I’ve owned poultry shears before so I’m familiar with how they work. This one was working well at first but then it started to almost gets stuck mid cut. I use it to clean my chicken so I’m wondering if after using it for so long the chicken starts to restrict the cut. I’ll probably go back to my old poultry shears

These shears replaced a cheaper pair I had and was an immediate improvement. The old pair struggled to cut through chicken bone and were uncomfortable to use. With metal going through the handle, these shears make light work of poultry and they’re easy to separate and clean.

There is no type of coil resistance, you have to manually open the scissor then close it to cut and only one side has an opening to stick your fingers in, no, not very ergonomic at all. If you had to cut fish or chickens all day you would get carpal tunnel.

I use these to process chicken and quail. I could do without the bottle opener on the bottom. If you open too wide, they will come apart. Excellent for processing quail, chicken. Will cut through bone and cartilage easily. I like the cushion grip on the handles. I use these for quartering poultry and cutting the breastbone.

These shears work great….until they don’t. I help my 15 year old son out with his chicken plucking business. We pluck a lot of birds and I do the knife work. I had another set of shears that didn’t have the finger guards and they were way to slippery. These shears are easy to handle, very easy to clean and don’t slip off my fingers. I got them in May and they broke in early August. Granted, we have processed almost 1000 chickens in that time but I expected these shears to last longer. The weak point is the little spring inside. It snapped for no apparent reason. I will look up the warranty and see if it is honoured.

So I have used these so far just on cutting the back bones out of whole chicken to do splayed chicken and also to cut apart for chicken pieces for baking and frying . They were so good and with very little effort on your part . I would not only recommend them to others but am considering buying a second pair to have at our summer place !

After seeing a YouTube video on how to cut whole chicken in under a minute, I decided to buy these scissors. Once they arrived they looked like the real deal, but the real test came when I took out the chicken. I may not have cut up my chicken in under a minute, but it did feel like cutting through butter (ok, fine, maybe a bit tougher than butter, but not by much). Even though I still can’t cut a whole chicken in under a minute, I’m sure on well on my way thanks to this pair of scissors. I definitely recommend!

I’m left handed and the fit in my hand felt weird. I didn’t feel like I could get enough leverage to cut well. But they work great for my husband who is right handed.

After reading some reviews, it is clear that some people do not understand the intended purpose of these shears. These shears are excellent for breaking down chicken: I spatchcock (remove the back bone) of a chicken each week and roast it for meal prep. I remove wingtips and chop up the back bone to make stock. I got tired of using basic kitchen scissors or a serrated knife for that purpose. These shears cut through bone/joints/wing tips like butter.
The crook at the base of the blades are somewhat tough and blunt, and is intended to snag the bone without slipping off, and cut through with leverage without growing dull. However, the relative dullness of this section and the shape do not allow for that smoothly gliding point of edge to edge contact that is needed for slicing through thin, durable items like plastic packaging or even the chicken skin. The actual scissoring portion of the blade is relatively short, only the first two inches or so at the front, and if you start with the item at the very back of the blades in the crook, the item will spread the blades apart slightly so they do not cut. You can use those first two inches for cutting through thin, tough items, but it is not the most efficient tool for that purpose if you will be doing that a lot. If you only plan on chopping up veggies, boneless breast, steak, pork, food packaging, you are better served with a regular pair of kitchen shears, chef’s knife, or even office scissors. If you break down a lot of chicken and save the bones for stock, as I do, then these shears are indispensable.
