Near perfect, missing one featureI have an Elite long slot pop-up toaster and a Gourmia 8 qt basket style air fryer. Those two have worked well and I’ve been happy with this setup. Still, I’ve always intrigued by the idea of a small super fast toaster oven.Counter space being limited I put the Elite pop-up toaster (crazy toaster, bread flies out of it) on the kitchen counter and my Gourmia air fryer in a back room. Both are always at the ready. Then I saw this deal and everyone raved so much I figured why not join the cult? I could get rid of the pop-up toaster and possibly the air fryer. Not so fast!Toasting: First impressions of the Panasonic, not overly impressed. The controls are a little wonky, but everyone knows this. It toasts more evenly than my pop-up toaster, but not incredibly so. Interestingly, my popup toaster is just as fast as the FlashExpress and easier to operate. There’s no real toasting speed advantage (both take about 2 1/2 minutes) with the Panasonic over a regular pop-up toaster, it just makes better toast.Space: I thought the FlashExpress would fit on my counter, but you need 4 inches clearance at the back, whereas the pop-up toaster is a cool touch and sits neatly up against the wall. Sure the FlashExpress is small for a toaster oven, but the pop-up toaster takes up much less space. I ended up putting the Flash in the back room next to my air fryer and countertop pizza oven.Reheating: The Gourmia 8 qt air fryer is a better toaster oven for reheating certain items. It’s just as fast if not faster and cooks more evenly and thoroughly. It’s also more flexible as you can put just about anything in it and cleanup is a breeze. For anything saucy/messy I use foil pans/sheets. (Pro tip: Buy some of those grill mats and cut them to the size you need, instant durable non-stick mat for your toaster oven or air fryer). 9 inch foil pans and foil sheets fit in both. Cleaning the Panasonic could be difficult and you have to watch those infrared rods (cheese or other dripping items). For leftover pizza, cold or frozen, I use the air fryer. I put the slice on a foil sheet and hit start. It goes into pre-heat, but that’s my cooking/re-heat cycle. When the sound goes off to add food the pizza is done and frequently over-done. I did the same with the Panasonic and selected 5 minutes. It was done in about 4 1/2 minutes. The air fryer was done in about the same, but I preferred the flavor and taste of the air fryer reheated slice. That said re-heating food is very good and easy in the Flash/Express.Cooking Time: It’s fast for toast, but what about frozen items? You can do a small 9 inch frozen pizza in the Panasonic in 12 – 14 minutes. I have a Wisco pizza oven that cooks up to a 14 inch pizza in 14 minutes. Again, Panasonic’s speed claims are based on comparisons to “toaster ovens”. In my early tests the FlashExpress is not much faster than a pop-up toaster or an air fryer, but I still like it.Warnings: There are many standard typical warnings, but here’s two that caught my eyeThe FlashExpress Owners Manual instructs not to “bake bread with butter or jam. There is a chance the bread will catch fire”. It’s an odd warning that your bread might catch on fire. How about this? “After use: Turn off the unit by pressing the power button, The lamp goes out. Remove the power plug.” Are you kidding? Every time you use it??? That’s just not happening. I’m not going to do that and I imagine most people don’t either. It’s probably a liability issue or maybe somebody’s oven caught fire just plugged in EEK!What I like:I do like that the toasting rack comes out when you open the door. It operates slickly and your food is easy to grab. Also, it does a really nice job toasting Mestemacher Vollkornbrot too. It’s that weird, flat, dense, super healthy German bread that is IMO only good toasted. Pop-up toasters are not very good for this type of bread because it can fall apart or get stuck in the toaster. With the FlashExpress you can carefully top your flat bread with whatever you like and toast for about 4 – 5 minutes. It’s outstanding for that. Also, the bright lights allow you to see your food so well it’s the perfect “melt” machine, you can get that tuna melt just right. Add cheese a half minute before being done toasting and it will melt to perfection. Reheating items is excellent too because this toaster oven gives you such a good view of what you’re cooking that you can stop it before overcooking. What I don’t like: It’s missing one feature. This toaster would be perfect if it had a broil or “bagel” function. Sometimes you want to toast only one side of bread or just melt with the top element. Sadly, you can’t do it as there’s no ability to cook with only the top element. You could use the pan to block the lower elements but it would be better if it had the controls to just shut it off.The lights are super bright and it is odd when they cycle and turn on and off over and over. When using the presets for toasting they stay on, but if you to a timed “bake” selecting temperature and time they cycle on and off. It’s like there’s a scientific experiment being performed. The manufacturer warns not to stare at the light rods, they say it’s bad for the eyes. I’ll defer to them on this one.In summary, it generally does what they say it does, and it has a very good track record. If you’re in the market for a small speedy toaster oven this is it (or the Breville Mini). I caught this deal and paid $84. I wouldn’t pay the $119 price. The FlashExpress is not replacement for an air fryer but some people don’t need an air fryer. I’ve been testing all kinds of food in it and I’m definitely keeping it. It’s interesting and a lot different than any other toaster oven I’ve used. It’s actually fun to use, something I would have never thought I’d say about a small appliance.

One of the BEST in Toaster OvenThis is my second Panasonic Toaster. Unfortunately the heating rod of the first one stopped working. But I assume, it was just bad luck. In terms of functionality, this toaster offers almost everything that is needed for daily use.PROS:1. Heats very well, instantly and quiet (with all the appliances in the house making noise, you don’t need another one with noise. It does beep at end, but its reasonably low sound)2. The controls allow for Toast function, or you can create your own heating function. Plus toast can be large small as they all fit. With regular toaster, the toast moisture is lost and the regular toaster heats the bottom of the cupboard3. With air fryers, the fan noise is too loud. So if you have open concept house, or small apartment, this is ideal small in size and no noise4. The frozen items heat very quickly. I can heat up a frozen chicken patty in less than 5 minutes. Normal oven has to heat up, then baking takes time and finally the cooling keeps the noisy fan on till its cool.5. Compact size, great for counter space6. There is no rotary timer, as in almost every single toaster oven. That is annoying as the dial remain on until complete. Else it has to be forced wound down. There are some digital toasters, but they are much more expensive7. Very good design and easy to cleanCONS:Though I did not find any cons, it would have been great of there was an option top get extra element/heating rod at the time of purchase that was reasonably priced. I purchased an additional warranty for $30 for 4 years. That will cover the replacement in case the heating rod fails.I think this is one of the best alternatives to a regular toaster available in market.

Best Toaster Oven Ever, PeriodThese are the fastest, most functional toaster ovens in the world, period. Pricier than some, less than others. Doesn’t have a built in air fryer and won’t hold an entire 30” pizza or whatever… but, if you make toast, or toast sandwiches, or need to re-crisp bacon, or do normal toaster things, THIS IS THE BEST TOASTER OVEN. Please note I gave “Ease of Cleaning” a one star because every toaster oven is NOT easy to clean, including this one. If the company does not want bad reviews, don’t ask silly questions… cleaning toaster and counter top ovens is always a pain in b¥¥t regardless of brand… However, when you simply ignore the little bit of burning bread crumb, cheese, and bacon fat that dripped off your last breakfast sandwich while your toasting up your current one, like a normal person, you will be delighted with how fast and evenly this thing gets your mobile meal hot and bubbly on top and the right amount of toasty on bottom, with perfect bits of crispy on the edges. Literally can’t recommend it enough. We move a lot, and this is the… 6th? 7? I’ve purchased after gifting my used one when I move from one to the next job. Get one of these if you toast stuff everyday. It will make you happy when you toast.

The Perfect Toaster OvenI wanted a toaster oven to avoid using our big oven for small items . Searching for one that fit into our crowded counter space, this one was one of the smallest and not that expensive. I read all the manufacturer’s information, watched their videos, and read many of the 1 and 2 star reviews before I decided to get one 6 weeks ago. Pluses: small foot print, no preheat, simple controls, and speedy toasting. When it came I read all the instructions and info on cooking various things in it. Then I kept a record of my experiments. No cookbook included, just cooking guides. Looked online for recipes for this oven, found a few and printed them out. After using it a while I learned a lot. Watch carefully as your food browns, it will go very fast once browning starts. Be prepared to experiment: making a personal 7″ or smaller pizza is easy. Roasting peppers is easy too. If the food is not cooked enough, put it back in and heat it some more. Line the oven tray with non-stick aluminum foil. Do not put anything that will drip onto the grid, use the oven tray or heat resistant cookware (metal or ceramic). I collected recipes and took notes. One recipe for roasted party potatoes takes 40 to 50 minutes in the big range oven. In this oven it took 25 minutes, saving a lot of power and heating up the kitchen. Controls are very simple to use. Bread toasts perfectly. Whole wheat bread takes the #4 setting. White bread the middle #3. Easy to try again if not as dark as you want, just be prepared to hit the power button to turn it off as soon as you have what you want. One reviewer did not like this oven because the door does not seal!!! Look at the door, it is made to have a gap so it will vent. ALL OVENS VENT. Your large kitchen oven vents, probably through one of the burners. They have to vent or they will fill with steam and vapors and odors.Super easy to remove the grid to clean it off, read the directions. Crumb tray easy to remove to clean off. After using this oven for a week I did what I should have done at the start — I looked online for reviews. I found a number of sites that rated this as the #1 toaster oven of 2020. Many rated it in the top 5 or top 10 of all toaster ovens rated.Con: you cannot cook food that oils or greases come out of, like steaks or bacon, unless it is wrapped in foil. The infrared lamps might ignite the hot oil that collects on the tray. You cannot use anything flammable like parchment paper (unless it is trimmed so the paper is not exposed to the radiant heat. I prepared a recipe for frozen home fries that is intended to be cooked in a skillet. They cooked crisp like French fries and took as long as it did in a skilled. Frozen French fries are great cooked in this oven. Corn tortilla chips should not be heated, they might ignite as they are dry and thin. Toasting biscuits or similar items is a snap. Bagels, flat breads, pizza crusts.Note: I wanted to use a small Pyrex dish I have in this oven, but the cautions on the package cautioned against toaster ovens. Called Corning about this IR lamp oven, they do not recommend using Pyrex in it as they have no experience with this type oven. Note: Since around 2000, Pyrex glassware is no longer heat resistant anymore. It is not the original borosilicate glass that Pyrex has been made from for the last century. Pyres is now soda lime glass, like regular common glassware, and not meant for hot ovens. I bought some small vintage Corning Visions cookware that fit in the oven. I can also use my vintage Corning Pyroceram cookware.I love this toaster oven, it is perfect for our needs. Quick and simple. Keep notes on the temperature and time settings you use until you get a good feel for different recipes. I prepare my 7″ pizza crusts with pizza sauce, toppings (putting soft or cooked things first, then raw veggies & mushrooms on top. Cook at 425F for 5 minutes. Remove tray and top with cheese. Then cook at 425F for 4 to 5 more minutes. Mozzarella melts beautifully and starts to get toasty brown. Just don’t leave during the last several minutes – watch carefully and be ready to hit the power button. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Love this oven. Oh, don’t put your hand in the oven while the flash lamps ore on – the radiant infrared will burn you instantly. I know this from working with infrared lamps in an R&D lab. Turn off the oven before you reach inside.

Small and powerful, but difficult to controlMy two-slice toaster finally died, so I decided to finally get a toaster oven. After a lot of research, I landed on this model – mostly for its low cost, small size, and high ratings. This is great for toasting bread and reheating leftovers, but not as great for baking things in small batches. We’ve tried to bake a few cookies and while it works, it usually browns the tops a lot more than a standard oven would…which makes sense given the small size and location of heating elements, but worth mentioning regardless. The crumb tray is easy to empty and the controls are simple once you use them a few times. It’s not the best looking appliance, but it’s small enough that it doesn’t stick out too much. If you’re looking for a daily workhorse to do the basics, get this toaster oven. If you want something with a little more heat control, I’d recommend spending a bit more and going with a Breville.

Very pleasedI can’t remember how many decades (and houses) ago I owned a toaster oven. Somewhere along the line I just bought a few toasters as needed. We have 2 slow cookers, a microwave, a regular oven of course, and that was quite enough. I resisted air fryers, one pots, and the bread maker has never been used. It’s been a year since our broiler in the oven stopped and……..one day I wanted to make English muffin pizzas. No broiler.Research/reviews are contradictory, but ultimately this is the one we chose. Boy, howdy. We’re delighted. Our two slot toaster with no crumb drawer has been tossed. This one handles more oddly shaped bread products, at least four pieces at a time. The inside light is very helpful. The timer seems to be perfect for what we want at the time.Today Husband bought some McDonalds home for himself. Those fries are only good in house, not takeout.WELL. Leftover fries are good as new. I believe he said, “How did we live all these years without one of these?” We know the limits of a microwave when flour products are involved. This means that Leftover Pizza will be a really good thing instead of heating up a whole oven or making do with tough seconds the next day.It doesn’t take up much space and it’s a perfect little doo-dad for making appetizers while making a turkey in the big boy oven.

Powerful and accurateIt’s still new and I’m experimenting with it but so far the results have been really great. Toast is impressively perfect. I’ve also made garlic bread and wrapped it in foil and it still turned out crispy and delicious. Ezekiel bread is very hard to toast, and this gets it right. I keep mine frozen so I pop it in on the rack and press the frozen waffle button, medium darkness setting.Besides toast, my favorite feature is that you don’t have to wait for the oven to pre-heat. Just pop the food in and it instantly gets to the desired temp, thanks to the infrared rays. They warn you against foods that splatter, so I just lightly cover things that could splatter with foil. No problem. The rays penetrate through the foil just fine. Also, they want you to unplug the unit when not in use. So I keep mine plugged into a Belkin power strip and turn the switch off when not in use so I don’t have to unplug the unit. Just my opinion, but I think it’s fine that way, as power is cut off to the toaster oven.I bought a cover for the Ninja Foodi Grill and it fits great.I’m looking forward to experimenting more with it over time. No more mushy leftovers heated in the microwave.

FINALLY a toaster oven CAN TOAST!I have endured a tragic series of horrendous toaster oven lifetimes. After each merciful death I tried a new brand, naively hoping for satisfaction. Oh NO. Each rivaled the last in being the stupidest, most godawful waste of engineering effort ever expended. My massive and most recent torturer, made by a formerly high-end French company, took ten minutes to effect any change at all on a slice of bread. The result was never the same twice, no matter how carefully I tried to manage the knob one had to turn each use to set the duration. It was invariable however in the way that it was always terrible: whether raw, burnt, or partially raw _and_ partially burnt! It clicked like a bomb timer in a cartoon and seemed perversely dedicated to burning human flesh.I am ashamed to admit I couldn’t even wait for the end of its natural lifespan — I gave to a neighbor’s son getting his first apartment. 😔 (Vis-à-vis this review… I’m pretty much hoping he doesn’t have Internet connectivity, or better yet, can’t read.)The FlashXpress heats in TWO ways at the same time, using both ceramic and quartz heating elements. It gets to temperature almost instantly, you don’t have to preheat at all. It gets incredibly bright — probably a good idea not to stare like DJT does at the sun — but I’m not tempted, so I can just enjoy the fact that it’s heating from the inside almost like a microwave and crisping from the outside at the same time. The second photo I took without flash in normal lighting. The intensity of the light so threw off the light balance of the camera that it looks like it’s in the dark! This Panasonic — I LOVE this thing.[NB: It meets some of my specific requirements beautifully, but if you have different desires it might not work so well for you.]Firstly, I live in a small space. Think of outfitting a ship.Second, I have an actual oven so I’ll never use this to make lasagna or multiple batches of cookies or roast a chicken, i.e., real baking.Thirdly, day to day, I often don’t feel like cooking (I live alone and can do whatever I want 😃) so I heat up a portion of something (like the items above) which I’ve previously frozen. It’s got a tiny footprint. It actually sits safely on top of my bubbler, so it robs me of zero zilch nada of my precious counter space. It toasts uniformly on both sides super fast. It melts cheese and heats single portions of frozen stuff like nobody’s bidnez. It automagically thrusts the grill rack slightly up and out when you open the door, and coming up on our 6 month thingiversary, it has yet to hurt me in any way. Now, if this were going to be your only oven, I would say nononono don’t get this. It doesn’t cook long enough, it’s presets are limited and it just won’t do a good job at cooking anything that needs to be particularly large, moist, low-temp, or slow. For me, it hasn’t quite been David Ortiz hitting a winning double-run homer in the 12th game 4 when you’re down 3 games in the series… but close. After all, my toast losing streak has only been around since the death of the upright steel toaster, sometime in the 70s. 😉

Excellent warranty by Panasonic was easy and honoredI really liked this toaster oven, but after 10 months one of the heating elements shattered – just a fluke thing. It was the upper one on the front. It was within the 12 month warranty and Panasonic made the return process really easy. The only downside was I had to ship it from CA to their return processing facility in FL, which cost me about $60 including a $12 pick-up charge to send it back UPS.The warranty gives you the option of a full refund or a replacement that they will ship to you for free. Unfortunately, they only had silver available and I wanted white, so I opted for the full refund. They’re mailing me a check. They actually had a human call me and he gave me a direct number to call back and I could do that without going through a voicemail hell.If you lived closer to Florida, it wouldn’t cost you as much, if you had to return it. He did mention that sometimes the problem is that people don’t keep them clean, so just a heads-up that they may not honor the warranty if you send them back a really dirty one. Mine was kept really clean. One of the things I really loved about this oven was how easy it was to clean. I’ll miss it. But, silver just won’t do in my white kitchen.I will say, though, too, that there are some limitations on how or what you should or shouldn’t cook in this oven that felt a bit limiting to me. For instance, it said buttered toast may catch on fire – although I did experiment with frozen garlic toast (Texas toast) and didn’t have any problems. But, the instructions make you a bit nervous about things you might want to use it for. I suggest you download the manual to see if it will serve your purposes.

Small but Mighty! As mentioned by some other reviewers, the rack is a little on the light side, but I like the fact that it latches onto the door, so it makes access easier and the chances of burning a hand or finger are greatly diminished. I am especially impressed with how fast and evenly bread is toasted, much quicker than the last larger toaster oven I had. I’ve also used it for homemade individual pizzas several times and the ridges on the tray that is included give the bottom crust a panini-like finish, very crispy but not burnt. Considering that I got this at a reduced price due to “open box” status (the unit was brand new), I am very satisfied with my purchase.
