Awesome Ice Cream Maker, Fantastic Value1st, a great value. If you get cream at a bulk store, 6 bucks for a 50 pound sack of rock salt, ice from your freezer, and a few pennies for the other ingredients (sugar and vanilla), you’re looking at a gallon of high quality ice cream for 5 bucks or less. Figure you’re saving 5-7 bucks a use. That means this unit pays for itself if you use if 6 times, maybe 10-20 times if you’re spending a lot on added ingredients.2nd. Simple to use. Really well designed. Can’t for the life of me understand people sticking plastic orange juice container parts to “fix” it. If it doesn’t work, bring it back! Otherwise, top only goes on one way, and there’s a locking feature that means that the unit must be properly assembled to fit correctly.3rd. For people saying “it uses a lot of ice, and I had to run to the store . . . ” my lord people, are we that helpless? You own a freezer, right? Make your own ice. All it takes is just a bit of planning. Just a bit people, not invading-Soviet Russia level planning. If you have an auto ice maker on your freezer, just empty it into a very large zip lock 2 or 3 times and you’re good to go.4th. The unit stops spinning when the ice cream reaches a given viscosity. I’ve made several batches of several different types and the only time the ice cream was “runny” was when I didn’t break up the cookies and they clogged the mixer holes and caused the unit to stop prematurely – my fault. The other batches all came out about the same – like a very thick yogurt consistency. Into the freezer, and a day later it’s getting there and 2 days later it’s the same consistency as store bought. If you’re getting runny ice cream, you’re doing something wrong. BTW – if you use more crushed ice and/or salt, the mixture gets colder quicker, and you’ll get more-crystally ice cream. If you use regular ice and/or less salt, the mixing takes longer and you get a creamier texture – adjust to desired consistency!5th. As for using Ben and Jerry’s recipes, be aware that this can affect the mixer. Maybe BandJ’s recipes require a higher torque motor. We have made several types of ice cream from the instructions that came with the mixer, and they all work great. If you load the ice cream with pretzels and what not, this might not be a powerful enough mixer.Great unit. Highly recommended.EDIT – It’s now late July and I’ve used this mixer one or two times a week since we bought it in March, which means we’ve done about 30 batches (lots of kids and friends and such). Still on the same 8 dollar bag of rock salt. Have made a dozen or so of the recipes that came with the book. Love it, recommend it even more than I did a few months ago.2nd Update – It’s now November, 2012, and the mixer motor is still going strong. Alas! The plastic bucket has a crack in it because a very zealous ice cream making person pounded on it to try to get some sticking salt/rock out after a run (argghh!). The new unit has just arrived. No issue whatsoever with the unit – it made a fantastic batch of vanilla with chocolate chips and walnuts right before its bucket was injured. I suppose I could have attempted to seal the crack, but at this price, I just decided to get a new one and use the old motor as a back up.Regarding some of the negative comments, it’s very clear that some folks have unrealistic expectations from this machine. “It’s made out of plastic, so it’s cheap.” The space station has a lot of plastic on it, as do Mercedes cars. “It’s too big.” Really? The volume of ice cream produced was not concealed! “It never froze the mixture.” You’re either not using the enough salt rock and ice, or you’re putting warm ingredients in – everything must be very cold prior to putting them into the mixer (cream, milk and egg mixture, and so on). “The paddle wasn’t stirring because it has to be firmly pushed into the motor.” True. The paddle does not stir using magic – it must be affixed to the motor. “Ice cream was not completely frozen.” Correct – it’s a slurry to somewhat solid when it’s done. Mix a bit by hand, then put in freezer until solid! “It doesn’t make Ben and Jerry’s flavors.” Too much stuff in the mix will hinder the mixer – go buy Ben and Jerry’s. This machine works well, but it’s not an industrial ice-cream maker, nor is it intended to be. Used properly, it will provide you with gallons of home made ice cream with the ingredients you choose and without chemical preservatives! Great deal.

Kid friendlyThis is a very easy product to use. We haven’t attempted any of the flavor recipes the machine came with, so I can’t report on the flavors. However, this is so easy to use. The bucket will hold half a small bag of ice the metal part will hold 2 quarts of ice cream base (as instructed do fill past the fill line). The paddle is easy to insert and the motor just snaps right in place on top. I use this inside so I don’t have to refill the ice or rock salt. It takes about 45- an hour to churn. You can store the ice cream in the metal container in the freezer but i recommend putting it in a different container to container to solidify, makes it easier to scoop out. My only complaint is, it is a loud while it is churning, but for the money it’s a great buy. This is so easy to use my kids can do it.

4 quart ice cream maker 😋May be a little loud while running but the sound reminds us what we will soon enjoy. I like this ice cream maker. Easy to use. The indent in the top of the container is a stop for the lid. Great product! My mom’s recipe was:1 can of sweeten condensed milk1 can of evaporated milk1 tablespoon of vanilla4 eggs beaten well1 cup of sugarMix together, pour into container, fill remaining space to the fill line with whole milk. Lock top into place. Layer ice then rock salt, repeat until full. Add more ice and rock salt as it melts down.

It’s the little things that make a difference—and this is missing a major little thing.I make dozens of gallons of ice cream a year as I host socials for 20-70 people throughout the year. I have two or three working simultaneously, and burn out a freezer regularly, so I always have an extra at the ready. I pulled this off the shelf over the 4th of July weekend, though it was purchased in April. It’s surprising that of all the ice cream makers I’ve purchased, in 2022 I received a machine that doesn’t allow me to see the contents. The top of the machine is not clear, nor opaque, nor just-a-little-bit-see-through. It is hard white plastic. There is no way to observe the product without taking the motor off and dismantling the canister and lid. That means you have to pull the entire canister out, wipe off the lid so as not to get salt in the ice cream, and then pry the lid off to check the progress. The real dilemma is putting it back together; you can’t submerge the canister when there are ice cubes obstructing it. Since I had other outer tubs that are missing motors, I could pull the canister out, dump the water and ice into a spare bucket, check the status, replace the canister in the now-empty bucket, lock it in place, and then pour the iced water back into the HB tub. It worked, of course, but what a nuisance!Completely unsatisfactory.I will say the machine makes ice cream, as promised. The latching mechanism is tight, and it seems to work well, otherwise. It seems to be a giant step backward in product development.

Great size and functionalNo complaints other than the ice cream maker itself is very loud.

Easy to use ice cream makerThe media could not be loaded.
Works great. This kind of ice cream maker is the one that you add ice and salt around the canister that you’re ingredients churn in.Overall it’s pretty light weight and not THAT loud. If you’ve ever used one of the much older ice cream makers of the same type you’ll realize that this is probably about half the decibels of those old kind. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t loud it’s just not as loud. But honestly all of them are.I’ve uploaded a quick video so you can compare how it sounds. I brought the phone in kind of close to the motor and then pulled it back. Keep in mind that the microphone on the phone tends to capture a lot of ambient noise in conjunction with the ice cream maker motor noise. This model can support 4 quarts of ice cream goodness.

Great, but LOUDExcellent machine that works to make ice cream. Getting the motor top on was a little difficult. The machine is LOUD. The instructions say to keep it either in your sink or outside. Opt for outside. It is incredibly loud.
