You Won’t Regret It!This is our second Breville toaster oven, and so far we love it even more than the first. Our original one lasted 9 years before developing issues (you had to bang on it to get it to turn on), so we felt it was time for an upgrade. This Smart Oven Pro doesn’t look that much bigger than the old model on the outside, but has room for 6 pieces of toast and a much bigger pizza pan. The controls are easy and intuitive, and I love the way the rack pulls out automatically when you open the door. The light in the oven is also a welcome improvement. So far in addition to reheating, toast and bagels, I’ve made a pork roast and broiled salmon, which turned out great. The broiler seems to brown things much more evenly than the old smaller model — the only issue is that it’s hotter on the default setting, so next time I’ll adjust the cooking time or temperature a little. I haven’t baked anything yet, but the old oven made great brownies, so I’m sure this one will as well. And, with the larger oven size, my 11 X 7 pans with a lip on the end fit perfectly. With the old oven I had to use a square pan. The only downside is that the instruction manual is more basic and doesn’t include recipes. The older manual was really helpful in figuring out cooking times for various foods. I’m having to do more trial and error on this one, especially since I’m not used to a convection oven.

The Rolls-Royce of Toaster OvensWhen the thermostat died on my well-loved two-slice toaster oven (it would toast, but not oven), I was surprised that the good quality, newer toaster ovens were all much larger. Figuring if my replacement oven was going to take up more precious counter space, I wanted one to earn that space by doing more than just toasting and reheating foods.I’ve found it with this model Breville toaster oven with the Convection option feature. The interior light is a bonus. I also prefer this toaster oven’s crumb tray being removable from the front of the oven rather than having to open a bottom trap door or fumble around in the back of the unit to remove and replace the tray after cleaning as I did with my old oven. It’s more likely to get cleaned more often when it’s easier to do.The oven came with a metal pan for baking, a pan insert for broiling, and a round pizza pan. They all seem sturdy, but I have chosen to continue to use my own bakeware items instead since I use various sizes and types depending on the recipe. The manual for the oven recommends using only metal cookware in the oven, which would mean much of the cookware I use for casseroles and stews would be a no-go. I contacted Breville customer service to inquire about the use of Corning Ware, ceramic or pottery bakeware, and oven-ready Pyrex and was assured that it would be safe to use as long as the individual pieces were rated oven-safe.The oven has default settings for temperature and time for each cooking option, but all can be over-ridden by the user. These new settings will be held in memory for the next time you choose that option assuming you don’t unplug the unit between uses as I do, The large grounded wall plug is a clever design that makes it much easier to pull it from the wall outlet without the danger that can be caused by pulling on the wire itself.I do a lot of baking, so I’ve been putting this unit through some testing to see just what it can handle to take some of the load off of my full sized oven, especially in the summer months. So far, I’ve used the Bake feature with Convection for a batch of brownies, sandwich bread, and pound cakes. All of the items came out perfectly except for the sandwich bread. The bread came out with pale, soft side and bottom crusts rather than nicely browned chewy crusts, while the top was over-browned in places. The eight-inch loaf pans did not allow for enough air circulation and the oven spring of the dough caused the bread to rise too closely to the upper heating elements. The pound cakes were baked in seven-inch loaf pans which allowed sufficient air circulation so the cakes browned perfectly. All baking was done with the rack in the bottom position.I have also used the Bake function for reheating frozen items such as fish sticks and French fries. The manual doesn’t explain what the Frozen Food option does, only that it is available as a selection when using the Cookies or Bake options, but it seems only to automatically increase the baking time by an extra two minutes. This adjustment can cause over-cooking if you are using the cooking times listed on the packages of your frozen foods since those times already take into account the extra time needed for bringing frozen foods up to the proper temperature. In short, the Frozen option is of little to no practical use.I used the Cookies option with Convection when baking homemade frozen cookie dough, and found that the cookies baked slightly faster than in my full sized oven and needed to adjust the time slightly downward to avoid over-browning. The cookies were baked with the rack in the center position as specified in the manual.Since there is no top-brown option for the oven as I had with my old oven, the manual recommended using the rack in the top position and using the Broil function. When I attempted to toast chopped nuts for a recipe using this suggestion, it was not successful and the nuts browned too quickly and came out slightly burned despite stirring or shaking the pan. In the future, I will use the Bake function instead for toasting nuts.I also noted that the pre-set temperature for Broil was 500 degrees (F) and could only be adjusted in 100 degree increments unlike the other options where it can be adjusted in five degree increments. Even though I chose a lower temperature than I usually use for toasting nuts, I still had the over-browning and burning problem. I would opt for the Bake function for toasting open-faced sandwiches as well instead of the Broil option. Here’s a hint: When the rack is in the lower position for baking, it’s difficult to pull out when holding a thick pot holder without the risk of getting a knuckle or two burned, but I’ve found a work-around with a little metal tool used for prying open paint cans. The metal tool has a small hook at one end that is just right for pulling out the rack or pushing it back into place. No burned knuckles. These tools are often handed out for free when purchasing paint or can be purchased inexpensively in most hardware stores. Is this toaster oven perfect? No, but it comes close. There are a few small irritations such as when the oven light turns on and off automatically, for example, when the oven reaches the preheat temperature and again when there are thirty seconds left on the timer. It also cuts off automatically after thirty seconds even after it’s been turned on specifically with the light button. I’d prefer to control the light myself rather than having the oven decide for me.The same goes for starting the timer. As soon as the preheating has completed, the timer starts ticking down even if you aren’t there to immediately place the item into the oven. The time can be readjusted, but I’d prefer to start the timer myself when the item has been placed in the oven in order to be more precise with the baking time. Depending on what types of cooking you plan to do, this may or may not be an issue. As I try baking and cooking more types of foods and using the various options available on the toaster oven, I’ll update this review in the future.Recommended.PRODUCT UPDATE 25 NOV 2016:Since writing my original review, I have tried using my trusty old Pyrex bakeware on the Bake setting. The Pyrex worked just fine, but remember when using glass baking dishes instead of metal to *decrease* the oven temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit.I’ve also used the Roast setting using the Convection option on the oven for a small boneless pork loin. My time guesstimate based on the roast’s weight turned out to be less than needed to bring the roast’s internal temperature up to the recommended 170F degrees and needed to add 20 minutes to the time. The roast came out perfectly with the additional time. I would strongly urge anyone using this toaster oven for meats and roasts to use a meat thermometer to ensure that the food is really and truly cooked to the proper temperature rather than simply going by the time cooked to judge if it is “done.”

Best toaster oven I foundI did a LOT of research before buying this oven. My sister-in-law has the same model and loves it, which is how I heard about Breville. I used hers to make toast and bagels, and based on my good experience decided to buy my own oven.I’ve since used it to cook all kinds of things, including potatoes, pizzas, chicken, and lots of other things. The convection oven works really well, and for some items replaces my air fryer. I wanted to get a toaster oven so avoid using my full-size oven less frequently, and the Breville has met that need very well. The settings are intuitive and simple to use, and there’s a wide range of temperatures and times that will cover every baking/cooking need. When toasting it’s simple to add a few seconds if one of the presets isn’t enough for your liking, and if the toast is done before the timer runs down, you can easily cancel.I couldn’t be more pleased with this oven. Unless I’m cooking something large, I rarely use my full-size oven any more. Highly recommended.

Great Oven – Read the Manual FirstI have forced my mother onto a diet because her cardiologist wants to give her bariatric surgery before he decides if any surgical intervention is necessary on her heart. One of the biggest problems about cooking when you are single is that your oven is too big for little jobs. In my mother’s case, it also holds baking sheets, cooking pots, strainers, etc. Between lugging out all that stuff, heating the oven, the wait, it is a little inconvenient. And obviously resorting to the microwave and convenience foods has hurt her. So I figured a small convection oven would be a good idea. It is convenient. It can handle a roast or a chicken. But it can also make a nice baked potato and roasted vegetables. My mother refuses to read a manual. Giving her a new phone every couple of years requires my taking dangerous amounts of Xanax mixed with alcohol. Computer pop-ups notifying her of updates result in harried phone calls. Tablets, Rokus, Blu-Ray players … God help me. I wonder why I ever do it. (The obvious answer is so the neighbors cannot speak ill of me.)But the set up on this is simple enough that even she can handle it. The first nob is for method, the second is for temperature, and the third is for time. Yes, there is a convection setting button and one for frozen foods. She even figured those out. But it is intuitive. She knows now not to have anything touching the walls of the unit. She knows that it is necessary to pull it from the wall when she wants to use it. She knows not to touch the sides unless it has cooled down. What I am trying to say is that my mother, who was a government employee, can figure this thing out. It is great for cooking a one-pound pork tenderloin. It is great for baking a pork chop. In other words, it is great for a single cook. The window tells you what level to put the baking rack at. The bottom tray pulls out for easy cleaning. And because I read the manual, I was able to explain about not touching the elements when wiping down the inside, etc. This is a great little device for the single cook. One of the hardest parts about making food for oneself is either portion size or that you have to make big food and be stuck with it all week if you don’t freeze it. This and a FoodSaver (which I also bought her) lets you buy a big roast and cut it down and vacuum seal it.Couple things I have noticed:1) People who show photos of blown-out wall outlets or burnt walls or ruined plugs didn’t read the manual. It clearly says that it should be four inches away from anything on all sides and six inches from anything above. This sucker gets hot. It is not insulated like a regular oven. Don’t put it in a hole for a microwave, even if you have heat sinks all about.2) If the thermal fuse blows on your oven, it is actually a five-dollar part and there are ample YouTube videos on how to fix this. It is easy to get the OEM replacement. There is no reason to throw the oven away. I’d also argue those who have this problem may be leaving their oven too close to walls.3) I don’t think convection saves a great deal of time. I cooked a one-pound pork tenderloin in there and followed the old rule about one-third less time at the same temperature. It didn’t really work. But if you let the oven cook and use the convection, it results in a nicely cooked outside. I wouldn’t say it is a sear, but it looks nicer than if one merely baked it.4) This thing is great with frozen pizzas. It is auto-set for this and you just put it on the included pizza plate and let ‘er rip. The convection gives a nice, even cooking to it and it doesn’t come out all cracker dry and browned like in a conventional oven. Plus you don’t have to look in on it every two minutes to see if it is done. It is hard to find a sweet spot on frozen pizzas in a big oven. Probably because of uneven cooking.I have not baked cookies or pastries in this oven so I don’t know how that goes, especially with convection. I have only cooked meats, vegetables, and potatoes. Vegetables roast so nicely. I attached a photo of some Brussels sprouts I recently did.I think a single person or a couple will stop using their large oven if they get this. I am surprised that studio apartments don’t just provide one of these and an induction top to save space. I am looking to build a very small home and I plan on doing just that. This is a fantastic little oven, and if used properly will produce satisfying results.Just read the manual. It is not as simple as just plugging in and making something. You do have to know how to use it.

A review you can trustI purchased this toaster oven on March 3, 2020, and I have used it at least once a day, every single day, in the nearly two years since.I have never once had even a slight issue with this fantastic oven. My English muffins come out consistently every time — all the muffins are the same level of brownness, and from one day to the next, they are absolutely perfect.I also occasionally bake pizzas and other foods in this oven. With only a very small exception, the cheese reaches a uniform golden brown exactly how I prefer it, and I know it will do the same the next time I make a pizza. One nice thing about this oven is that for most foods, you don’t have to guess a time and temperature. You just don’t. Instead, you select the type of program you want and the amount you’re making. For instance, I have English muffins every morning with breakfast. I set the oven to the “toast” program, darkness level 5, and quantity 3 — sometimes you have to set the quantity by +/- 1 to get the results you want, but that isn’t enough of an issue to reduce the rating. When I hit start, the timer is set to exactly the right time needed to achieve that level of darkness. There are many different programs, which you can read about in the product features above, so I won’t go into them here. I have personally used the toast, bagel, pizza, and bake programs. They all work very well. The bake program, unlike most others, does require you to set the time and temperature. For pizzas, you enter the size (in inches) and the temperature, and the oven suggests the appropriate time. I have found the time suggested for pizzas is far too long, but I have only baked thin crust pizzas. For a Chicago-style deep dish, the time would perhaps be too short. But without an option to set the crust type, this is to be expected.I have also baked frozen fried chicken tenders and French fries, with excellent results here as well. Warming up chocolate chip cookies from the bakery is a snap: in under 5 minutes, I have “fresh from the oven” chocolate chip cookies with gooey melted chocolate chips. Some toaster ovens I’ve used take forever to heat up… and some run so hot I have learned (the hard way) that I needed to cut the suggested time in half. This one is spot on. Preheating to 425°F takes around 5 minutes or a bit less (I haven’t actually timed it).The one small issue I have had is that the right front section tends to get slightly hotter than the rest of the oven. Not a lot; only slightly. It doesn’t make a difference with foods like toast, which complete quickly. But something like a pizza, which takes about 12 minutes (after preheating) for my preferred pizza in this oven, the cheese will be a bit browner in that area. The included baking pan, pizza pan, and grill pan are high quality and sturdy, but the finish does not stand up to pizza cutters, so be sure to take the pizza off the pan before slicing, or otherwise to cut very carefully.Cleaning is easy, but could be better. The crumb/drip tray pulls right out from the front. There could be some improvement here though, because there is a bar running across the front that collects crumbs, and the only way to really completely clean the oven is with a handheld vac with the right attachment. Also, I would prefer if the drip tray had a nonstick coating like the included pizza pan. If food gets baked on, it can be difficult to clean off.Of all the toaster ovens I have owned, I have been far happier with this one than any other. There is no contest. Is it perfect? No… but nothing is. It’s pretty darn close though. Breville toaster ovens are comparatively expensive, and this model doesn’t double as an air fryer, but I will never buy another brand again, so long as this oven continues to please me like it has for the last two years.

So far, I am in love with this oven.Mine just arrived today, and I am in love with it. If it was legal, I would marry it. I bought it as a stand in for a defective oven in the house I rent. While I work on getting the landlord to replace the bad stove/oven unit, I needed something I can cook in that is not going to burn my house down. So, toaster oven and an induction cook top is my solution. Not to mention that these both will be useful after the stove issue is resolved. I have been debating getting a toaster over for literally a couple of years and with my ever-climbing electric bill, only cooking for one, and my oven being defunct, I decided to go for it.Then the questions became…Which one?How big?Features?I REALLY did not want to spend this much on a toaster over. But I couldn’t bring myself to buy and El Cheapo, and then hate it for being not big enough, not having features I want as a serious cook, etc. Then reliability complaints about just about every model toaster oven on the market.I read review after review, on and off Amazon, and ultimately the reviews on both thesweethome.com and Cook’s Illustrated sold me on the Breville. It was a toss up between the Breville and the Cuisinart TOB-260N1. There were a couple of deciding factors that led to the win for Breville. One was the fact that the Breville has a replaceable bulb for the light. The Cuisinart does not have a replaceable bulb. Another factor was the display. A lot of people didn’t care for the display on the Cuisinart and liked the display on the Breville far better. Lastly, there were a number of complaints about the overall construction of the Cuisinart and general quality control. i.e. Inconsistent gap around door, etc.So I decided that for the sake of about $50 over the life of the unit, I would take the plunge and buy the Breville. I am very glad I did. I still have some reservations about longer term quality, but time will be the judge on that score.Much of why I like it is a direct result of just how bad my oven was. However, this thing is still pretty darned great on its own merits. It heats up fast, does not dry out my frozen pizzas, makes reasonably decent toast, and will do pretty much anything I would need a full-sized oven for, with a perhaps an exception here or there.First thing I did was cook a 12″ frozen pizza. It came out perfect. I can’t wait to try a fresh made pizza. There was the slightest of uneven doneness right at the front of the oven, which I solved by giving the pizza a 180 degree turn a couple of minutes before it was done. And that was more an issue of me being picky than anything else. Then I made toast. It makes toast as well as my starting-to-flail Cuisinart toaster. Perfect toast was so far down my list as to not really be factor. One doesn’t buy a toaster oven for perfect toast, if one really wants success. (My opinion, of course.) This makes more than adequate toast for me. I can always whip out the old toaster if I want to get picky about it.I have an addiction to Trident brand fish sticks sold at my favorite warehouse store. ADDICTION, I tell you. But I hated trying to cook them in my nightmare oven. Cooked unevenly, burning the crap out of them before heating them through. Not to mention heating a huge oven for a few fish sticks. So I am just over the moon excited to try cooking fish sticks in my Breville tonight.I have only done a couple of things with it today as a test run, but my first impressions are really favorable. I am confident this will do everything that I expect and want it to do.Initial impression of manufacturing quality is very good. Nothing weird. No parts that don’t quite fit. No obviously poorly made parts. Instructions are good. I find it very easy to use, although I did actually read the manual first. I love, love, love the oven light.I have found that my fancy Oxo 9 x 13 cake pan does not fit in it. There is a rim on that pan that doesn’t clear the light on the inside. And my 13 1/8 th inch pizza stone does not fit, by a hair. Not a surprise. I expected that, based on the specs. Not a big deal for me. I will get a cake pan that fits, and a little bit smaller pizza stone. Just something to bear in mind on larger pans with rims or handles that might not clear the light or make for a tight fit.Edit: I realized that I had tried to put my OXO 9 x 13 pan in on the middle rack. Doh! It would actually be used on the bottom rack position. Not the middle. So it does actually fit.All in all, I am super pleased with this toaster over. It isn’t even as big as I was thinking it would be. I was thinking it would be tank-like on my counter, but it actually fits very nicely and doesn’t look monstrous. It’s a very attractive unit, to boot.Time will tell on longevity. I do have some concerns there. I have also yet to do any serious cooking in it, so we will see how this holds up to expectations. With those caveats, I would already recommend this product as a serious contender for someone looking for a countertop oven that will see real duty.

Great Precision OvenThe temperature is very precise which is a big deal since most are off by up to 30 degrees at all times. Easy to use, easy to clean, and it preheats in about 90 seconds since it’s smaller. It takes up less space then my micro wave. I wouldn’t worry about the size. Even with small counters I store all it’s respective pans inside the oven it’s self when it’s not in use so the space is never an issue. The only negative is the spring close mechanism on the door. It’s causes the door to slam shut very hard when you lift it. This is a small hazard when you are cooking in it and you open the door to checks the internal temp or such.

The best toaster ovens around!Breville ovens are not cheap, but last much better than low cost ones. Our last one lasted for about 8 years of daily use. About a year ago, the “on” button started to go; it had to be pushed 3-4 times to get it started. In the last month the heating elements started to fail and heat/toast unevenly. So now we have new shiny one that is much the same as our last one, but has a light! And the on button works every time with one push.

Perfect for our motorhome. The oven in our 5th wheel was a nightmare. When i baked biscuits half were burnt and the other half were nearly raw. When we bought out motorhome I opted for a dishwasher instead of an oven and bought this toaster oven. It’s great. Everything bakes evenly, it’s easy to clean and it has a broil function my old oven lacked. It’s small enough to sit on the counter but big enough to do some serious baking. I love it.

Lots of features in an attractive package that has proven to be reliable! This is our second Breville and if it is as good as the first we will be happy customers. This one has some additional features that sold us it as our replacement. The slow cook feature is especially intriguing .Will want to use it for more time, but as of now it is doing the counter-top job beautifully.
