Works great as toaster or ovenI have used this toaster to make toast, cookies, quiche, cornbread, tuna melts, and frozen foods such as pizza, chicken nuggets, fish, onion rings, tater tots, etc. During summers in Florida, I move it to our enclosed patio area to avoid heating up the house. The only issue I’ve noticed is that I need to use a temperature about 50-55 degrees lower than what the recipe says for convection baking. I haven’t had a problem using Pyrex pans in it, although the directions advise not to. I never preheat and have never had a problem. I use parchment paper on the pan because I don’t like cooking on a nonstick surface. The parchment paper has worked great. I’ve been running the cooking pan through the dishwasher with Ecover dishwasher detergent and never had a problem with rust. Overall the toaster oven has been easy to clean. The crumb tray has gotten discolored with white spots and some burnt spots that won’t come off. I’m not cleaning it very often, and it’s gotten a lot of use, so I don’t consider it a major issue. One thing that wasn’t clear in the directions was which rack to use for convection. I use the middle level for convection, not the lower level.

Nice oven for this price point,….for the most partThe media could not be loaded.
I’ve had this toaster oven for several months now and over all I love it, it’s a great unit at a fantastic price on sale. I only have one child at home now so I mainly use this for meals for myself and it fill that faction perfectly. It has it’s quarks like then temp setting are only set in 10 degree increments, so 350, 360, 370, etc. but over all I’m happy with it. I do have one caution for buyers and that is be skeptical of the customer service reps knowledge of the unit. I call them to ask what size chicken can I use on the rotisserie and after much time on hold I was told 5 lbs. Well the chicken in the video is only 4.5 lbs and the only way I could get it to fit (kind of) was to remove the racks and use an after market pan I had purchased separately as a drip pan. And the chicken still rub against the lower element, I gave up and used the bake function instead. My recommendation if you are going to try to use the rotisserie is to keep the bird to 3 lbs or less.

After 14 months of using….Got the oven last year August and it has been 14 months. I used the oven to reheat and making sandwiches. The Toast function is not perfect and you have to toast it twice. I prefer to use the Pizza function instead with lower temperature and longer time. Get some parchment papers and it will reduce a lot of pan cleaning….

Software is poor and /or has Bugs – Mechanically very well designed- XL Version 34QtFirst) The software does not work. BTW, I am a retired engineer who designed dozens of machines. So, I am not just not understanding how to operate this device. On my purchased example, in oven mode, the maximum temperature setting available is 360deg F. On the rotisserie mode, the maximum temp setting is 460– this is backwards from what Toshiba factory comments in the user questions stated. Furthermore the pizza setting only gives you 6″ or 9″ size choices — no way to bring up 10, 11, or 12, or 13″ advertised! BTW- who decided that all pizza has to cook at 400deg F?. Who decided how long I want to cook my pizza? That is the only temperature choice given for pizza! The time seems to be set by the diameter. DIAMETER, WHILE REALATED DOES NOT EQUATE TO TIME REQUIRED. Many of my frozen pizzas ask for 425 degF while others want 375deg. the time required is also a function of amount of ingredients! Some of the users commented that 12″-400 Deg works well for them. I cannot find any way to get past 9″ size. IS my unit A BAD EXAMPLE OR DID THE SOFTWARE GET UPDATED BADLY?Some of the users complained that the temperature setting choices increased in 25deg increments. Maybe for another model, but in this XL 34qt model the settings increased in 5deg increments which is good. The re-heating mode setting allowed me to set a temperature of 450deg. F. Why is the reheat able to go to 450deg F but NOT the bake cycle? Maybe Toshiba reprogrammed it to allow for 5deg increments but screwed up the other.ON THE VERY POSITIVE SIDE; Thermally, this is one of the few lower priced toaster ovens that has attempted to add some efficiency and safety to the design. This toaster over has a double wall top and side. This will significantly lower the outer wall temperature. Increasing safety and lowering heat loss. On the same topic, this is one of the few toaster ovens with a double glass door that actually has some thermal seals! I expect this will be much more efficient than most small toaster ovens and will heat the room less too. Some toaster ovens I have looked at even have wide open cracks at the door edges.Lastly, this toaster oven has a rack/ groove design that attempts to limit the inadvertent full withdrawal of the rack. What a nice thing to see! As far as how well the rack stop works, I would give it only a C- grade. Every full size home oven I have ever used had such a safety feature. Obviously a rack coming out too far will fall and is liable to spill hot food. This one will give you some indication that it has reached the end of its design travel. I have another 3 year old Toshiba toaster oven that more than once, when I brought the rack out just a little too far and let go, it would tilt downward at the front enough so as to slide the rest of the way out by itself! This was because the guide slots were so wide that it did not hold the rack level when out more than half-way. Because of safety concerns, I felt compelled to make an improvement to that rack system on that oven, myself. Toshiba are you listening?I AM RETURNING THIS OVEN BECAUSE OF THE SOFTWARE. If anyone can tell me that this was a bad example and their newer software is better, I might order another sample.

Major design flaws as the handle that opens the door simply gets way too hot. This review is for the Speedy Convection oven. I ordered this for a college student to make some college food like pizza and light cooking like lasagna. Since I have a Breville oven and this oven is about half the price of the Breville I figured I would give it a try.The good part:The design is very nice. The display looks great. The black design is very classy. Now, the bad part:The pictures make it appear like it has a light. It does not. A bit bizarre and rather misleading.Once you set the cooking time, the timer runs while the oven is heating up. So, if you are planning on cooking something for 10 minutes, it will be down to less than 8 minutes before it is actually hot. Compare that to the Breville that waits until the oven reaches set temp before the timer starts.I guess I’m used to the Breville pulling the shelf out when you open the door. This one does not. Not surprising considering the price point. Just something I noticed. And the Unacceptable part:The handle on the oven gets HOT. I don’t mean warm, I mean too hot to touch. I measured the handle temperature with a laser thermometer and I got 140F to 162F. Burning hot. I can not even open the oven without using oven mitts.Which is why I’m returning it. I didn’t expect to get a Breville for half the price, you get what you pay for and I was expecting some trade offs. I did however figure the trade offs were acceptable, and for the most part, they would have been. But the handle temperature is not acceptable. I wouldn’t feel safe letting anyone operate this oven when the handle it literally too hot to touch.I only ended up plugging it in, and testing it before I discovered the handle issue. So, it is going back unused except for the initial burn in. Which is a shame.
