Great machine, easy to set up. I like that the sight gauge sticks out a little from the side of the unit. I have mine next to another appliance, and this feature allows me to fill it without having to move it around every time. I have brewed a pot, left the house, and come home hours later and still been able to enjoy a fresh, hot cuppa joe. The only negative thing about this, and why I can’t give 5 stars, is that the carafe does tend to let a drop or three of coffee dribble down the front, AFTER you’re done pouring. Not earth shattering, but you either have to put it on something when you set it down, or wipe the coffee spot away afterwards.

We purchased this B&D Thermal Coffee Maker just over a month ago and we will never go back to a glass decanter. Coffee stays steaming hot for up to 5 hours and warm up to 12 hours. Amazing! It doesn’t taste burnt because it doesn’t sit on a hot burner for hours like the old style coffee makers. No more worry of leaving an empty pot on the burner or having to reset the timer every couple of hours to keep your coffee hot.
The only thing that would have been nice is a lit backscreen. Other than that, we highly recommend it.

Coffee brews great. Water dispensary is a great design. The programmable feature could be better. You don’t know when you have selected the program button unless you look at the screen, very small icon. Would have been nice to have it’s own LED light to show when the unit is actually programmed, similar to when the unit is brewing (blue light) The other concern is with the rubber feet on the coffee maker. When you put the carafe back in it’s place, the whole unit slides with it. 2 handed job. One to hold the base & 1 to place the unit back.

Tl;dr: After six years, our old B&D coffee maker still worked but the gasket around the carafe lid wore out, and there’s no way to replace it. Six years of dependability was good reason to just go ahead and replace it with another one just like it, and we’re very happy with the new one.
To address some of the bad reviews here:
— The reason the carafe was filling with grounds was either because they didn’t use a filter or used the wrong size/shape of filter. It helps to read the directions.
— The reason the water was building up in the filter basket instead of running through is because they were using a fine espresso grind with a drip coffee maker. You can see that it’s espresso from the photo they provided. An espresso grind is very powdery and needs pressure to push the water through, so it’s not going to work with a drip coffee maker. Again, it helps to read the directions.
— It’s true that this machine doesn’t make the coffee quite as hot as other machines we’ve had, but – for us – it’s hot enough. Still have to wait a bit after pouring for it to cool down before drinking unless we add a good amount of cold cream, which results in a ‘just right’ temperature for us. But yeah, if you like your coffee scalding hot, this is not the machine for you.
What we like about this machine, aside from its durability and dependability:
— The insulated carafe keeps coffee hot for several hours.
— No heating mechanism beneath the pot means never tasting burnt coffee. (shudder)
— Pre-programming is an amazingly nice feature.
Okay and what we don’t like about it is that the “No Drip Perfect Pour Spout” is a lie. Yeah, you heard me, Black & Decker. A lie. In six years, you’d think if there was a trick to it we’d have figured it out by now. The new machine’s carafe is even drippier than our old one. No worse than any other lidded carafe, mind you, but it’s pretty annoying that it’s listed as a feature. Nope nope nope.
Bottom line: Would absolutely recommend this coffee maker. It is well worth the price.

I’ve bought over 2,000 products via Amazon and this one makes me happy… every morning. Of course I’m talking about my BLACK+DECKER 12-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker! Let me get a few specific items out of the way. I want to address some specific questions that others have been asked and the answers that left me with questions still.
1. NO, it does not come with a reusable coffee grind filter basket. YES, you can purchase one here on Amazon that fits perfectly and does a great job (I bought the GOLDTONE Reusable 8-12 Cup Basket Coffee Filter for a little under $8.00).
2. Read this one carefully! The unit comes with a anti-drip or “stop” basket. This basket allows you to get a cup of coffee before the brew cycle is complete by automatically closing a spring-loaded valve when you remove the carafe (thermos) from the coffee maker to pour a cup of coffee. There is also a spring loaded valve in the carafe lid that, when the carafe is in the coffee maker, the spring is depressed and allows coffee to flow from the basket into the carafe and, when removed from the coffee maker, this spring closes, thus sealing the carafe so that your coffee stays warm in the thermos. Both of these spring-loaded valves can become clogged with rogue coffee grinds (especially if you use paper liners and they are not properly seated in the bottom or sides of the coffee filter basket and a few grinds end up on the outside). If this happens, you might experience overflow and get water on your counter. This is easily avoided by simply removing the basket from the coffee maker itself and washing after use (it lifts right out). Just be sure to depress the spring-loaded part when rinsing to make sure that no grinds are clogging the drip hole. Similarly, when cleaning the carafe (thermos) lid, depress that spring-loaded valve, and make sure water runs freely through the lid. This is a NORMAL thing to do when cleaning a coffee maker after brewing a pot, so I’m not real sure why there are issues, but these steps are not specific to this coffee maker and are standard cleaning practices.
3. This coffee maker uses flat-bottom filters… NOT cone filters!
4. NO. The carafe does not sit on a heated plate. The carafe is insulated like a thermos, but if you let your coffee sit for more than a couple of hours, you will need to (dare I say!) microwave your coffee. Do not be tempted to re-run brewed coffee back through the machine as it will eventually gunk up the innards! It does help to pre-warm the thermos before brewing. Simply pour in the cold water to your coffee maker first. Then, using very hot water, fill up the thermos, put the lid on and let it sit for 5 – 10 minutes. Then pour out the hot water and start the brew cycle with the empty carafe in place. Your coffee will stay hotter, longer.
5. TIP-TIME! I find that using a re-usable coffee grind basket saves me $$ (aside from the obvious of having to buy paper filters). This coffee maker comes with a feature to brew STRONG and BOLD coffee (settings to increase the strength of your coffee by lengthening the brew cycle by a few seconds, therefore allowing the grinds to steep a bit longer). The usual ratio of normal coffee is 1 TBSP of coffee for each two cups of water. If I choose BOLD (which is the highest setting – normal –> Strong –> Bold), I can use 5 TBSP to 12 cups of water and still get a strong, great-tasting brew.
6. Bonus TIP! You can use even less coffee, and get better flavor, if you grind your own beans. Either grind them just prior to making your coffee, or grind them at the local grocery store if they have the machine to do so. Coffee oils are sensitive to time. The fresher the grind, the richer the taste.
7. Bonus TIP #2! Use COLD water! Never brew using hot water from the tap… I’m not Millennial enough to suggest that you use bottled water (those who drank from water hoses as a kid will get that reference), but the quality of your water will make a difference in the taste of your coffee. Nuff said.

We’ve been quite disappointed in this coffee maker for its 95.00 price. I wanted the metal carafe which this has. My cuisinart also had this type of carafe…the difference ? This coffee maker does not make hot coffee. Pour that first cup and it’s very warm but not hot. This is a 12 cup maker but if you put say 1 tablespoon coffee for every 2 cups, and only make 8 cups the grounds overflow into the pot and in the holder so you clean it rise it every time which is crazy, and all those grounds in your coffee…and yes that is with a paper filter. Just unhappy. I will go back to the other pot at 69.95 it was perfect for a year.
