DJI FPV Drone 1st Flight! “Don’t let your Ego write checks that your A** can’t cash!”First Flight impressions from a long time Phantom and Mavic pilot of the FPV drone. I’ve been flying a Phantom since getting a Phantom 2 back in 2014. I’ve flown extreme environments on the open ocean and from over 10,000 feet at the caldron of a volcano. I’ve become quite comfortable with using those DJI drones. I’ve gained trust in the DJI flight software and capabilities of the drones. Because of that, I’ve been able to capture some beautiful moments in my travels that I could never have imagined without drone photography. I learned to fly manual on toy drones in the beginning, but, quickly adapted to DJI’s GPS technology. After 3 batteries today I find the FPV to be a familiar performing DJI drone, however, it demands respect.Extremely fast even in “Normal” mode, the FPV is very responsive compared to any Phantom or Mavic. Care should be taken, if like myself, you’ve never used Goggles and losing sight of the drone before takeoff is a little disconcerting. Your seeing everything through the Goggles that the drone see’s, a’la, First Person View. The Goggles transmission is so crystal clear it’s like your using your own eyes and suddenly your wondering why you can’t move your head to see the drone? In the air it shoots to 62 mph in “Sport” in a thought. No buildup or lag, it’s a Ferrari compared to Phantoms and Mavics. Be respectful of that acceleration and speed. I would recommend getting it a 100 feet or more above the tallest thing you might hit and fly it around. Bank it, dive and climb. The Goggles are so crystal clear you literally feel like a bird in the sky. It’s so good some banks and turns gave me a twinge of motion sickness. The illusion of flight is real!Flight time was about 12 minutes for me with each of 3 batteries. Of course, I was flying in “Sport” as fast as it would go untill the battery level got low. There is no 30% warning default like a Phantom or Mavic of low battery. Keep a close eye on your battery before the FPV goes RTH on you for low battery. Good news is that my 1st battery was fully charged in 30 minutes from 20% and ready to use after my third battery was used up.Goggles are very impressive! WoW! So clear and immersive. The Ocusync 3.0 is really good. No interference or latency at over 6000 feet from my position. Really impressive range in any direction. This drone is not a marathon runner like a Mavic Pro or Phantom 4 Pro 2.0, but, it’s not because it would lose connection. At all times the transmission of video from the drone to the Goggles was perfect! I saw a buzzard in the air riding the current and I got close, it seemed like it was really next to me. I’m blown away by these FPV Goggles!I also got to see the the ADS system in operation as it alerted me a aircraft was approaching. It’s frightening when you 1st see it in your Goggles! I stopped the drone, never saw the aircraft and kept the FPV low. I’m not sure how far away a aircraft has to be before it’s triggered but I never saw or heard a plane. The system definitely works, just don’t panic when it happens and put your FPV in “Normal” mode and keep your altitude low.I know that FPV drone flight is like a art form for FPV pilots. It takes hours and months of practice and flying to become competent and only a few can fly like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. However, that’s the trap you must avoid if like myself, you’ve only flown Phantoms and Mavics. The DJI FPV drone is familiar in alot of ways, just don’t start thinking it’s the same. It’s not. It’s very quick and fast with extremely responsive movement. I know I’m going to be using the DJI Fpv simulator for some time before I begin entertaining thoughts of putting my FPV in manual mode. And when I do, I’m hoping to fly above a field of marshmallows. Finally, my first day flying the DJI FPV drone was Epic! I haven’t felt this excited about a drone or as anxious about what would happen since the first time I flew my Phantom 2. It’s capabilities as a video centric camera is limited only by the pilots imagination and skill. Just remember the immortal words of the Instructor to Maverick in Top Gun, “Don’t let your Ego write checks that your A** can’t cash!” (and if you do, I hope you got Care Refresh)

A dream come true for a breathtaking FPV flying experienceThe DJI FPV drone itself is absolutely remarkable and once you’ve become experienced enough to fly with confidence, the view of the world around you changes. Each flight is a thrill and with the immersive view of the DJI FPV goggles, you’ll never have a dull moment. Everyone I’ve shown this to has always had the experience of a lifetime and it never fails to wow kids to fully grown adults. Now here’s where my issues lie with the DJI FPV drone. DJI claims that this drone can fly up to 10 miles, but from all of my experience flying this drone, you’re lucky to get one or two before the signal begins to deteriorate and causes you to lose signal. Usually after a couple seconds, you’ll get a signal back, but if you’re flying this drone over water, around mountains, or any other kind of hazardous terrain, you better pray that the signal comes back in time because if it doesn’t and the drone is in any other mode but normal, you’re in trouble. The drone has an automatic return to home feature if it doesn’t detect anymore incoming signals but again, only after some time has gone by will that feature kick in.As of right now, the battery life on the drone is extremely short, lasting only 10-20 minutes max on a full charge with 20 minutes being in perfect conditions and very minimal flying. If you have the fly more combo which includes 3 batteries, this can be looked past and I’m sure flight times will improve with future revisions to this model. However, if you’re looking to fly for long periods of time without the need to land, you won’t find that currently available. Charge time for the batteries is around 30 minutes or so which is pretty fast so if you’re close to a nearby outlet, you’ll be fine. Just don’t plan any long adventures out in the wilderness if you don’t have any kind of power stations nearby. The camera is an extremely wide angle lens shooting in 4k up to 60fps. It has different profiles that can be selected in the menus for better post production touch ups if you wish. The controls can take a bit of getting used to if this is your first drone experience. If you’re an avid gamer, throw any experience you think you have of flying in the garbage (gta, any game with helicopters or drones). There’s 3 different profiles you can choose for how the thumbsticks operate the drone, but none of them give you that classic flying experience you’ve grown accustomed to in every single video game that has the same inputs. In all seriousness, this is something that DJI could easily do, but just didn’t… It doesn’t take too much time to get get used to, but to become a confident pilot, you have to spend a decent amount of time growing accustomed to the new setup. You’ll also need to purchase a micro sd card separately, one with extremely good write speeds otherwise you won’t be able to record any of your flights. You can also record your flights off the goggles too which is extremely useful in case something happens to your drone. If you have an accident with your drone, you’ll at least have the footage recorded off the goggles for evidence. Now this is where my gripe with this model really lies. It actually lies more so with DJI itself than the model. If you wish, DJI offers a care plan (insurance) for the drone upon activation. I knew I’d most likely need it since this drone is designed with pretty intense aerial maneuvers and flights in mind based upon the thrilling trailers they pain stakingly created. However, if you lose this drone, whether it’s your fault or not, the insurance is useless. There have been a number of users who have operated this drone and have lost their drones due to weak/dropped transmission signals which is suppose to be covered under the DJI care plan. However, DJI ALWAYS blames it on user error, regardless of any proof you may have that says otherwise. So if the drone is unrecoverable, you’re SOL. If you can manage to recover the drone though, you can breathe a sigh of relief since the care plan doesn’t care how you damaged it, just so long as you can provide the body. The insurance costs around $250 and a replacement drone will once again charge you around that same price which is better than repurchasing the entire thing again. So in conclusion, the experience of flying a DJI FPV drone is absolutely incredible, a game changer, a thing of beauty. Their customer service however is not. It took nearly two weeks of extremely delayed responses/incorrect instructions to finally receive a verdict on my drone which was lost in a crash due to a lost signal just for them to come back and say it was due to user error when it was due to a lost signal (I was barely a mile away). I do recommend this product because the experience itself is a dream come true, but be forewarned and extremely careful not to lose the drone.

Amazingly fun…VERY intuitive for someone with ZERO flight experienceI purchased this kit and added on the Stick Controller and had a blast with this thing! I have had my kids flying it around within 30 seconds grasping the basics of flight maneuvering. The safety features and technology are incredible. I thought about building my own but am so glad I paid a little extra for all the added on features that come with DJI stuff. Highly recommend. I rated the Battery Life a 4….the controller and goggle batteries are great the charge lasts a long time. However the drone battery last 15-20 minutes tops!! This is always a challenge, but that is what I consider the weak point of this drone.

Outstanding drone for a beginnerI purchased this drone a couple of weeks ago. No issues with shipment. Great little drone for a beginner. I must emphasize that I am a complete beginner and so these are just my thoughts. It’s so easy to use I had my kids flying it within 30 minutes.Tips/recommendations1. Charge all your batteries prior to usage.2. Firmware updates for Drone and Batteries.Try to do this at home prior to going out and flying cause this could cost you time and battery power. I initially tried to update the firmware and the update kept crashing on me. I had to reboot my iphone a couple of times to get the firmware properly loaded on the drone. It took approximately an hour to download an update. I found the process to be extremely frustrating. Also the intelligent batteries that you purchase will require firmware updates. It only took a minute to do it.2. I’d recommend buying at least 2 more batteries. Flight time during cold temperatures (35 F and below) goes down to about 10 minutes flight time. Also once the batteries hit 30% it goes into RTH (Return To Home) Mode which I do not like. The drone will ascend and then you have to click on the Cancel option to cancel and fly back which is a little bit annoying. During warmer temperatures (75 F) flight time can go up to approximately 15 minutes. I wish they’d come up with a battery for this drone that would last about 30 minutes that would be awesome.3. TrainingDownload the DJI Virtual Flight app from the App store (Iphone). I thought the DJI Virtual Flight app was half way decent. It takes you through the motion of connecting the Goggles, Remote Controller and Iphone. You’ll need an Iphone “Lightning to USB” Cable to connect the goggles to the Iphone. Managed to connect it to an Iphone 12. I started my flight training in “Normal” mode and there were a couple of things I had to get use to. Namely the angles at which you’re flying at. Make sure you keep your head straight while flying otherwise your head will start spinning. I had to really focus on this while training. Train, train, train before you physically fly the drone.Once you’re ready to physically fly pick a big open space and just fly the drone without the goggles, just to get use your surroundings. I had my kids fly it this way prior to putting the goggles on.Do some flight pattern training flying in a rectangle, square, S, circle etc and you should be good to go.I wish the DJI Virtual Flight app had some more training tips like how to fly around obstacles and more flight challenges etc.4. Get a good case for storage. It becomes a bit of a pain to transport. I’ve been using a card board box.5. Get micro SD cards for the goggles and the drone.6. I also purchased DJI care refresh which cost about $212 with tax. So will see if I need it.7. Incoming Aircraft Sensor – This works great. There were times I did’n’t even see the aircraft and the sensor picked it up quite impressive.

Came messed upI gotten this drone used (good condition) but when I received it i was missing extra probs and the battery pack/ cable for the goggles also one of the drones foot was broken and for some stupid reason when i took off (yes i had it in normal mode and calibrated everything) it wanted to go backwards i tried giving it more throttle but it just flipped backwards and broke the rear probs but geuss what now i gotta wait 2 weeks because someone doesnt know how to check orders and put the extra parts back in 🤦🏽

Awesome Drone! It’s a really good drone for beginners and experts. It has a vr drone software that you can practice with the goggles and the remote control, so you can get a better understanding of the controls and the drone itself. Battery will last you about 7-9 minutes of flight time, something I wish it lasted a little bit longer. But otherwise it’s a really fun drone to use. I think its worth the money.

Its a great experience to fly with djiI didn’t like the battery output insufficient. Warning

Great droneI’ve read and watched a lot of comments about the DJI FPV saying that you get dizzy after or during a flying session, and they are right, however if you go slow on this drone , you’ll get dizzy, but if you fly the drone fast or really fast it won’t happen to you, but you really need to learn how to fly it very well before going fast, otherwise you’ll crash this drone

Not cheap, but so far it’s everything I hoped forI’ve been into flight-related things most of my life. Been to Space Academy when I was younger, took some general aviation flight lessons, follow all kinds of aviation-related things… I always wanted to have fun with a small drone, and I also wanted to make it as immersive as possible. I did a bunch of research and decided to bite the bullet and spend the money. I know that there are other FPV drone kits that definitely would have been cheaper. I’ve always had a philosophy of trying to by the best tool for the job that I can afford though, and this seemed to be it. Admittedly, I went ahead and spent a bit extra for the extra battery kit and the motion controller, and I definitely don’t regret those because my experience would otherwise be limited and much less fulfilling.Well, I’ve done about a dozen flights in total now, myself piloting about 2/3 of those and my 12-year old son piloting a few himself. We’re careful and supervise each other to ensure we don’t crack this thing up while we’re learning. So far, I’m loving it and I have some great video footage where I can see for miles around our rural landscape. This isn’t a toy nor something to try without a healthy respect for what it can do and the limitations one should follow. With that said, it’s a whole lot of fun and a bit of an awakening of new perspectives on a place that I’ve lived for a decade and a half. If you can afford it, this is a great kit and a great way to get into FPV drones. I would have given if 5-stars if it were just a bit less expensive.
