I have tried many methods for HST that claim to be the easiest way and that render squaring unnecessary… I have found that these methods lead to more excess waste, are more tedious etc. personally I have fount that the tube method is the easiest and then to square them. It provides the most consistent HST. My only “gripe” is that I wish it had marks to do odd size HST

Saw this demo’ed on a Corey Yoder video. The directions and illustrations for use were easy to follow and understand. The very thin cutting slots worked perfectly. This will now be my go-to ruler for trimming half-square and quarter-square triangles.

I made 1/2 square triangles the old fashioned way and always had trouble squaring them up. This tool is the best thing ever. I took it to a quilting class and the instructor went & told the shop owner to put them in stock. You can create LOTS of HST very quickly; and if desired, quarter square triangles too. It has basically 3 templates. One for marking your stitching lines; you run your marking pencil or ball point pen thru the groove and make your marks. THe other side has a groove for your rotary cutter. You line up your two stitching lines, and the cutting groove is in between; and you Zip thru with your rotary cutter. The center X and slots are for squaring up; you press your fabric open flat after accomplishing the first two tasks, and then square up. Be sure to turn /rotate your piece and square up on all 4 sides. It goes quickly and is great for someone who likes to knock out a bunch of squares ! I’m very pleased with this and can’t wait to get all my stash reduced to a more manageable size with the help of this gadget. I do have a concern with regards to the shipping of this however. It was packaged with a couple other items, fortunately everything arrived, however the box was completely open at one end and the potential for everything to have slid out was very real and I am amazed that only my paperwork was missing, assuming that there was paperwork i.e. receipts, invoices, packing slips sent along.
