmeal Cookies” and use them both during the mixing portion of this recipe. Anyone who bakes will certainly agree that any cold butter cookie dough recipe is a challenging recipe for any hand mixer and the torque from the hand mixer can be brutal on your wrist. A KitchenAid Pro Line 7qt Stand mixer is the correct tool for this task but there is a lot more cleaning involved when using a stand mixer and its a great recipe to gauge the quality of your current hand mixer.I would have placed this review on Amazon.ca ( my favourite place to buy things ) but unfortunately at this time this item it is not currently being sold by Amazon.ca. Hopefully my neighbours to the south will benefit from this very honest and in-depth review of this product even though it’s not a verified purchase through Amazon.com. I will post it on Amazon.ca as soon as I see it listed and shipped and sold by Amazon.ca.There is very little difference in size or weight or balance for these two items. They both stand on there end on the counter and the older 5 speed sits more secure and sold ( less likely to tip over ) than the new 9 speed. The cord length is generous on both but the 5 speed power cord is in a fixed position on one side while the 9 speed offers the versatility of changing the power cord position either to the left or right or centre on the hand mixer. The new 9 speed power cord also has avery nice and permanent rubber strap at the end of the power cord that allows you to neatly fold up the power cord for easier and better storage. The 5 speed only came with a pair of quality stainless steel beaters and the new 9 speed comes with a better grade of beaters, 2 dough hooks , 1 whip and 1 blending tool that can be inserted in either side of the hand mixer. It should be noted that the dough hooks are intended for lighter recipes or less dense mixtures than bread dough like tea biscuits etc. It’s doubtful in my mind ( and I’m not even going to try ) to make bread dough using a hand mixer with dough hooks. A stand mixer is far better suited for that task .Both these units use powerful Direct -Current Motors and both produced the very same top speed and torque. If there was any difference between the 5 speed on high ( #5 setting ) and the 9 speed on high ( #9 setting ) it was not detectable by yours truly. The Digital 9 speed does have a definite lower speed on #1 setting than my older 5 speed and thats a blessing. The 9 speed automatically goes to the lowest setting ( #1 ) every time it is turned and I like that feature. The digital control on the 9 speed is slower than the old slide mechanism on the 5 speed when adjusting the up and down speeds. On the 9 speed you must push the arrow once for every increase or decrease in speed. The amount of torque on my wrist from both was the same and the noise generated from both was identical and not as quiet as some have stated in their reviews and is still noisy. The beaters ejected easily on both and both units cleaned up quickly after use.The bottom Line. The only improvement I personally found between the new 9 speed and my old 5 speed was the lower speed on #1 setting. The colour of the new 9 speed is nice. The side view photo below ( 4th from the left ) depicts the exact colour of the KHM926CU hand mixer. The tool bag is well made and a nice feature and will keep your hand mixer tools all in one area and easier to find. The power cord ( strap ) used for storing the unit on the 9 speed is also well made and well designed.I gave the KitchenAid KHM926CU 9 speed Digital Architect hand mixer FIVE STARS because there is absolutely nothing wrong with this product and I purchased it for $2.00 less than what I paid for my old KitchenAid 5 speed hand mixer many years ago. If your in the market for a hand mixer and budget is a priority, then the KitchenAid 5 speed at less than $50. is a quality product at and excellent price and you will not be disappointed with the 5 speed hand mixer. If you can afford a few dollars more and prefer the digital controls and the newer design over the 5 speed model, then by all means go for the 9 speed or even the 7 speed. Be patient. All small appliances items constantly go on sale through-out the year. I recommend this and any KitchenAid products when it comes to a Hand Mixer or a Stand Mixer.

Perfect KitchenAid applianceThis comes in handy when you don’t have time to take your stand mixer out. It’s just as practical as the stand mixer. It has 9 speeds and get the job done just as efficient as the stand mixer. It is easy to handle and very easy to clean. 10/10 recommend

not impressed. inconvenient controlsI a very disappointed in this mixer. It replaces a cheap-o one I had for years that had 5 speeds which I was happier with (but alas, after many years needed replacing.)I like the slow start feature of this mixer, but that’s about all I can say good about it.First off, speed 9 is not all that fast. So, I’ll probably end up using it for almost everything. It is a pain in the butt to get it from off to speed 9. First, it has an awkward on switch (which feels backwards to me. You push to the left to turn it on rather than the right.) Then you have to push a button 8 times to go from speed 1 to speed 9. What a total pain in the butt! It’s so annoying that you dread having to turn the mixer off for a moment to scrape the bowl.My old mixer had a manual lever that you pushed in one movement to get it all the way to the highest speed. It was WAY more convenient. This sucks. If I can still return it, I will.I’m really unhappy with it. 🙁

works great for sourdough breadThe media could not be loaded.
*ONE YEAR UPDATE*I’ve had this for over a year now. I use it at least once a day for breads, cookies, crackers, goat cheese (we eat a lot of goat cheese) and it’s still working just as well as day one. I don’t use it on bread dough a ton as I feel like it was getting too thick for the motor to handle; thankfully there’s been no damage. I’ve had my five and seven yr olds use it as well. The dough hook is AMAZING for mixing peanut butter, it’s really a life changer in that regard. I have to say I’m a huge fan.**************I was gifted a Kitchen Aid stand mixer when I got married, in fact, my mom said that she was holding on to it for my wedding day. So I found the first guy I could and married him so I could get the stand mixer. I used it basically everyday as I have to do a lot of cooking from scratch for my food-sensitive family. After 9 years of blissful dough mixing, my stand mixer broke. I was devastated. I had to start mixing bread dough by hand. Like a pioneer (1st world problems, I know). Knowing that I would have been the worst pioneer ever, I told my husband that we really needed to replace the mixer. Even after looking at tons of Black Friday deals, they were just too expensive for us at this point in our lives. We then started looking into hand mixers as a temporary fix for some of the un-breadly mixing needs. And then I realized that these things have dough hooks. I scoured the internet looking for reviews about the hand mixer dough hooks and most people have never even used them. I like to live dangerously so I talked my husband (of 9 happy years now) into getting me this mixer instead of the more expensive stand mixer. The day this arrived I used the dough hooks. They really helped with the annoying initial mixing of the bread dough which was always the worst part. It took it to a great point where I could just hand knead the dough the rest of the way. It’s a little therapeutic, I guess. They were really easy to clean off, too. The dough mostly came off on its own and the little bits at the end easily slid off. I gave them a quick wipe and rinse and they were good to go. These dough hooks are great if you are looking for a less expensive way to help out with your dough making and you don’t mind just a little hand kneading at the end.I included a video of the consistency of the sourdough after just a couple of minutes of mixing. It was pretty sticky at that point, but about a minute after that it was ready for hand kneading.I make my dough at night after my children are in bed, one bonus of this mixer is it is not loud at all. It’s way more quiet than my original Kitchen Aid stand mixer. I could still hold a conversation with my husband in the next room as I mixed.I have used the mixer multiple times now for various foods and it has been wonderful. It’s easy to clean the parts and storage is ok in the bag. I would have preferred the plastic container storage that the other leading brands have, but I’ll deal with it.This was everything I need right now at just a fraction of the price of a stand mixer.

👍 Well balanced, strong and versatile 👍Wow this is one powerful hand mixer for just .9 amps! Its electronically controled DC motor exhibits equal torque on all settings, so even at the lowest speed it doesn’t bog down. While another reviewer complained that you have to click through the up and down arrows to adjust speed, discovered I could simply hold either button to travel back and forth between 1 and 9 on my unit, whew! Had also been a bit hesitant to purchase at first because was unfamiliar with the newer style of beater attachments with the wire loops, but found them to be a noticeable improvement over the older fashion bladed variety. For one thing they generate less friction so take less effort to stir with and don’t unduly warm batters that need to stay cool prior to baking. And of course, the reduced surface area means hardly any batter clings to them when done mixing, so there’s less waste and much easier clean up. Whatever newfangled stainless steel formula the manufacturer is employing seems really strong too so I’m not terribly worried about these attachments bending or breaking with use.Must confess I’d been a bit skeptical as to whether The KitchenAid would be able to mix a semi-whole wheat pizza dough but it came through like a champ on a one pound ball, which was twice as much as I needed for a thin crust recipe. Not sure what its limit might be in this regard, the dough hooks are not very long so effectively prohibits the user from overloading the motor with too large a batch. Worked really well on an eighteen muffin cranberry orange nut recipe where the chunky ingredients get mixed in last, finished product had a wonderful pull-apart quality while retaining a soft crumb. Would have been difficult to obtain similar results by hand, that’s for sure.Blending rod’s five spoked translucent white disk seems to be made of either nylon or polypropylene, should be quite durable. Immersion blenders, especially with mashers, might be more efficacious for puréeing, but this slim attachment will eventually get the job done. Doesn’t generate much of a vortex, which is sort of a good thing in that you can fill any vessel near to the top without risk of splatter even on the highest speed (soft startup really helps too.) Long shaft reaches to the bottom of a typical 24oz tumbler. Won’t produce a spectacular amount of foam in a shake, for that you’d need the whisk attachment which does generate quite a vortex, demands about 75% headroom (because contents will expand ~ 50% on their own, in addition to spinning up the sides of the mixing vessel.)Have only been using this KA a short time and while pleased with its performance thus far can’t attest to its longevity — sprang for the four year protection plan just in case. Honestly it’s plastic casing seems kinda flimsy and mars easily (just wiping it down with a Viva paper towel left faint marks) but on the plus side it’s comfortably light in weight. Do wish it had silicone pads to rest on in the standing position though because the two tiny raised dots and one thin line the mixer depends on don’t offer any impact resistance and can’t keep it from sliding around on a wet countertop. Fortunately the rubbery, heavy duty power cord makes an effective brake, while left and right locking positions keep it turned out of the way no matter which side of your work area your electrical outlets might reside. Icing on the cake of course is that unlike a conventional stand mixer, this hand beater can be used over the stove, convenient for preparing those glazes and frostings that have to be heated while mixed. Perfectly balanced in the hand so attachments naturally hang straight down, makes all kinds of food prep seem effortless. So glad my ancient Oster finally bit the dust, giving me the excuse I needed to pull the trigger on this way more versatile KitchenAid!Hmmm…. Wonder why only two of the four photos I posted are showing up here now. Sorry folks!

As good as advertised. Quiet, smooth, light.Looks great out of the box, just like our countertop Kitchen Aid mixer. Runs smooth. Spend a bit more, get this one and it’ll last a lifetime.
