Just the right sizeThis is just the right size for two people. Not too big or small. I desert tonight and one for tomorrow. Easy to follow directions couldn’t be easier. Try adding bananas or blueberries for fun and a wonderful variation. Very easy to clean then stick the tub back in your freezer so it’s ready to go. Some 1/2 and 1/2 plus heavy cream with sugar and vanilla and you are all set. Clean up is easy with a quick wash in the sink.

Dang, this thing is loud!Works fine. Make sure ice cream however you like. But it is so loud! Almost like they tried to make the motor as loud as they could.

Extremely Noisy But Mostly WorksIt works quite well to freeze ice cream to a thick mushy state so the final freezing can be done in the refrigerator deep freezer section. My main complaint is how noisy it is. I put it in the room with my washer and dryer so I can close the door to make the noise tolerable. I don’t understand why it has to be so loud. Even with nothing mounted, it is very noisy with the sound of gears. I thought the gears were plastic and should have very little noise. I don’t know if I got one that is worse than normal or not. I see other people have complained about how noisy it is. I would order another one or a different brand if I knew it would be any quieter. At least the price is good. The price is the main reason I selected this brand.The freezing capability is adequate – not outstanding. But at least I don’t have to deal with salt and ice to freeze ice cream. The capacity is only one liquid quart, but that is adequate to last a short while. I put too much liquid ice cream in the canister and it overflowed a little, but not badly. I underestimated how much it would expand when frozen. It was nearly double volume when frozen. I saved a Blue Bell Ice Cream container to have a place to store the ice cream.The recipe I used had too much sugar and slightly too much vanilla, but still tastes good. I like the open top for adding fruit. I added frozen peach slices broken into smaller pieces. I will keep experimenting with the recipe until I get a good balance of ingredients. Even this first recipe tastes so much better than the Breyer’s, Dreyer’s’ and other brands I’ve purchased in the absence of Blue Bell Ice Cream. Blue Bell is still the best by far. I hope it returns on the grocery shelves soon and I won’t need this Hamilton Beach Ice Cream Maker anymore. Of course, if I could find a recipe that mimicked Blue Bell Ice Cream, then I’d always use the Hamilton Beach Ice Cream Maker – noise or not.

Fun & Yummy – but LOUD, Messy and Very Soft Ice CreamI have never owned an ice cream maker before but have wanted one for a long time. Apparently, all it takes to make ice cream is a cold chamber and a way to churn the ingredients. This appliance will make ice cream, sorbet and frozen custard. (A lot of the ice cream recipes I’ve been finding have eggs in them which really makes them a frozen custard.)I made the “peaches and cream” ice cream recipe that came with the ice cream maker last night. First, the appliance itself is very simple. There are 4 pieces: the base, a cylinder shaped bowl, a “paddle”, and a cover. To make ice cream, you have to freeze the bowl for a minimum of 8 hours. It is fairly large so you have to have some room in your freezer if you are going to buy this. We have a drawer type freezer and would not have had room if we had not just recently cleaned out the freezer. After the bowl is frozen, you sit it on the base, drop the paddle into the bowl, and attach the cover. The cover clicks into the base and holds the paddle in position. Then, you turn the devise on. The bowl spins but the paddle stays in position. Then you pour the ingredients into the bowl through the hole in the cover.My three comments about this device are as follows: First, this is by far the loudest appliance I have in my house. I had read reviews mentioning how loud this device and other ice cream makers are but nothing could have prepared me for how loud this device is. My house isn’t huge but I could hear this appliance upstairs while it was running in the kitchen. I was afraid it would keep my husband and son up. You would not be able to run this appliance while hosting a dinner party. Second, I made a huge mess trying to pour the mixed ingredients into the bowl. I don’t know if it was because there were chunks of peaches which were causing the liquid not to pour correctly, or if pouring cream in general is messy. It was extremely messy. Last, I wasn’t expecting this but home made ice cream is very soft – almost the consistency of a thick milkshake. You can put the ice cream in the freezer to harden it but then it becomes very hard and almost crystalizes.I will make some additional recipes and update my post if I am more satisfied with the results. In general, it was fun and I can see how it will help me eat healthier desserts, but I definitely wasn’t expecting the appliance to be so loud and I didn’t realize the ice cream would be so soft.

It’s okI just wanted a ice-cream machine, nothing super special just one to make the basics. This machine does that but the only issue I would say is that it’s ‘Loud’. Seriously loud…..I was tempted to put it out in the garage while it was mixing but that just seemed….wrong! But again, not a bad machine for what it does, get ear plugs!!!!

I make vegan ice cream and it comes out really good!This product actually surprised me because it was at the lower end for price and it was unit where you don’t need ice – which I wanted – but you have to freeze the container. That was no problem for me; it fit in the freezer just fine and I keep it in a plastic bag.It isn’t super easy to clean, but that was also not unexpected! And my wife and I just take out all the ice cream and put it right back in the freezer for the most part, so it doesn’t really need to be thoroughly cleaned. The plastic insert which turns around and around needs to be cleaned, but it is pretty easy to do. I don’t know whether you can put it in the dishwasher, but I just rinse it off. It is super easy to use! I just put all my ingredients in the frozen container; assemble the ice cream maker parts; and then turn it on. It goes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes depending upon how firm or hard I want the ice cream – I usually use cashew for the base instead of dairy. Any ice cream comes out great! The whole family likes it, even the grandkids!

Fantastic product!! I need to work on the operator error though ;0)This thing works maybe a little too well. I got it on the front porch at 1230 pm. It is now 730 pm and I have just made my first batch of ice cream. After seeing concerns from others who have used this type of ice cream maker…where to bowl has to freeze before using…I was concerned that I would have to wait until the next day to make the ice cream. As my grandson is here today I was really hoping to use the machine today. As soon as I got the ice cream maker, I washed the bowl and paddle and put the bowl in the back of the freezer right away. I had a bag of frozen blueberries so I put it the bowl thinking it would help freeze it. My freezer was set to the coldest level. I had already made the ice cream mix earlier in the day, but I moved the mix from the fridge to the freezer about an hour before starting to make the ice cream. About 6 and a half hours after receiving the product, I put the mix in the bowl and started her up. Within 3 minutes it went from slushy to not wanting to turn at all because the mix was already frozen. I added some left over cream and some whole milk and it started to churn long enough for my grandson to put some cookie dough and M and M’s in the mix. My take away from this is that 1.) If you decide today you want to make ice cream at your house tomorrow, just order this with Prime. 2.) If you remove the bowl from the freezer and it doesn’t slosh when you shake it then the liquid in side is probably cold enough. 3.) If you have your mix in the fridge for 3 hours or so then you likely don’t need to put it in the freezer at all.

EASY – LIGHTWEIGHT – A Sweet Deal!A lightweight machine and that is so EASY to use! I keep it stored under the cabinet and so it’s not only a breeze (pun intended) to stack all its components, for a tight and tidy storage area, but also is lightweight to remove and move around. All of the components are made of a durable plastic, with the exception of the bottom’s “internal” motor – part being a bit more rugged and made of metal components … along, with the actual freezer / frozen bowl is made of the same – a durable metal and filled with a liquid gel. The gel freezes solid, after leaving just the bowl part in the freezer and for 24 hours.TIP #1: Insert frozen bowl onto machine, add remaining paddle, clear locking protective cover, and THEN turn it on BEFORE adding anything to it! My 1st mistake was to NOT do this and the gel almost immediately melted, from the not-yet-frozen ingredients I added – which aren’t suppose to be. It was a flop and had to be redone; the ingredients were at best a slushed-up messy mix.TIP #2: When adding ANYTHING (ie. frozen or fresh fruits, etc.), they need to 1st be PUREED (with half as much or more regular white sugar) and in a food processor type machine and separately. Then, added AFTER the heavy cream / ice cream base mix is DONE – has sufficiently fluffed & frozen in the ice cream machine. Otherwise, the add-in will melt the base mix!
