I personally really enjoy it, but I think some people would find it quite complicated. One thing that annoys me is once you have cracked the ice by pulling the lever up, to get it out it’s basically necessary to take out the metal dividers and lever section. Which means the remaining pieces could refreeze and form a sheet if you’re not careful (i.e. if you don’t put the dividers back asap and put it all into the freezer again!). Well worth the hassle in my opinion, and so much better than silicone or plastic alternatives I have previously used, but it is definitely not a ‘simple’ ice tray. It’s also expensive, but very good quality materials.

I used aluminum ones for several years during my childhood and bought these for nostalgia’s sake.
These stainless ones are stronger, more solidly built and work even better that the old 1960’s versions that I used.
Some people gave bad reviews, but it may have been lack of experience other than the product.
In order for them to work correctly, you only fill them half full of water. Otherwise they will jam when frozen. Also you need to run the frozen tray under the faucet or let it sit out and melt slightly before you crack them. That is the way old school metal trays were meant to be used. If you do that, they work great!

Was looking to get away from plastic, and found this they look about the best compared to the other options, after 1 year they are 100% the ice is created quickly, and quickly is not how you get the ice out of these trays, you have to be patient and wait a bit with the tray out at room temperature, then they come out easy if you feel like you are forcing them to wait a bit longer, the cubes are of good size and best of all you are helping the environment with these, they will last you for ever and no more plastic.

It is difficult to pull up the arm that loosens the ice cubes, but it can be done.

If you are looking for perfect cubes coming out of the freezer, it is best to look for trays that have actual molds built into them. These are not it.
After some trials and error, I found that it is best to have the water level be in the middle or under the tray height. The freezing temp, tray leveling, and location has to be in a good location if there are also other food in your freezer. That way the water doesn’t freeze in layers to prevent breaking into shards and pieces. Definitely better in terms of no odor and taste than the silicone ones I tried. Only thing is, it isn’t easy to maneuver or put away as the silicone.
I still don’t trust it enough to just try to full force pull the lever if there is no give. I let it sit on the counter for a few more minutes. Feels like it can bend. It’s going take some getting use to with this honestly. Overall, I think any other tray like this that costs more or less will be the same experience. Since they use the same kind of mechanism. Only thing I can think of differently is if another brand uses different stainless or something.
