Unit defective and company makes it difficult to proceed under warranty claimThis unit was acceptable. The convection oven and grill never really worked as well as a traditional convection oven and grill, but they worked well enough that, along with the microwave, we used the unit daily. However, it suddenly stopped working a little over one year into its three-year warranty period with an internal electrical issue. At that point, it suddenly began blowing a fuse every single time it was plugged into any outlet, the instant it was plugged into the outlet. As it was well within the warranty period, I contacted Cuisinart customer service (the number on the warranty). I spoke with rep “A”, who initially told me that this was a repairable unit and that I would need to ship it to their service center, but then upon hearing the actual electrical problem, placed me briefly on hold and returned to tell me that they would replace the unit and that I would be required to send the defective unit back to them at their Glen Dale, Arizona address upon receipt of the new one (the shipping will be about 25% of the cost of a brand new unit). However, she could not tell me when I would receive the new unit because they are “on backorder” (a term which, I have since discovered upon some additional research, really means “we aren’t going to process your request” in Cuisinart corporate language). I was told that I could contact the service center again to check on status of the back order periodically if I didn’t receive the new unit in the next 4 – 6 weeks.I called to check “back order” status 6 days later, and was then told by rep “M” that the order to ship the new unit from the warehouse had been canceled by the company. I asked why, and was told that this is a repairable unit and that I would need to send the defective unit to Cuisinart for evaluation before I could get a new unit. I explained that I had spoken to another rep 6 days prior who authorized replacement, and was told that the information I had was wrong. I then asked WHEN someone intended to contact me to tell me that 1) I would not be receiving a new unit and 2) I would need to send my defective unit BEFORE they would process my warranty claim, and was told that nobody was going to notify me – I had to call them at the call center. (In other words, had I not called back, I would have been sitting here waiting indefinitely to receive a replacement that was never going to come. I am certain that this is even more convenient when the defect appears only a few weeks before the warranty expires.)I then tried to confirm the address I had been given by “A”, and only then was told that I was to send my unit to an East Windsor, New Jersey address (not the Arizona address). I asked how long it would take after receipt of my defective unit before a new unit is sent out, and I was told “4 – 6 weeks”. By this point, I was pretty aggravated, and asked if there was some way to expedite it since we have already waited a week as the direct result of Cuisinart’s customer service center, and we are now at an effective two months replacement time (1 week delay plus 1 week to ship to NJ plus 4-6 weeks to process and ship the new one to us + 1 week shipping time from the warehouse). The answer was no.Do NOT buy this unit (unless you live in Glen Dale, Arizona or East Windsor, New Jersey, and don’t mind driving across town to drop off the unit for replacement a year after you buy it). Do NOT trust the electrical system on this unit.Cuisinart warranties are not worth the paper that they are written on because the process that Cuisinart uses in warranty claims makes it so difficult to actually address a warranty issue that most people will likely just give up. This makes the company look good (offering a 3-year warranty) while costing them very little (they will only end up having to honor a very tiny percentage of warranty claims despite selling defective products).

It has a few drawbacksNow that I’ve had my Cuisinart Convection/Microwave/Grill oven for a little while, and used it, I wanted to share my experiences.First I have not used the microwave by itself at all. I have no real need to since I have 2 Tappan microwaves and there is no company that beats Tappan for quality. This mini oven was bought to use so that I wouldn’t have to open the full-sized 40″ Tappan oven from the 1950’s. Yes, it’s very old but still working fine. Ovens from that time period did not save energy and I’m sure that one uses a lot.So, the new Cuisinart is being used for anything that will fit inside it. And it’s great for most everything from roasts (with the convection roast feature) to baking muffins (using the grill rack for double level / double the amount cooking) to pizza on the express setting. It’s great also for quick warm-ups or cooking of small single portion items.I’m thinking that unless I’m cooking a 25 lb. turkey, like I did at both Thanksgiving and Christmas, I won’t need the full-sized oven at all.People who have reviewed this oven have said it was slow to pre-heat, and maybe they are comparing it to a more modern oven, but compared to my anitque Tappan it is faster. There are two major negatives that stand out for me:1. After pre-heating, no matter how fast I try to open the door and put the item or items in to continue to cook, the oven drops temperature immediately and by leaps and bounds. I noticed my 425-degree pre-heated oven was down to 325 degrees by the time the door was shut and timer set to convection cooking. This followed through with other temperatures, usually dropping 100 degrees each time. The only time I managed to have it drop only 75 degrees was once when I had only one tiny item to insert and tried for a land-speed record. I am positive my big oven does not drop temperature that fast, although, I have no way of accurately measuring that due to its age and condition.2. The brochures says the oven is easy to clean and easy to keep clean. It touts that the stainless interior is a breeze to clean and does not absorb odors. Ha! Yes, normally stainless steel is easy to clean as my dogs’ food and water bowls clean beautifully in the dishwaster. But trying to clean inside the little oven, pretty dark since the light is no halogen, is not easy or a breeze. All the splattered grease, fat, and meat particles are everywhere and do not come off with soap and water or baking soda and water or vinegar and water or any other gentle cleaner recommended. The small holes at the back of the oven fill with food and it cannot be removed. The top area above the heating element is extremely hard to clean. And odors stay in the oven and do not come out. Since thorough cleaning is impossible, all the food smells stay until something more smelly is cooked to take the place of prior item’s smell. All in all, I’m still happy with it since it beats the big ancient oven for energy cost and time/convenience. And I’m not a clean freak so I can live with a less than squeaky clean interior.

excellent performanceThis is a very quick review as I don’t have a lot of time logged with this machine as of yet. It seems I recall reading these convection ovens take an awful long time to preheat, but I really did not find that to be the case. It took 11 min. from 0° to 375°. Just for comparison, I fired up my Frigidaire Gallery series convection oven ( an oven costing six times the price), and from 0 to 375 took 8 min. Considering the larger oven is 240 V with two elements, I would say this little Cuisinart perform quite well.I tried a small frozen pizza. The instructions said 400° for 16 to 17 min. on an open rack. Since I like a slightly softer crust, I decided to use a steel sheet pan, (the bottom of a spring pan) and was certainly anticipating a longer than normal time. Nope, took right at 17 min. and the crust was just starting to get a little overly crisp. The cheese was right at 180°, and no cold spots anywhere. Every bite tasted the same. About perfect IMO.I then tried the microwave function. I routinely thaw some of these little chocolate cakes I buy in the frozen section. I give them 15 seconds on one side and 13 seconds on the other in my large Maytag microwave. Typically they have some hots spots, and some cool spots . I tried the same thing with the Cuisinart, but used 30 seconds as that was convenient, and just flipped the cake over halfway through like I do with my larger microwave. The final product was much more evenly heated throughout. In fact, I would say this is the best they’ve ever turned out.The top and the right side of the machine does not get so hot that I cannot touch with my hand, but the left side ( where the heat vent is) gets quite hot. I did not touch the back, but I would say you could put this oven and a fairly contained area. You’re not going to burn yourself if you touch the door, at least I didn’t experience that after nearly 30 mins in use.It would be nice if the font size was a bit larger on the keypad, but my 54-year-old bifocal eyes can read it okay without having to grab a magnifying glass. I need to study the instructions little bit more, as not everything is intuitive, but overall you can operate without a manual without too much fumbling. If it continues to perform as well, I will be quite pleased. I had no unusual sounds from the turntable, no issues with the clock, and no unusually hot spots. I think some other reviews mention these three problems. I paid $199 by putting this in my cart and waiting. It usually sells for $250. For this price, I’m very happy. Other microwave convection ovens were considerably more expensive. I do wish it was a little bit larger, but adequate for most of my needs.I’ll update this review as I get some more time on the machine, but at first glance it appears to be a real winner!

Very versatile oven, with good appearance. Door latch will fail!Summary – we do not recommend this oven because the door latch will fail under normal use.Not a large oven (even in larger of the 2 sizes available). Make sure the inside dimensions are adequate if you are replacing a large size microwave. Will do true convection baking, + true broiling (called ‘grilling’) and also microwave: a real 3-in-one oven. Also programmable for a sequential combination cooking of these (read the manual well to get best use from this oven.)Would prefer more configuration possibilities, even though most users would not care to use most of them. For example, the beep when each button is pushed, each cycle is finished, etc. is annoying. Would be best if the volume of the beeps can be adjusted, including silent, for example. These options would be very inexpensive to add to the chip. Give us more options, let us decide….Would appreciate a keypad which would allow more granular quick microwaving. This unit has quick microwaving with one button, adding 30 seconds per push. But it would be nice to be able to add ‘speed dials’ of commonly used, useful cooking times without more ‘memory’, pushes. Maybe just push time and then Start for quick microwave cooking.Update: The door latch mechanism failed after less than 2 years of normal (not rough) use. This is a commonly reported problem (see reviews and click on “Door Latch” button under “Read reviews that mention” header on this Amazon webpage.) The same problem is often reported with the CMW-100 model. This can be repaired in home in about an hour by a relatively handy person at very low cost. There is a YouTube video “How to fix a Broken Microwave Door” by Spelunkerd which generally shows the process. It is for a different microwave, but the cause and fix are the same, although I did not remove any parts/connectors like he did. The Cuisinart part is not near the front, but instead near the center line of the unit. Move/tie wires out of the way to clear paths to the part. Stay away from connectors. Remove the off white block that fits into the part first. The plastic piece in my unit is white, and was not broken off, but cracked and partially sheared and twisted. I held it back in normal position with a toothpick inserted vertically between the edge of the circuit board next to it and the white broken piece. Then build up epoxy cement around the broken base area as much as possible, using several applications if necessary. You can try to fill behind it too, giving it even more strength.I hope the engineers that designed and spec’d this part are no longer working there. It is surprising that this oven is listed as “Amazon’s Choice.”

Good, but……Had this microwave for 3 years and 6 months. The door release broke today. Of course the protection plan was only good for three years. I’ve had other microwaves with the push button door release and never had this problem. Then, what should one expect when it is made of plastic. I do not recommend this product.

Good solid applianceI replaced my sharp convection microwave with this because I couldn’t find another sharp from a reputable company name that I recognized. I would much prefer a new sharp as I had 10 years of great service with it and used the convection a lot. I wouldn’t usually make a purchase with the lower rating on this but I’m very aware that convection cooking is still new to a lot of people and it takes a while to get good at it and/or do it sucessfully. This unit looks nice although it does show fingerprints but that’s easy to deal with. I hate the door latch because it feels very unstable but who knows, it may last the life of the unit. The glass turntable is nice, my sharp had a metal one I kept covered with parchment paper circles which kept it clean. I’ve just begun to cook with the convection and I cooked something that took 18 mins in my sharp but had to cooked 9-11 mins longer in this unit. I’m not sure what that’s about yet but it disappointed me. I bake cookies and pretty much everything else in the convection so there will be a lot of adjusting times it seems. I’m very savvy with convection cooking and prefer it. It took a lot less baking time in my sharp versus a regular oven. I’m usually comfortable with Cuisinart because my food processor is 10 years old and still going strong. Also my Cuisinart Stand mixer is 5 years old and works great. Both of those appliances have motors built like tanks so I took a chance with this unit. In my sharp you had to place a silicone or other pie plate upside down to pop popcorn so I appreciate not having to do that with this Cuisinart. It pops great just on the glass tray. I do miss the interactive display on the sharp. In convection cooking I have found its just not necessary to preheat at any time and everything previously came out wonderful in my sharp. I just popped it in and turned it on.I’m really uncomfortable about the much longer cooking time for my first few items but I plan to really test this unit for convection cooking with mostly baking. I don’t cook meats in the convection because I hate the cleanup but I may try a chicken. Also the microwave is supposed to be 1000 watts. My older sharp was only 900 and heated a bit faster than this unit but it’s close enough.I plan on reporting back after I’ve used the unit more. So far I can only justify 3 stars because the convection took so long to cook but it does cook so I hope I can up the rating when I’m more familiar with the unit.Update:7-23-17After using the convection and microwave constantly for several months I am very pleased. It does take a little more time on both the microwave and convection that what is recommended for foods but it performs very well.I would purchase this appliance again. I feel the complaints about units not working are most likely because something was damaged in shipping. Boxes get tossed a lot in shipping.

Great all in one cooking machine. We use this about every day, and it’s done exactly what we want it to. I do tend to stick to only two or three settings, however. Standard microwave works as expected. There are some one touch buttons to cook popcorn, potato, fresh veg, frozen veg (and though I say one touch, each button will set to a particular amount (1C, 2, whatever) and then the microwave will operate for a set time based on what you set, not based on any kind of food sensing (as far as we can tell). So, for instance, if I just put in two cups of frozen veg, I’d have to press the frozen veg button two times, then press start, and it will microwave for 5 minutes. I might have to add time after the microwave is done. Also, if I decided that I wanted to add 30 seconds using the quick button, I can’t while it’s in this kind of auto program mode…so it’s actually easier to press the 5 button once, and the microwave will quick start for 5 minutes, with the ability to add time 30 seconds at a time in the middle of cooking.I also use the convection feature quite frequently, for a variety of things I want more crispy than a microwave will do it. It helps to use the included wire rack to put the plate closer to the cooking element, for quicker cooking. There’s a combo convection/microwave feature that works well too, but usually I just use the convection feature (with the food in the microwave while it’s heating) to heat the microwave up to the maximum temp (I think it’s 450), and then it only takes a minute or two of microwaving to finish up any extra heating.I haven’t tried baking cookies or cakes (and there is a cake button), but from the way “grilled” cheese or frozen corn dogs or cheese sticks have cooked for me, I think you could easily use this for that kind of baking. We do have a good oven, but the microwave is a lot faster and easier to use. If you want to use the convection bit, definitely put the food in while the oven is pre-heating. It may take some trial and error to get your food exactly the way you want it, but there’s no point (so far as I can tell) waiting for the oven to be heated first, and it might just take longer than even the standard oven would if you waited.

Door Inoperable – After Three YearsCuisinart CMW-200 1.2-Cubic-Foot Convection Microwave Oven with Grill was absolutely WONDERFUL in every way. The microwave was a great, the convection baked like a charm (also good at air-fry). Even the grill. We REALLY loved this product. It was the perfect size.Sadly, after using nearly every day for three years and three months, the door broke and would not open. Seems like the latch no longer would catch. The warranty was for three years, but I am certain Cuisinart would have accommodated a repair or replacement. I could have returned the item. My dilemma … 1) finding a box and insulation to ship to the manufacturer and 2) the cost of shipping. Not worth the time, for me. So, we took it to the landfill to be environmentally trashed. We chose to purchase another similar product.

Updated to 1 starUpdate 9/7/2015 – The clock on this microwave has failed. When I combine that with a door that will not open after the convection oven is hot, the review has changed from 4 stars to 1 star. I do not recommend this microwave regardless of price—————————This is my review of the Cuisinart CMW-200 Microwave / Convection Oven. I originally purchased a Samsung Microwave / Convection oven but had numerous problems with 3 replacment ovens, and I decided to simply return the last Samsung oven and purchase the Cuisinart oven. Here is my review…1) Microwave Function: This is completely standard with 10 power levels and a timer. It also includes a turntable which can not be turned off. The start button increases the time by 30 seconds. 5 of 5 stars.2) Convection Function: The highest temperature setting is 425 degrees. The number pad allows different settings of temperature – For example, press the number 1 button for 100 degrees, number 2 for 150 degrees, number 3 for 250 degrees, number 4 for 275 degrees, number 5 for 300 degrees, number 6 for 325 degrees, number 7 for 350 degrees, number 8 for 375 degrees, number 9 for 400 degrees, and number 0 for 325 degrees. What I really like is that once you start cooking, it actually displays the temperature inside the oven. Many microwave/convection ovens do not. The oven comes with a high/low riser grill. Low for most items that you want to cook, and flip it over for high level riser for browning items from the grill (broiler) on top of the oven. This oven has just about the best convection function I have ever used. 5 of 5 stars.3) Combination Cooking: Most ovens of this type can be used to cook with a combination of Microwave and Convection cooking.Personally, I like to have a bit more control over these two functions, and I usually start with the microwave function, then use the convection function. Regardless, this oven does feature combination cooking with several nice variations on this function. 5 of 5 stars.4) Microwave Safe Pan: You’ll need to purchase a pan for this microwave as one is not included. I suggest the Microwave Crisper Pan found at the URL below from Amazon. I’ve used it and it works well for a couple different functions. If you place meat direction on the grill, you can use the pan to catch drippings. Further, it fits well on the riser grill for convection cooking. It also can be placed directly on the glass turntable for microwave cooking.URL: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KIAM2JO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01Since a microwave safe pan is not included with this oven and clearly needed, 0 of 5 stars.5) Manual: I am very impressed with the manual for this oven. Its more like a paperback book than a cheap flimsy manual. It also includes a small cookbook. 5 of 5 stars.6) Microwave look and feel: The outer top and sides are made of brushed stainless steel. All surfaces inside the microwave are made of brushed stainless steel. The keypad functions are clear and work well. The door release latch is troublesome when the oven gets hot; it tends to stay closed unless you use your other hand to ‘help’ the door open while pressing the door latch button- Not very impressive. Further, the feet of the oven do not grip the counter-top surface very well, and when you press any buttons on the microwave, it does tend to slide around a bit on the counter-top. Overall look and feel rating: 2 of 5 starsEven though number 6 above was low rating, the fact is, the convection feature of this microwave oven is excellent, especially for the price. Further, the electronics seem to be solid with no errors that I have encountered. I recommend this Microwave/Convention oven.
