Does the jobI am writing this review in March 2022. I purchased this in August of 2021 for my daughter to use to take hot lunch to school. I follow the instructions and boil water, fill the jar for 10-15 minutes, and then put the hot food in. I pack her lunch at about 7am and she eats lunch at 11. She says it’s still warm when she eats her lunch. As others have mentioned, when you wash it or put it in the dishwasher, water does seep into the plastic piece in the bottom. And the lid is a little difficult to clean to make sure there’s no mold growth. I use a small wire brush to get in there and then I make sure to let it air dry. We ran into a minor issue last week, but it was quickly rectified. The rubber seal doesn’t stay in place on the lid. So when you remove the lid, it’s very difficult to turn due to the rubber seal turning as well. Then when you remove the lid, the rubber seal is around the opening of the jar. Amazon informed me that this product has a five year warranty, but that I had to contact Thermos. I contacted Thermos customer service and they’re sending a replacement seal. No questions were asked and no proof of purchase or product registration was needed. We’ve tried a variety of foods in the thermos. The ones that work the best are foods that can hold enough heat to stay warm and also take up space in the jar. For example, chef boyardee, macaroni and cheese or ramen noodles. My daughter lives grilled cheese sandwiches and quesadillas, but I just don’t think that it stays warm enough. (She says it’s still good but she’s 5 and if she wants to eat it, she doesn’t care whether it’s supposed to be warm or cold) Chicken nuggets, mozzarella sticks, and fries also work well.Overall, I’m pleased with this product. We’ve used it almost the entire school year about 2-3 times a week.

Really wanted to like this (Review updated 1/21/11)I dont know what I could be doing wrong. I tried this 5 times in 2 days and was very dissapointed. I am really stressing trying to find a good thermos that works for my daughter at day care. I dont microwave any of her food so I want to give her warm options at daycare. I read all the great reviews and thought this would be perfect. I boiled water put it in the cup for 12 minutes. Heated the pasta to very hot and after dumping the water out of the thermos immediately put the pasta in so I would not let any heat escape. I screwed the lid on tight and made sure it was on properly. 3 hours later the pasta is cold. What am I doing wrong?? It must be me since so many people have had good experiences. There are 4 hours between when I make lunch and my daughter eats there is no way this would stay warm for that long. I think maybe liquids would stay warm in this but not regular foods. Did I just get a faulty thermos? I really wanted to keep this its really cute to. My sister said stainless steel thermos’s never worked for her either, maybe I will try the plastic insulated kind.REVIEW UPDATE 1/21/11Instead of returning this item I had amazon replace it. I figured since so many people on so many websites gave this a good review that there must have been an issue with my food jar. I am not entirely convinced that every reviewers food jar worked I really doubt some tested it before they sent there child out with it. But like a said I ordered a replacement tested it last night 1/20/10 and it 4 hours later the food was still quite warm, perfect temperature for my 1 year old. So I think that maybe my original food jar had a faulty vacuum which if it fails will not keep food warm. I plan on testing it a few more times over the weekend before sending her out with it but it was warm at 2 hours and warm at 4 hours. My first food jar didnt even keep the food warm for an hour.Review update: 7/10/173 kids later this is still going strong. I have bought several versions since the original and they all work great. This is the only brand I have found that keeps the food warm for long periods of time. I always test a new thermos a di always make sure to heat it up.

Still Testing Bottle but seems to work pretty good*******PRODUCT REVIEW UPDATE: Have been using this at least once a week in my daughter’s lunch for the past 2 weeks now. Great thermos! Keeps food HOT for at least 4-5 hours. She said it was “too hot” when she opened it for lunch. I do the trick of pouring hot water in the thermos in the morning and put the lid on it and let it set for about 30 minutes. I then heat up her food pretty hot (not scalding) and then pour it in and reseal the lid. Last night I did a test. I put the hot food in and left it on the counter for 3 hours. Test: VERY HOT still. Then I put it in the refrigerator for an hour. TEST: still pretty hot. This Thermos has never leaked on us and it is put in my daughters lunch box sideways in a thermos holder. So far it’s been a fantastic high quality product.*************************************************I bought this thermos to give my daughter the option of bringing hot foods like spaghetti, spaghetti o’s, mac and cheese and leftovers to school and have a warm meal during cold days. I just got this a few days ago and have done my first test of it today. I heated up some chicken rice leftovers pretty hot in the microwave and then put it in the thermos and brought it to work. It’s been 4 hours and I just ate the food. It was warm. Not hot but not lukewarm either, a nice warm. I think if I would have left it 5 hours it would have been pretty luke warm. I’m going to try the hot water test and see how that works. I think it will be fine for my daughter because from the time I set the food in the thermos to the time her dad leaves and takes her to school and by the time she has lunch it should only be about 4 hours. I’ll give the hot water test a try and update my review later. As far as small hands opening this. It’s a little tricky. She can do it and we’ve practiced. I think with a little use it will get easier to open. She can open but she has a habit of holding it with both hands and tilting it sideways. I told her not to do that because then when it opens the soup or whatever is going to spill out everywhere. We are practicing opening it with her putting it flat on the table. If she has problems the kindergarten teacher will be there but I think she’ll be fine, just has to get used to it. I wouldn’t put the lid on super tight, it might be hard for little hands to open.High quality, nice looking and I have a feeling it will last us through a few school years. THERMOS makes a good product.

Like the thermosI’m using it to take hot lunch for my 4-year old. It’s working as keeping food warm for the last 3 months. I put boiled water in it for about 5 minutes and then put food in it, around 8am. I asked my daughter whether the food is still warm at noon, she said yes. It’s kind of small, but is the right size for my little one.Easy to clean. Although it says hand wash preferred, I still put it in dishwasher. So far so good. The bottom rubber used to stick with the body tightly but now it looses. It doesn’t fall out, but just can turn around without stick to the body. So I now have to hold the body and the lid to tight/open it. Don’t know if this was due to dishwasher or not.The only thing is that it doesn’t have sub containers. We tend to have a preference to separate rice/noodle from vegie/meat fries. What I did is to wrap those separately by foil paper so the food don’t mix. She carry another lunch box in her bag, so that she can take the food out and lay out in the lunch box before she eats. The lunch box is also for ice packs and fruits/yogurt etc. However, she is still young to pull things out of the thermos so her teacher needs to help her. But her teacher complained and suggested us to get other products which has sub-containers. I’m trying Zojirushi.Other than that, I love this product.

Perfect sizeI enjoy my Lunchbots stainless steel containers and my To-Go-Ware stainless steel round tiffins but added this to my lunch kit collection. It fits nicely in my tactical bag (UTG tactical which is comparable to a Maxpedition Versipak one model up from the Fatboy) but should fit nicely in the Maxpedition Thermite Versipack I just bought through Amazon.com. Easy to use wide mouth easy to clean no food waste eitherUpdate 10/27/2012:I’ve been using this product a while now and wanted to share my updated review. Before packing hot foods in this jar, I fill it with piping hot water to pre-warm the jar; this keeps the food hot for when I eat it for lunch. If I use the jar for cold foods including a small salad, I put the jar in the freezer while I prepare the cold foods; it stays cold all day even if I don’t have time to eat the food. There are many great products in the market, but this fits my needs with the smaller 10 ounce size.UPDATE 12/6/2014:I am still using this container and its use ranges from hot food, cold food to hot tea I brew before taking off from home. It has not degraded, deteriorated in quality or function one iota. Amazing. I put this container through a lot (tossing, not washing right away, stuffing at the bottom of my ruck under heavy gear) but it’s still brand new. Glad I bought this little item. Perfect size for me.

Over 3 years and in perfect condition, kids’ use.I’ve had 5 of these for my family for over 3 years, mostly being used by elementary school children. They are all still in perfect condition with no mold or damage whatsoever. I remove the gasket and stick all 3 parts in the dishwasher. I think I’ve even removed the bottom colorful plastic piece because just one of them got some water in there. They’ve been dropped without denting and definitely had food left in them over the weekend once or twice, and still came clean with no mold. My kids say their food is still warm at lunch. In the beginning I’d fill the thermos with hot water, cover, and then dump out when the hot food was ready to go in, but I haven’t done that in a long time and the food is still warm-hot when they eat it. So very pleased with this product, it has stood the test of time for sure! I trusted the Thermos brand to be great because they’ve been around so long and this product proved that to be true.

Great product for lunchesLeak proof? Check. Keeps food warm until lunch? Check. Easy to clean? Check. Not dishwasher safe according to package, so haven’t tried it, but it is so easy to clean I’m not trying to test my luck. Even the “stain” of spaghetti sticks to the plastic. Just make sure you realize this is for KIDS. It’s not a huge thermos intended for a whole can of Campbell’s Select soup… comfortably fits half a can of spaghetti-os.
