Easy lunchesI love that I can load these after dinner with leftovers and pop them in the fridge. It’s easy to microwave in the morning and send them in the kids lunches. They are hard to open sometimes when the hot meal cools down and suction is created. We drilled a pinhole just below the lip of the handles that lets enough air in that the kids can open them at lunchtime. We can’t use them for soup or anything too liquidy, but it works for most meals.

A bit smallIt’s perfect for your soup if you are a slow eater like me. It is on the small side and the locking tabs are impossible to find when full and fresh out of the microwave. Other than that I like it.

Poor product description?I bought this product, which appeared to be listed as ‘New’ (I double-checked the listing), but when it arrived it was in a plastic bag with a sticker on it that said “Thanks for extending the life of this renewed product.” The plastic internal food jar has numerous (> 6) starbursts around the threads indicating that whomever had it before me tightened the lid way too tight too often. However, I can’t realistically call it ‘broken’ and I HATE the hassle of returning anything because I don’t leave the house. I would be hesitant to order another item for fear that the same thing would happen. I would suggest that Amazon speak to the listing agent about this so that it doesn’t happen to someone else. So, the thermos was extremely easy to hand wash and I’m sure, since its a THERMOS the outer sleeve will last forever, but I can’t speak to the inner food jar for the reasons previously mentioned. See the pic for what I’m speaking about. Thank you for taking the time to read this.Susan

My first one lasted 2 years! My son takes it to school almost everyday, I pack his lunch around 6:45am(warm up his pasta or whatever he wants in a separate dish and transfer it to the thermos) he says by the time he goes to lunch 11am it’s warm. Honestly I have never eaten out of this thermos to corroborate on his word but it comes back empty and my son will not eat cold food(some what picky eater). The only thing I will suggest is to not put it in the microwave(the plastic part) since with time it’s started to crack (not brake or fall apart), and even then it serves its purpose. My first thermos was bought at a grocery store 2 years ago and found here at amazon so I bought it again, same price too. I will definitely recommend it! I put pasta, soups, rice and beans, mini patties, fruits, veggies…..it’s worth the money. Oh my son goes to elementary he is 7 years old. It also fits perfect in his lunch bag.

Brilliant concept, poor quality and horrible part order solutionIf I reviewed this a couple weeks ago I would give it a 5 star; however, recent events changed that opinion. The concept here is brilliant. You can fill the inner liner with soup or something then put that in the fridge. The next day heat it up while you put hot water into the outer liner. Put the inner liner into the outer and you have a hot meal later in the day when settling down to lunch. We purchased one to give it a try and really liked it so we bought a second one. Then a couple weeks ago the plastic insert cracked. It wasn’t dropped or anything, it just cracked down the side.So we contacted customer service and got around to where we were told to buy a new piece. We’ve had the original one less than 6 months and the second one less than a month. We have no way to know which one broke so it’s on us to buy the part. That is frustrating enough, but they don’t have a website where we can make the purchase. We were instructed to reply to an email with the credit card details.I’m sure they are going to use it to process the order and nothing else. I can trust them … at least I want to say I can but I’ve never met them. That is a really bad idea though even if I knew I could trust them. I don’t know what their system is like but it absolutely will store emails as plain text. Is it going through SSL to secure the connection? What are the chances someone has or could hack this system? If they don’t have a better way to handle part orders then there is a BIG problem. Maybe this is a super rare occurrence but I kind of doubt it. If it was super rare they would have had a better warranty and just sent the replacement part instead of having us buy it in the first place. As much as I like the concept (so much that we had ordered a second thermos before this incident) I can’t recommend this product or any product from this company until they get with this millennium and make it possible to order parts securely.

Versatile food jar for food prep hot/cold- added convenience to basic food thermos(Added notes on Oct 2015)I’ve been using this food jar several times a week for 9 months now and really like it. I can prepare cold breakfast the night before in the plastic insert (eg: overnight oats, fruit salad), keep it in the fridge and pop it into the steel casing to go in the morning. I also use it for hot stuff (eg: hot oatmeal, soup, stew, scrambled eggs) which I prepare by microwaving in the plastic insert. This saves me on washing up extra bowls / pots. The plastic insert is quite sturdy. So far It has lasted fine with no cracks or warping (note: I hand wash the insert). Initially I was worried after reading about the experiences of other reviewers and ordered 2 extra plastic inserts from Thermos. However, I have not had to use them thus far.I have not had any difficulty with opening the jar, unlike other reviewers. I really like the convenience of having fewer utensils to wash up.This is just the right size for me at 12oz and the wide mouth is easy to fill / clean. I have other Thermos food jars at 16 and 10 oz which are better at keeping food hot, because of the full steel construction and better insulated lid. However, food can be warmed up again in the microwave if needed. The 12 oz size is the sweet spot – 10 oz is tad too small and 16 oz requires a long enough spoon to reach the bottom.

Great Design – Finally One That WorksI finally found the right product. The sleeve easily comes out with a simple turn and lift, and it can be microwaved and washed. Previous vacuum sealed canisters could not go through the dishwasher [water gets trapped inside], but this is fabulous! The insulated metal sleeve remains clean, so only the clear plastic and lid needs cleaning. [The metal sleeve only ever needs a wipe with a wet cloth, if its been handled with dirty hands. The container holds in heat and cold perfectly, and the clear container design allows me to see what’s inside, if I need to put it in the refrigerator. Also, I contacted Thermos, and they sent me additional clear containers at very little cost, as I thought someone threw one out accidentally. I can have one in the wash and put it right back to use the next morning. My kids can easily open the container as the clear handles also gives them something for leverage. I have yet to have a single leak [which was also something previous products had issues with.] It’s often tipped on its side and thrown into a punchbag or backpack. I absolutely love this product and it’s really held up. Very smart design.
