I took a chance and bought both of the larger knives good for chopping from this brand. The Nakiri is absolutely beautiful and has a nice balance and weight. It comes sharp right out of the box. The handle has a full tang to ensure the handle never breaks. I wish companies would not place their logo and catch phrases on their products. The packaging is really fancy. Each box has an outer sleeve and an inner box. The box has at least (3) neodymium magnets for the flap. They should have taken the money put into the packaging and used that money for the product, but overall it is a good value for the money.

I already own and love 2 Cutluxe knives (Cleaver & Bread Knife) so when I saw this, I had to order it. While I use those 2 knives occasionally, I don’t have a great need for a cleaver or a bread knife. But I am always interested in a good chef knife as I use those on a daily basis.
It comes in an elegant box and would make a nice gift. A polishing cloth and care manual are included but I see no mention of them in the product description. The manual provides tips for cleaning, storing, and sharpening the knife.
Back in the day when I was a professional chef, I would have been happy to include either of my 2 other Cutluxe knives in my knife roll. This Nakiri knife would make a fine addition as well. It is a quality, full tang, stainless steel knife that holds an edge rather well. It is well-balanced and has a good feel to it. The handle is easy to grip.
This knife arrived just in time for lunch, and I tested it by shaving some paper-thin slices of roast beef and tomato for a sandwich. It did the job nicely since it arrived razor-sharp. It was a pleasure to use and might just supplant my Santoku knife as my favorite chef knife. However, I’ll need to get used to it first. The blade design is considerably more rounded than either my Santoku or my French chef knives (neither is Cutluxe brand) making it a little awkward to use. But this won’t be a problem after a few uses as I adjust to it.
The price is excellent making it a great value.

This knife is from the Cutluxe “Artisan” series of reasonably priced and beautifully designed kitchen tools. It is a Nakiri knife.
A Nakiri is a classic Japanese knife with a straight, symmetrical edge designed for vegetables. With a Nakiri you slice straight up and down rather than push and rock as with a Chef’s knife. A Nakiri knife has a thin blade for clean cuts. It is perfect for celery stalks, carrots, onions, leeks, zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant, and other vegetables. The blade lengh on this specific knife is seven inches, giving you excellent movement control.
This Cutluxe Nakiri is made of 4116 German high carbon stainless steel. This type of steel is often used for low to moderately priced kitchen knives and medical tools. Although it is not the hardest steel around, researh reveals it is a recognized winner. It is corrosion resistant, has good edge retention, and sharpens easily. Likewise, the Pakkawood handle is a good choice for the kitchen.
Pakkawood is highly resistant to heat and moisture and often used on expensive knives. Just know that this knife’s handle is a bit beefier than those on some classic Chef’s knives. I included a photo comparison so you can see. The knife is also a bit heavier than some Japanese Nakiri knives. A heavier Nakiri is not necessarily a bad thing. It makes cutting thick foods like pumpkin, potatoes, and carrots a little easier.
After receiving this knife I ran it through a vegetable cutting test. I sliced, diced, and chopped a variety of vegetables for soup on a wood cutting board. Because the Nakiri has a large vertical surface I easily scraped up vegetables and transferred them to the pot. I must say, I enjoyed the experience. The knife was sharp out of the box, felt comfortable, and was a pleasure to use. In fact, it was actually fun. Did it get the job done? Yes, effortlessly.
Given the beauty, construction, and utility of this knife I believe it is a great value and feel confident recommending it. With a lifetime warranty from Cutluxe you can’t go wrong. This Nakiri knife provides much bang for the buck and therefore I rate it five out of five stars.
Note: The knife is provided with a clear vinyl sheath for storage, care & catalog booklet, contact information, coupon for 20% off your next order and a small cutlery cloth.

One of the things I like to do is order knives off Amazon and try them out. Kitchen knives, outdoor knives, whatever.
So as always I was excited to try this knife out. For reference, by standard set of knives against which I compare most things in my kitchen are my Shun Elite set.
Right off the bat, I don’t know how they sell this knife at this price point. Honestly it seems like it should be at least 3x more expensive, given the feel of quality here. No joke I immediately just wanted to take some vegetables out of the refrigerator and just start chopping.
You get 4116 steel here, which is on the low-end of steels but is not “junk” steel by any means. It’s a popular German steel made by Thyssen-Krupp and is all over the knife world. Standard stuff and can be found in a range of price points.
The feel here is great. Very nicely weighted for it’s purpose, which is dicing/chopping vegetables (this is not a “sawing” or even really a “slicing” type knife).
In box along with the knife came a nice set of instructions (just general advice/care tips/etc), a little bag to protect the knife while being transported (and a plastic sheath, which you don’t always get with knives).
Overall GREAT knife at this price point. If you’re looking for a Nakiri knife and aren’t ready to make the plunge for something pricier, this works just fine.
