Love It. Detailed review follows. What a buy. This unit normally sells in the $75 range. I did a number of tests and my results follow.I normally cook with quarter sheet pans with a wire rack (13 x 9) and this oven easily accommodates them with room to spare. These pans are commonly available so you don’t need some overpriced specialty pan from the manufacturer. The temperature is adjustable from 150 to 450 degrees in 25 degree increments. It scrolls fast and could not be easier to adjust.I tested the bake function from 150 to 450 in 50 degree increments. Amazingly it held accurate to within 5 degrees in all cases, even over a 30 minute span. Impressive! It is always in a “convection bake” mode and I can’t imagine why you’d ever want to turn convection (the fan) off. In any case convection is always on in bake.Broil works quite well and here the fan is off. Temperature is adjustable within a small range. You need to use the high rack position. The timer is brilliant. Example: You want to bake at 350 degrees for twenty minutes. Select bake, select 350 degrees, select 20 minutes, select start. The oven preheats and when it hits 350 degrees it beeps and only then does your timer start and after 20 minutes the oven turns off and beeps. Many complain about the difficulty in understanding how to operate the oven. They are right. But the solution is easy. Download the short manual available here at Amazon and read it for the 5 minutes it takes. There are only four useable functions: bake (aka convection bake), broil, toast and a surprise bonus “bagel”. (The other three functions you’ll never need and are actually variations on bake).Bagel toasts only the top of the bagel and not the bottom. Works well with English muffins too. Love itBTW: toast works great with 7 levels of browning. Bagel has the same 7 levels.Preheating: 250 degrees takes 4 1/2 minutes, 450 degrees takes 8 1/2 minutes. This seems long but it is a big oven. Finally a WARNING: Under no circumstances place this oven anywhere a child could touch it. The top and sides get dangerously hot. I measured a bit over 200 degrees on the top of the oven!!!!!!! I have the blisters to prove it. A partial solution is to purchase a silicon drying mat and place it on the top of the oven. Max size for the mat is 20 x 9 inches. I found one a bit smaller. This does NOT eliminate the heat but reduces it some so your hand will survive for a second or two before you get burned. The mat also provides a surface where you can place things without scratching the oven. My tests were done at 450 degrees for 30 minutes. Remember: whatever you place on the mat will also get hot and how hot depends on how long the oven has been on and the temperature you selected.

The controls should be betterI have now had this about 3 weeks and I have waited to write the review until now. I will give a more practical Hands-On review than others. First of all it’s really quite large think twice the size of a toaster oven. Or a bit larger. It is not cool to the touch. Meaning it heats up so it should be placed a little out from the wall. It takes up a good chunk of counter space. Have it there or have it on a cart. Again twice as big as a toaster oven. I have it sitting on my counter top next to my full size oven. I wanted to make the size clear but I also knew the size of it before I ordered it. If you truly want an additional oven this is what you get. That’s what I wanted cuz I don’t want to start up my big oven in South Florida. The fan for the convection is quiet and efficient. I have made toast waffles reheated pizza reheat sandwiches, and I made a 2 pound meatloaf. Am very satisfied. The issue as others have said are the controls. There are 12 different buttons. When you press one of them they default. You then adjust it. In most instances the oven then preheats. There is a beep. Then you push the on/off switch to start it. It is NOT complicated. But it’s not user friendly. I’ve had it about 3 weeks and I’m still getting used to the controls and I have the directions close by. But I also knew that I would be using the same controls and once I learned those it will be fine. And that’s just what’s happening. I did a lot of research before I bought this thing. I found out about it because Consumer Reports rated it. You really don’t have much of a choice if you want a large oven. It can toast up to eight pieces of bread. Usually an oven can take six. This one can take eight. It can take a 9 by 13 pan. You can make a cake or a 2 lb meatloaf in it. So that is worth any inconvenience of learning the controls. FYI. I really got a deal because I bought it from Amazon warehouse. Yes there were a couple flaws in the finish. But I can live with that. If you’re not a perfectionist order it from the warehouse and save yourself money. I would buy it again.UPDATE. Well I have now been using it almost daily for the last 3 months. And I just noticed Consumer Reports is rating it very high once more. Again this oven takes getting used to. I can honestly say this. If your oven went out you could use this one. I am currently baking pork chops in it. In a cast iron 12″ skillet. Most cooks will know other toaster oven not even possible. But again you must get used to the controls. They are NOT user friendly. Here’s the easiest way. Forget the timer function. Use another one. I use Alexa. But the oven is fantastic for cooking. It’s a convection oven. Also it draws a high amp. You cannot use microwave and toaster oven at same time. But. I now just throw another pan in and cook two things together. I had forgotten. Non microwave food tastes better. It’s large. It’s big and fat and unattractive but I really like it. LOL. Give it a chance.

Bigger and kinda complicatedThe buttons are hard to figure out and I can’t figure out the timer shutoff for the oven.

Large toaster oven for families with some advanced featuresBlack and Decker TC3290XSD Toaster OvenThis is an attractive unit with stainless steel sides and top and wide glass front. The controls are digital, which is a plus since you get exactly the same setting each time you select it, as opposed to the more traditional spring loaded countdown timer knob. The controls are on the right front, and have little icons to tell you what they do. The icons are not that easy to understand initially, so there are descriptions of each icon on the glass just to the left of the controls in three languages, which is a lot of writing on the glass. The unit has settings for convection bake, broil, toast, reheat, pizza, bagels, and frozen snacks. You can accept the default settings for each or use the temp up and down buttons to change the setting. You also have access to a timer which you can set so you don’t accidentally over cook something. It will not start timing until the oven reaches the set temperature, and will shut the oven off when the timer is done. Nice feature for those of us who tend to put things in the oven, go into another room to “take care of one or two emails,” and then finally pull the food out when the smoke alarm is going off. However, it is worth noting that the timer does come on automatically even if you don’t set it, so make sure it is giving you enough time to cook your food, or set it to just “stay on.”This is a large unit, primarily for families (or those living without an oven!) It measures 21.5″ wide by 11.25″ tall by about 13” deep. It is advertised as an 8 slice toaster oven, however, as you can see in my pic, if you are using normal size bread you will only get 6 slices toasted at a time. In my first test, I put 6 slices in the oven and set it to “4” (the default). As you can see in the pic, they are minimally toasted, and the slices on the sides, especially in the back, were not quite as done as the middle pieces. Test 2 was to determine how each setting toasts, and so the next pic is of two slices (placed in the middle of the oven) on “4” then two on “5” then two on “6.” The 4 setting took 3 minutes 30 secs and is just barely toasted with a chewy center. The 5 setting (4:20) is more golden brown and still chewy inside. The 6 setting (six minutes) was obviously overdone. So I tried the 6 setting again, but this time put 6 slices in the oven. The last pic shows the results: an even brown color, with some chew left in the center. I would only use the 6 setting (not to mention the 7 setting) for either frozen bread, or when the toaster oven is full of bread. By the way, the second time I did the 6 setting it only toasted for 5:40, so the unit makes internal adjustments when the oven is already warm. Nice feature usually only found in more expensive ovens. It should be noted that toaster ovens can save money, especially vs electric stove ovens, since the toaster oven is heating up a smaller space. That said, it always makes sense to get the smallest toaster oven for your needs, as this will be the most efficient. If you consistently only toast 2 bagels for breakfast, this is not the toaster oven for you. If you consistently toast 4 bagels, you’ve got yourself a winner. Was able to bake an orange/olive oil cake in a cake pan, and a pizza directly on the oven grate in the middle position- both came out perfect. As with almost all toaster ovens, the outside of this unit gets hot. A couple of minutes after toasting, the sides were still measuring 145 degrees, and the front stainless just above the glass door was 160. Care should be taken to avoid these surfaces.

I liked it so farAll I wanted from a toaster oven are1) Wide enough for Pyrex 9 x 13 casserole dish2) Stainless steel interior instead of nonstickThis toaster oven fulfills these two factors.I can use a Pyrex 9 x 13 casserole ware with handles. It literally fits into the oven.Since it is stainless steel interior, I do not have to worry about nonstick coming off.I cooked bacon in the oven and cleaned the interior with Magic Eraser. It was really easy to clean.Below are cons of this oven.1) There is no big difference between convection and nonconvection setting. I use non-convection setting for all my cooking like reheat, frozen treats, and baking because the fan noise from the convection setting. I cannot deselect the convection in major functions of this oven like baking, reheating, pizza, ans warm. As some of reviewers addressed, you can hear loud fan noise for the first 8 to 10 minutes of the convection and the noise will come down a lot after that. It is really weird.2) While you are using this oven, the front and top of the oven get really hot. I can tell the kitchen temperature goes up a little bit that I did not experience with a Breville Smart Oven Air before.3) Temperature setting is a 25 degree incremental. If you have a 415 F setting, you cannot have that temperature setting. You need to adjust temperature or cooking time from a recipe.4) The oven is really light. If you pull out a rack and take a dish out from the oven, please do not do that. Since it is a light weight oven, there is a chance of flipping over the oven that may cause a terrible accident. I used to do this way with a Breville Smart Oven Air but not with this oven. I just take the dish out from the oven without pulling out a rack.I switched to this oven from a Breville Smart Oven Air due to the nonstick coating.I mainly use this oven for baking, reheating, and frozen treat and this oven fulfills what I need even though there are no functions like dehydration, slow cooker that a Breville Smart Oven Air provided.I used to have a Breville Smart Oven Air but its nonstick kept coming off so I cannot use it.

Easy to use after understanding the programmingBy the use of a stand alone thermometer, the temperature seems to be about 25 degrees F. lower. It is possible this stand alone thermometer is not accurate.Careful reading of the instructions allows for quick programming for the task at hand.

Nice Big Size, but Need Engineering Degree to Figure Out Control PanelPurchased this to replace a 20 yr old Black & Decker toaster oven (that still worked fine!).Unlike our previous toaster oven, this one is a disappointment. A couple reviewers called it “over engineered” and I’m inclined to agree. Simpler was better. The control panel is not intuitive and difficult to understand, even after you’ve used the oven a few times. They should have just stuck with two setting options… one for the toaster function and one for the oven function. Instead they tried to make the control panel more like a microwave oven, with TINY images and shapes on the various buttons. One is supposed to look like a slice of pizza, another is supposed to look like a slice of bread. They both look similar… and very small. This oven is under our cabinets and so the lighting isn’t the best making the control panel even more complicated to figure out. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, you have to hit multiple buttons to get the oven to come on, AND STAY ON.The first few times we used it, we pushed a couple buttons and lights came on, so we assumed it was heating. In fact, it was not. Apparently you have to push the start button in addition to all the other buttons/settings.Also, as some reviewers mentioned, the oven tends to run HOT. So if your recipe calls for 350 degrees, you may want set the oven closer to 300 degrees, or shorten the cooking time.As frustrating as the control panel has been to use, we’re gonna keep the oven at least for now, mainly because we like the big size.UPDATE: We employed an old school solution to the resolve the button mystery; stickers with actual words, just like the old days (see photo). Works well. Now we don’t spend a full minute staring at the button icons every time we want to use the toaster oven.

The best! The very first toaster oven given to me was a Black and Decker and lasted forever. After it finally gave me it’s last breath, I decided to try more kitchen oriented brands. Can’t tell you how many I have been through searching for a decent one. They all died too soon, as well as not baking, broiling or toasting evenly. After my last one began to burn everything and I hadn’t even had it a year, I decided to look at Consumer’s Report. This Black and Decker model was # one recommended. Remembering my old faithful B&D, I decided to order it, and it has operated perfectly since day one. The oven temperature is right on and I am finally getting my morning toast exactly as I like it! In addition, all the digital components work perfectly, and the directions for them are very easy to understand. 10 out of 10!

OK, but not really that great!I purchased this toaster oven to replace a “Black & Decker CTO6301 Digital Advantage Stainless-Steel 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven”, which was dying a slow death, and which, unfortunately, is no longer made. My thinking was that the Extra-Wide body would accommodate my baking dishes and that I would not have to use my regular gas oven (which FWIW is used to store the majority of my baking paraphernalia).I also like the push button controls rather than the rotating kind and the stainless steel looks cool.#1 – This Extra-Wide weighs far less than the appliance it’s replacing. This one feels cheap and flimsy. No real problem here since this device is not going to be moved around. Just don’t drop anything heavy on it. BTW a number of the “tamper-resistant” screws holding the top on were loose … easily taken care of, but perceptions are so far what they are.#2 – The spacing on the rack is far wider than the one on the toaster it replaced. This is a problem since I like toasting various types of bread slices and this newer rack is less supportive where the softer and thinner ones fall thru. If you have an older model with a rack with narrower spacing, you might want to keep it around.#3 – Placing a 12 inch round pizza in it is a very tight fit. The older model easily accommodated a 12 inch pizza pan … no problem.#4 – The Start/Stop button is exactly that, where the “STOP” function initially puts any cooking cycle on hold. The toaster oven will wait a short while on hold and eventually then turn itself off.The instructions recommend unplugging this appliance when it’s not in use. Doing this also puts all the setting back to default eliminating any setting you personally like and use. I’m guessing that the purpose of this is to save energy. Even when in the Off mode, it’s still drawing some electricity to keep the memory of any personal settings intact.Multiple plugging and unplugging, though, will sooner or later either degrade the plug, its power cord, or the electric socket it’s going in and out of…. If the power cord or plug gets damaged you can call their warranty department by pressing different buttons numerous times on your phone’s keypad. After you finally get someone who speaks real English, and they really understand what you’re saying, they should come over within a few minutes to complete all the necessary repairs to your total satisfaction…. Or you could get a DIY book out of your local public library on how to repair small electrical appliances and replace the cord and plug yourself – that is AFTER YOU REMOVE THE PLUG FROM THE ELECTRIC SOCKET. You might have a wee problem opening up this unit – there’s those “Tamper-Resistant” screws…. Or you can bring it to a local small appliance repair shop just in case you’d rather not get a charge out of playing with electricity or slicing your fingers off on stainless steel sheeting. You do have the phone numbers of your local hospital E.R. and ambulance squad handy?FWIW and IMHO – when washing any of the removable parts, try your best and don’t use any abrasive pads or cleaning products. You’ll just make it easier for the surfaces of these items to retain burnt on junk (carbonized sugars, etc.).
