(UPDATED 21-Feb-2018) Just Right For A Person Living Alone OR A Busy CoupleThe original review is below. Be sure to see the updates at the end. For news since this 2010 review, read on…I’ve had a several variations on the small George Foreman grills in the last couple of decades+. I have literally worn most of them out, and they last well when taken care of! I use them a LOT. They are great when making a meal in the summer. It doesn’t noticeably heat the room like the broiler in the oven and I think it uses much less power all year round. They are just the right size for one or two people.The grill takes just about 4 minutes to get up to temp (when the light goes out). This is usually just about what it takes to prepare broccoli or asparagus for the steamer and sprinkle meat or poultry with spices. When the GF is ready so am I. That timing works out perfectly and efficiently. When things go smoothly prep, cooking, and cleanup of a whole meal can be about 20m, total.I have cooked steak, lamb, pork, chicken, salmon, tuna, cod, haddock, bluefish, trout, and a bunch of stuff that just isn’t coming immediately to mind. It was all great. The biggest danger is over-cooking because it’s so fast and cooks from both sides at once.When cooking for one and there is space behind a steak or pork chop where I put sliced veggies like bell pepper and onions to cook with the steak. Behind the steak is a steamy spot on the grill and these veggies cook to grilled perfection.The tilted design is great to get rid of grease and the hot plates nicely sear the surface to seal in juices and flavor.With fish I like to use a very light coating of Mayo which seems to help make pink and white fish even more delectably moist and tasty. Even cooking a whole trout is great, albeit I needed to slice it in two at the ribs so it all fit at once. About 6 minutes between the plates and done to yummy perfection.With steak and meats the grill works great with rubs and spices. I really like the

Yum!If you freeze steaks, a 6 oz 3/4″ thick steak frozen solid and dropped on the hot places will be done to medium in just about 10 minutes, in my experience A fridge cold steak of the same size/thickness is done to medium in about 5 to 6 minutes. Timing is just about second nature now.The non-stick surface isn’t perfect, though pretty good. Be careful with forks/knives and use a plastic spatula to remove fish as it has more tendency to stick than anything else.Cleanup is oh so easy. While one must not put their little GF in the dishwasher or immerse it (I wish the plates were removable!) it’s still pretty easy to clean.Just after the food comes off I give it a quick hot wipe with a paper towel to get the bulk off. Just takes a second to do this. After the meal I finish the clean-up by hanging the front of the GF over the sink and using a soapy wet sponge. I thoroughly wash the plates and clean the catch tray. I then use the clean catch tray to rinse the plates of soap, then drain it and both air dry. Water all flows into the sink and it’s really clean. It all takes a minute or two.This is a great tool. If it wasn’t so great why would I keep buying them? 🙂 I even have a spare on the shelf in case my current 4 year old one fails. I love my GF and it’s saved so much of my time while giving me great food to enjoy.Update March 2013:I’ve used this little GF a lot over the last 4+ years. Maybe 5 days a week on average. It’s held up great for such heavy use, but it’s time to get another. The non-stick is starting to wear off. The one I have now doesn’t owe me a thing! A lot of good eating came off those grilling plates. Still perfect for one or two people. Still cleans up pretty easy but it’s time for another. I just hope they keep making them.Update May 2013:This model of the GF Champ was purchased for a friend. My own 5 year old model reached its end-of-life and I got a new GF champ. My current one has been really great.The GF champ models are all pretty much identical aside from the different plastic shells. The new one reminds me that each does have some minor variations – the new one takes about 30s longer to get a steak to my idea of perfection. I see the same sort of variations with Microwave ovens.I’ve given GF champs as gifts to many friends and family members. I have probably purchased at least one of every model made and cooked on most of them. A wonderful, predictable and consistent experience. Convenience, quick cleanup and the tasty food keep me loving the GF champ.Update December 2014:This fall I got a
George Foreman GR136B 2-Serving Classic model
from the Amazon Vine program. I’ve been using it side-by-side with my older 2 serving model.This new GR136B model has a nicer non-stick finish in a golden brown color and is lighter than this model. It did not seem to get quite as hot in the first few weeks but now it seems to more closely match the cooking temperature of the older one which I like.The one change I REALLY don’t like on the new model is the length of the power cord is about 10 inches shorter: 25 vs 35 inches. This makes placement of the GR136B on my counter far more restrictive.I’m putting my older GF away as a backup and the new GR136B is becoming my primary GF. If you can put the GF right next to the outlet on your counter the GR136B might be a better choice than this model. If you need a longer cord, this might be a better choice. They cook just about identically.UPDATED 21-Feb-2018:I continue to love my little GF workhorse. After using this one almost daily for years the non-stick coating is showing wear, but it still cooks great even if cleanup isn’t as quick and easy as when new. I expect I’ll be replacing this one with the current small model before long.I also have larger GF grills including a 6 serving monster I use when I have several guests, want to grill veggies along with a meat, or cooking large amounts of my popular boneless southern-style ribs for a pot-luck.On the small one for just me or cooking for a bunch on the big one I love using Stubbs Rub on these boneless ribs. Yum.With years of reliable service I’m very happy with my GF grills. Definitely 5 stars of cooking satisfaction.

DO NOT BUY to replace George Foreman GR10 series grills manufactured between 1997 and ~2010.Abstract: The new non-stick coating just does not work. Begin Review: This review is narrowly focused on the issue of long time and experienced users of the 2-serving George Foreman GR10 series grills needing to replace their grills due to electrical failure, worn out non-stick coating, etc. with current production. In 2007, the then-manufacturer Salton claimed the GR10AWHT was: “The Number One Selling Grill Worldwide” and was selling it online for more than Amazon was selling the GR10B for in February, 2020.I had bought two George Foreman GR10A grills, one about 1999, and after that one’s non-stick coating wore out, I bought another GR10A in 2010. I used it for grilling only three items: marinated pork chops, marinated boneless chicken breasts, and hamburgers. By February 2020, after I couldn’t get the gunk off the plates anymore, I measured the grill, looked for a form factor replacement on Amazon, and took the old grill and spatula/scraper with the gunk still on it along on my run to the recycling center. I then bought this GR10B for about 15 bucks from Amazon itself as the seller, since it was the closest size equivalent to my old GR10A on Amazon. Since the average review rating was 4.5 out of 5 stars, I didn’t do a lot of research.First impressions upon receipt: This latest incarnation of the GR10 series grills was the result of a cost reduction (read: product cheapening) effort. The power cord was shorter. I found it curious that in the section on cleaning in the GR10B user guide, they told you how to clean the drip tray and how to clean the outside of the grill. They told you what NOT to use to clean the non-stick surfaces, but LEFT OUT anything about what TO use to clean the non-stick surfaces. Of course, experienced users already had developed their favorite cleaning methods. No problem, I thought, until I discovered no spatula/scraper was supplied with this GR10B, and I recycled my old one. Oops! I used the GR10B just once in February to make chicken breasts, and thought clean-up was more difficult than with previous brand new GR10 series grills.When the weather got hot (which is when I used my grills most often to avoid heating up the whole apartment), I cooked twice more with the GR10B. Just using 100% cotton cloths with dishwashing liquid did not remove all the residue, something I could do with previous new-ish models. I think most people who have used non-stick cooking surfaces for 20 years know how to clean them safely. I don’t use 3M® Sandpaper or Black & Decker 1/4″ electric drills with a wire cup brush.I noticed this new grill was made in Indonesia, while the old ones were made in China. So, I called Prestige Brands support to see if they had a batch of grills with bad non-stick coatings or bad thermostats, because food will not come off if the thermostat is flaky and the surface is overheated. Well, the agent had no reports of bad grills. We went through a lengthy question and answer session, after which she said they would replace the grill with something similar. But I had to cut off the power cord and either email photos of it or mail in the cut off plug (which is where the date code is laser etched on this product). I had to enclose a return authorization number. Of yes, I also had to pay them USD $7.50 to ship a pig-in-a-poke replacement to me for a fifteen-dollar product. Mailing the plug legally would cost another $3.90. That is when I hung up on them. Essentially, this is a as-is, where-is throw-away product with a useless warranty.With 2-serving versions of George Foreman basic grills being sold on Black Friday by retailers for as low as $10, is it even possible to make a grill as good as 1997 to ~2010 GR10 series grills at this GR10B price? Many of the 2600 written reviews on this product contain anecdotal reports of the GR10B grill being hard to clean. Then, I looked at all the listings for George Foreman grills here on Amazon. Certain grills sold by Amazon, such as the GR340FB, GR380FB, and GR380VB indicate they have the Advanced George Tough Nonstick Coating, said to be 3 times more durable.I wouldn’t state the coating used in the GR10B doesn’t work without a valid comparison. It turns out you can still find GR10AWHT grills sold on Amazon, titled “George Foreman GR10AWHT Champ Grill”, ASIN B00004R93Z. Because many millions of these were produced and sold worldwide, they are also available at thrift stores and on popular auction web sites. To compare the old GR10AWHT with this GR10B, I purchased an unused open box GR10AWHT manufactured in 2003. The old grill weighs 3 pounds, 11 ounces. The new grill weighs 2 pounds 8 ounces, which is why it moves around more. The old grills come with a spatula/scraper, the new one does not. The old instruction manuals instruct you to use the scraper to clean the grill surface. That is why the new manual says nothing about what to use to clean the grill as they no longer supply the spatula. Because I had already prepared three meals on my new GR10B, I prepared three meals on my GR10AWHT to make a fair comparison.Next, I picked the two closest sized (L x W x D) boneless pork chops out of a tray of 12 pork chops in a supermarket value pack. I marinated both together is a dish of Lawry’s Herb & Garlic With Lemon Juice 30 Minute Marinade, a commercial bottled marinade. Four hours later, I plugged in the two grills side by side at the same time and let them warm up for 4 minutes as recommended by the GR10B manual. I grilled the pork chops in FIFO sequence (first in, first out) simultaneously for 6 minutes, then removed them to individual plates. There, I used an instant read thermometer to make sure the internal temperatures were at least 160 degrees farenheit.While the grills were still hot, I used a large paper towel to clean the old GR10AWHT, and made note of how much pressure I needed to apply. Most of the residue came off. I used the next sheet from the same roll of paper towels to clean this new GR10B, using the same amount of pressure. Not all of the residue came off. After eating and with the grills cold, I took photographs of the top and bottom surfaces of both grills, along with a group shot. I forgot to post a note in the photos indicating which grill it was, but you can tell the new grill from the black edges. The series starts with the new grill photos, then the old grill photos. In the group photo, the GR10WHT is on the left, next to the sauce pan.My plan of action now is to run the new GR10B into the ground, using cooking spray and aggressive wiping products, then throwing the GR10B in the trash along with the gunk I can’t get off from the last use.Prestige Brands comes around here to comment on critical reviews. To them, I say go to your product development team. Tell then to create a new product with a grandiose name like the GR9000. Design it to perform better than the GR10A, and advertise it as “a direct replacement for the GR10A series”. Price it at a sustainable price. Advertise and hype it. I’d buy one.

Nice GF for 1 serving – small sizeThis GF Grill is perfect for 1 person. We have received the SM GF grill. The description says for 2 servings but when we placed a couple burgers (wrapped in plastic) they didn’t fit and then when I tried with bread just 1 sandwich will work -as picture- so it’s not for 2 servings. We will return it, and then order the medium size GF Grill that we used to have it works for 2 servings.We love the bigger size and when we are making a big meal we will keep using it.Medium size is for 2 burger meat, 1 steak or 2 just so you know. We love to use GF Grill a lot 😜

Simple and worksAs soon as you plug it in, it’s on. I plug it in to start preheating as I build my sandwich. They say not to use any spray oil but I use some, and it makes clean up very easy. While it’s still hot, simply use a damp paper towel to wipe off the top and bottom grates. Make sure you unplug when you’re done cause it’ll stay on.

Great!Took this to UT for the summer to grill the occasional steak or burger. Easy to use, lightweight. Ample space for 2 servings. No temp control, but cooks food nicely and consistently from both top and bottom. Cleans easily. Perfect for my needs.

It’s a Foreman GrillThis is perfect gift for your child at college. It’s the smaller version of the grill fits a few burgers, a good size steak. Can convert it to a press. Quite simply it is a FOREMAN GRILL. Enough said if you know the Foreman grill you know.

Great grillOnly thing I don’t like about this one is the grill plates are not removable like my other George Forman grill. But I do love it and use it a lot. Just have to make sure to wipe it off after you use while it’s still warm.

It makes great paninis.There’s no temperature control. The plates don’t come off and go in the dishwasher. You can’t immerse it in the sink. Nonetheless, I love it because it’s so small and simple, and it does wipe clean very easily. I live alone and cook only for myself; sooo just 1 burger or 1 panini at a time.
