Short Shelf LifeThese are quite tasty but be aware it’s a pretty large container and the one I received this week expires in 2 months?! I likely would not have bought if I knew we had to eat them so quickly.

Great accent for any savory dishThis is superb with Thai dishes, but don’t ignore this flavor bomb for other savory dishes. Try with Spanish tortillas (not the delicious Tex-Mex versions), with classic green bean & mushroom casserole (hello, Thanksgiving). For more crispness, toss in the microwave for ~10 seconds before adding as a crispy accent to an otherwise boring salad. Much better than the blah US version – they just have so much flavor.

Excellent taste at a great priceI bought these several months ago, and I’ve successfully used them in a variety of dishes, as well as toppings for Pho, grilled salmon, etc. Although I agree that they would taste better with a small amount of salt, the lack of salt helps me achieve a low sodium diet. One word about shelf life – these dried shallots last a lot longer than 4 weeks on a shelf after opening. I used mine for about four months with good results. After that, the small amount that was left didn’t smell so good, so I tossed it.

FlavorfulI used this with the crispy fried garlic to make crispy garlic chili oil. The combination of flavors in this condiment goes with almost anything, even ice cream. Some recipes add sugar but the shallots add a sutle sweetness that we like.

Not keen on the flavor, but I managed to use it upI bought because I saw a rave in some foodie publication or another. I just love love love onions so I was willing to try. Alas, there is a faint “fake” flavor when eaten raw—for example, as a topping. However, if given some time to hydrate in melted butter, for example, I found it acceptable in my morning eggs. Still, I’m using it up and not buying more.

On another level. Low shelf life. These fried shallots are sooooo good.Sweet, crunchy, and caramelized. Perfect addition to many dishes….including salads. Then downside is that you have to use them up quick as the label states they’re only good for 4 weeks after opening. Probably because they’re an onion product with little preservatives. I usually use about 2 thirds of the container cooking for 4 in that time. They’re still a real treat. Try them on some bbq rodeo burgers. Mmm

Very tastyKeep on finding new ways to use these as garnishes. Life at the beach and very humid so keep them in the freezer with works great. Very tasty

Light, crisp and savoryMy jar, which arrived promptly and well-sealed, contains a generous portion of sliced and fried shallots. This evening, I added some to a hot chicken sandwich. YUM! They’ll enhance burgers and salads. In addition, I frequently make soup to give elderly friends, and enjoy offering something extra that they can use as a garnish. These shallots will be perfect!
