Grinder Mechanism is superiorSo, Happy to find artisan quality products are still being made. No Chinese junk I just tossed out and spend the same amount of money on into the trash can.The Olive Wood is beautiful and will be used daily. And handed down to the children’s children.

Beautiful and functionalI really love this salt mill. I bought the matching pepper mill and they are both beautiful and work smoothly. I did purchase those separately and was pleased to see that the logo on the knob of the salt mill is white, while the logo on the pepper mill is black. This is a subtle, but easy way to tell the difference between the two.I read a number of reviews which mention that the mill cannot grind down larger salt crystals, however I believe this has a simple fix: When refilling the grinder, the knob at the top, which is also used to adjust coarseness, unscrews and is removed. This loosens the grinding mechanism at the bottom of the grinder, allowing the larger salt rocks to fall down into the grinding mechanism, which wedges the mechanism into a very coarse-grind setting. Then the knob is screwed back on, but it is not screwed on as tightly as before due to the blockage, which sets the new grinding at a very coarse grind. The trick is to simply flip the mill upside down at this point, which will release the salt rocks back into the mill from the grinding mechanism, and screw the knob tighter. This closes the mechanism down and allows for a finer grind. My aunt has a Peugeot pepper mill that worked so well, that I have had it on my wish list for the last two years. Don’t know what took me so long, but I finally bought myself a set and I’m very happy with them. Highly recommended.

Great mill; olive blanks are glued strips of woodGreat Peugeot mill and works well as expected. Sadly, the olive wood blanks are glued from strips. i.e., they are not solid blanks. For a company with the reputation Peugeot has, I would expect a solid piece of wood. After all, in this size of wood blank, it is not difficult to find. With the natural grain interrupted by the glued surfaces, it actually looks like fake wood. I am quite surprised by this–perhaps they keep the best to sell in France as they do with other really good French products.

Gorgeous – doesn’t work as well as the pepper millGot this + the matching pepper mill. It’s beautiful, feels super sturdy. The grinding teeth just don’t seem to do a great job of grabbing the salt? Using Pink Himalyanan Sea Salt from Costco, so maybe it’s just too big or not grabby enough. The pepper grinder works great though!

Great adjustable grinder, wish it was darkerGreat grinder! Don’t know what the other reviews regarding its poor performance with adjusting grinding size have run into, but ours operates great! Tightening and loosening the top portion is easy and I could see how some think it is too sensitive and thus the poor reviews regarding grinding, but we have acclimated to it and find it rather nice and smooth. Glad to have gotten this grinder, just wish it was a little darker. Might be worth staining a little more to fit our aesthetic.

This salt mill is not a new item as describedThe salt mill I received was OBVIOUSLY used, and not a new item as advertised. There was corrosion, pitted with rust on the the inside top of this mill. Scratched and scuffed in the circular direction around the outside of the top. There was no salt included as the described from the factory, and a corrosive amount of salt residue pitted the olive wood around the top of the mill. I do not seem to be able to attach the two other pictures showing the scratches and salt pitting the wood. Will try again once I post this. The seller obviously did no quality control before offering this item. Thank you Amazon, for making this right….and so quickly.l

Ok for large chunks, doesnt work for fine salt outputFine salt, achieved by tightening up the screw, doesnt work well. Seems you can get large chunks or (almost) nothing out. Will sit on the shelf and will try another one. Just doesnt work well for us (using a good salt)

Broken and does not mill salt (correct type used)If too tight it will not mill, if loosened will not mill – and there is no in-between.Basically useless – these are clearly faulty items being sold on Amazon.Avoid.

Beautiful but not usefulBeautiful but not useful, especially when it comes to the grind level adjustment that is not comfortable at all. There are a lot of alternatives for liver price and I think same or better quality.
