Good product, for the priceI knew I wanted a garlic press, and I knew I didn’t want it to be aluminum. I liked the price amazon had this one listed for, but the description is greatly lacking. After googling the model number, I found on norpro’s website that it is made out of zinc oxide, which is generally considered safe for food, unlike aluminum. The bad first…Cons:-It’s hard to clean. It doesn’t save much time over chopping garlic with a knife and board, since you have to spend so much time cleaning the little holes out with a toothpick. I imagine this would be true for any garlic press, though.-Some of the garlic gets smooshed up around the sides of the pressing foot, so it takes two tries to get everything out of each clove that you can.-I was under the impression that the skins could be left on the garlic in the crusher, but I do not advise this. It works for the first clove, but not the second, and it’s hard to pick the skins out after you’ve mashed them. For me, this means I must already have a knife and board out to whack the cloves in order to peel them so I can crush them. Now the good…Pros:-It crushes garlic.-It’s feels sturdy, like it will last a long time.-This is the only way I can process garlic without having big chunks of it in my food. I could spend 10 minutes pulverizing a clove with my knife, or I could crush it, keep cooking, and worry about pulling a toothpick out to clean it up later.-The nutritional benefits of garlic are better when the clove is crushed as opposed to chopped. That’s really only valid though, if the garlic is kept raw and eaten right away.Overall, it’s a hassle to use, but for me, chopping garlic is a hassle, too. I continue to use it because I like that the cloves are crushed and I don’t have chunks of garlic to bite down on while I’m eating.

My go-to garlic pressI’ve used this garlic press for decades. It’s simple but does the job and is durable. The garlic doesn’t squeeze up around the plunger while pressing, like some I have had.

Great little guy- Norpro1163 Garlic Press from AmazonI was on the road in an extended stay hotel in NYC (7 weeks for business) and was doing a lot of cooking so I could save from restaurant costs. I was missing my garlic squeezes and spending more time than needed cutting cloves in small, thin slices for my gourmet (ha ha) dishes. So I ordered this inexpensive press from Amazon and I was very pleased. Shipped quickly – 2 days with Prime! It does the garlic thing very well- I always strip the skin then press so it keeps cleaning time at a minimum – easier to get the little bugger clean! Also, I used it also to strain lemon juice in my martini’s and as a tamper to pack my espresso grind in my espresso maker! Very happening! I recommend highly!

Great Little Garlic PressMy sister asked me to buy this for her to use when she was visiting and then left it behind and so I started using it even though I didn’t want it. But turns out it works great, is easy to clean, and now I use it all the time! A bit of superfluous kitchen gadgetry but works great, especially for the price!

Simply the BEST garlic press design out thereUltimate low-tech garlic press that simply does the job over and over and over again. Just clean out the skins, and what gets left behind, between cloves (or groups of them) and you’re in business. IMO, the cleaning is minor, since you need to do this with any garlic presses. The ones that integrate a cleaning configuration with them are crap. They don’t clean out all that well, and very often don’t do that good a job of crushing the garlic. This design gives you more than enough leverage to get the job done.Every serious garlic lover/chef should have at least one of these in their kitchen…

Careless manufacturing issues – shoddyI bought this and returned it. The overall design is a sound one for a garlic press–but when I received it I noticed that the press holes were flawed. It looked like it was injection molded and there were thin flat pieces of metal partly remaining in or blocking almost all of the holes (I think these are called “flash” or burrs). Probably with use, the thin metal bits would break off (and wind up in the food); before that happened the press presumably wouldn’t work well.So to me, this looked like it was carelessly manufactured (i.e. no finishing step to remove the metal “flash”, poor molding technique in the first place, inadequate QA process).I returned it and was issued a refund promptly (it was purchased “fulfilled by amazon” from a different vendor). I am unhappy that the vendor would stock such a poorly made item in the first place.

Cheap knock offStill own 30 year old one I got during Soviet Union sold in Ukraine a country of Eastern Europe, made of pig iron metal, which works just fine. Comparing the two, they are somewhat alike but nowhere close, Norpro 1163 has horrible finish, metal is uneven all over the place, and press itself is flawed redesign, when pressed completely, it has small shaved area on the pressing hammer which doesn’t go down completely. It is also painted with silver pain which is likely to start peeling after a while. Holes on the bottom are unevenly centered. The metal while appearing thick, actually bents while pressing with my delicate hands. But overall, it does function therefore 2 stars.

It presses garlic.Though this does exactly what it says it’s supposed to do, I’m a little concerned about the quality of the construction. The hinge seems flimsy and wobbly and I’m afraid it may loosen more over time and fail. That said, so far it’s working just fine and I can’t exactly fault it for things that haven’t happened yet.

Works, but not so great.I wish I had just purchased a garlic press at the grocery store. Although it looks as if it’s very high quality, the feel and end product are not so much. The hinges are lose, and I often find myself re-positioning the plunger portion because it doesn’t automatically go into the garlic chamber without finessing. Also, you will have to scrape the garlic off of the end of this because it doesn’t press all the way through. Better than mincing by hand, but you can find a better press for your money.

Too smallThis garlic press works fine, but it’s really too small. Of course it’s hard to clean as everyone states, but I imagine all garlic presses are difficult to clean. Next time I’ll go into a store to find the right press so I can get a better sense for the size.
