Have never pressure canned before but this machine is wonderful. I will never water bath again. I have used it 3 times for chicken. Each time there was one jar that didn’t seal but that is likely because they were filled either too much or not enough. I did find that after the machine registered E 0 and I turned it to limiting pressure that it took a few minutes, up to 3, to reset and display the number of minutes that I had programmed it for. When I first opened the box the lid disengaged and it took me a while to figure out how to get the lid back on. I am so glad that another customer noted that the electrical cord can become dislodged from the canner. I plugged my canner into two different outlets today and nothing. Then I checked the cord and it was slightly loose. Pushed it in and everything worked. Over all I am thrilled.

This canner is perfect for someone wanting to can a few jars at a time. I know it’s not an “approved” canner but I live at a low altitude and watch that the canner goes through all the proper steps while it’s processing the jars and it’s never failed. I would never can anything if I had to use one of those gigantic stove top canners that processes 2 dozen cans or so at a time. I’ve been using this close to a year and have never had an issue with the canner for the food I canned. Only ever had 1 seal that failed and that was probably my own fault.

I use this only for canning and it has worked perfectly. I love the ease of use and it doesn’t heat up the kitchen like using a manual canner. Will most likely order a second one.

I’ve started canning as a past-time and as a way to preserve some soups, chili, pasta sauce, and such type meals I can grab a jar and add noodles or rice and heat up. The last three attempts with a traditional pressure canner went ok, the product came out appearance right but I ended up with a background burnt taste that made it unpleasant. I need to learn how to regulate the heat better even though I’m in the 15psi range apparently. Being impatient to learn traditional methods and knowing there’s better options, I watched youtube videos on digital canners; a red haired older woman who’s some sort of scientist too mainly, great videos.
I made some soup and chili and canned both in pint jars, it holds 5 which is perfect because anything else left is dinner amount after a pots been made. Followed the directions and listened for the appropriate beep notices when certain stages were ready and it did it’s thing. Heated up to steam, I’d flick the weight to closed, it started counting down from 90 when it hit its desired pressure and I heard it beep when it was ready to open. The second run of chili went just as easy and I ended up just getting them out the next day.
I’ve eaten a jar of each already and they’re perfect. My canning problems solved by the get-hot-stop get hot smarty box. I have not used the other functions as it was meant for canning only. I’m sure I’ll use it to cook a roast or something similar one day although I think I’d prefer an insta pot for such and leave this for canning only. Now I need an insta pot!
I’d definitely get another one or larger one.

I have used my nesco pressure cooker/ canner strictly for canning and it does great! We live in high altitude and this canner does it’s job! I own 2 of these now and double up on canning batches! I love them

*1st of all, I called Nesco because of contradictory statements on their Salsa recipe in the book, & it contains Typos. The Salsa should Not be Pressure Cooked, it should be Pressure Canned.*
This is by far The most Awesome Canner/Cooker I’ve ever seen & used. It’s capable of Water Bath Canning, Pressure Canning, Pressure Cooking, Steaming, and Slow Cooking! 🙂 I tried out every function, & had/have perfect food items. The book that comes with it is precise & to the point with simple, easy to understand instructions. The book even has a few great recipes in the back. Customer Service actually answers their phones, & sound sincerely happy to help. I recommend this machine/product to Everyone who likes to make Can/Process foods. It does take a little extra time because you can do 5 pints or 4 quarts at a time, & machine has to cool off for at least an hour before venting, unlocking, & opening, but I was totally happy with Everything, & so thankful to Nesco for another fine product. (The only trouble that I have is removing & replacing the seal gasket under the lid after washing it, because it is a very tight, SAFETY fit. So if you’ve got arthritis or something like that, you might need some help.)

I love this sooooo much!!!! Makes pressure canning a breeze! Perfect for smaller batches of food or to finish off large batches that won’t all fit in the big canner. It takes less time than using the big canner because it heats up faster. And totally worry free. I don’t have to constantly monitor the gauge. It’s more quiet than my big canner, too. One less thing on my stovetop makes multitasking on busy food preservation days much easier. I also used the water bath option to can some hot sauce, and it was the perfect size for that. Get this. It’s awesome. I might even get myself a second one:)

I am an avid canner but I do find form time to time I might like to just can a small quantity rather than spend a full day with my large pressure canner. Sometimes I only have a small amount of fresh vegetables to work with. Tried this out with my fresh green beans and canned 5 pints and it was so easy. This is a great addition to my canning supplies and routine. I will now be able to can small amounts of leftover soups and chilies, etc. This is a must have. And a much better price than the electric Presto!
