Use This Oven For Everything: Score!I bought this oven two years ago because my LA landlady refused to fix my oven (despite my sky high rent) and since the stove top worked I thought I’d try an alternative first. I rarely use the oven and have an air fryer, but a close friend cooks and bakes for me all the time. And the toaster oven wasn’t cutting it. Frittatas wouldn’t cook properly. Fruit compote took forever. Most things wouldn’t fit. So I found this oven. And we couldn’t believe how well it worked. From baking cookies to broiling or baking chicken, to making tacos, it does it all. It’s big enough to fit everything yet not so huge that it takes up the whole counter. I personally line trays with aluminum foil to avoid too much cleanup. Trays are removable. I bought extra trays for it like for an oven, shallow and deep. The temps are accurate and perfect. AND I use it to toast bread and bagels as there’s no room for a toaster too, and I think it works just great. One of the best purchases i’ve made.*I got a new oven when the upstairs was redone and, even though my oven works, I never use it, because why heat up my place when this one works so well.

Very good product, yet a couple of design flawsI decided to purchase this toaster oven a couple of weeks ago when my 12+ y.o. Oster had clearly reached the end of its useful life. I extensively researched the competition on this and other websites before choosing this Cuisinart model. The features that were “must-haves” for me were an easy-clean nonstick interior and the convection option. I did not want a rotisserie – which I would never use – an air-fryer, or a dehydrator function. I also had specific space requirements (measure, measure, MEASURE before buying any appliance!) and wanted a timer that exceeded a 1 hr. limit (some products only go to 30 min., which is useless for baking potatoes, etc.), and this oven’s timer goes up to 2 hrs. before automatically shutting off.Everything about this Cuisinart model fit the bill, and at a very reasonable price, considering the obvious step-up in quality and features over my old oven. The controls are easy to use and there is a blue-backlit digital display. It is also quite a bit larger, enabling food prep for at least 3 adults for many items such as frozen french-fries, dinner rolls, baked potatoes, roasted vegetables, etc. – which is primarily what I use my toaster oven for, to save having to turn on my convection wall oven. So far, I have made all of these items, plus toasting small slices of “artisan” bread that are too small for my Cuisinart pop-up toaster. I have been really very pleased with the oven’s performance: the food bakes/toasts much more evenly and quickly than in my old oven, particularly when using the optional convection fan (there is an on/off button for that, and it is very quiet when running.)Also the chimes that sound when the oven is done pre-heating (which is does quickly) and the timer goes off aren’t loud or obnoxious – but there is the ability to disable those if you find it bothersome. I have not used the broiler function since that can get messy, and I’d rather use my self-cleaning wall over for that.I have had good success with all of my Cuisinart appliances, (which also includes a waffle-maker and food-processor,) so I was confident in purchasing this brand. The toaster oven comes with a three-year limited warranty, and several recipes are also included in the product manual. I really hate the idea of throwing away manufactured items into a landfill after only a few years usage, so I prefer buying quality. Now for what I consider two design-flaws. A minor one: while a clock feature is included to always display time-of-day on the screen (which is back-lit only when the oven is in use), the product manual states very clearly that the oven should be unplugged when not in use. Huh?? Of course, that then zeroes the clock back out, so what is the point of having a clock function if you have to reset it every time you use the oven?? Personally, I don’t need another “vampire appliance” sucking juice when not in use – and I already have digital clocks on both my wall oven and built-in microwave,, so this feature is useless to me. I thought at first that perhaps there was a “delayed start” cooking-function that used the time-of-day to work, but no, no such thing. Oh well.I do question the need to unplug the oven every time you’re done using it, but I can see why they put that in the manual, because of the OTHER design flaw: the exterior of this oven (besides the handle) gets VERY hot when in use – which the manual clearly warns about. SO, to completely guard against the oven being accidentally turned on – say by a child – you’d want to unplug it, as it is definitely a safety issue. On one of my first uses of the oven, I went to reach around the side of it to get to one of my canisters, (which are several inches away from the oven), and just brushed the underside of my forearm against the corner of the oven and that was enough to slightly burn my skin. You have to give the unit adequate clearance, as the manual states, and there are bumpers in the back of the unit so that it can’t be pushed up too close to a vertical surface, and nothing should be left on top of the oven. You also must make sure not to have the electric cord too close to the oven, as contact with the oven could melt it. What also bothers me about all this, though, besides the safety aspect, is that so much heat is escaping the appliance – which is an obvious waste of energy. It seems to me that the oven could have been better insulated to alleviate this. All in all, I’m quite happy with this toaster oven and hope to get many years use out of it. While I can recommend it, I thought it important to honestly present all the pros and cons so you can decide for yourself if it’s right for you.

Huge upgradeIt took months of convincing to get my husband to concede that we needed a new toaster oven. Actually, I’m not sure he ever did; I just did my research and bought one.I love this little oven! It’s ridiculously quiet and toasts/cooks FAST! I like the various settings available and once you know how the adjustments work, it’s very easy. Highly recommended!

A kitchen workhorseMy husband and I are retired and we’ve owned this little oven for a year and a half. It is easy to use if you read the directions first. Use it almost everyday, mostly for baking or heating up frozen meals. It has never failed to start or work properly. Very pleased with this purchase.

Gets the job doneThe oven arrived yesterday and I’ve used it 4 times so far, twice for toast, once of pizza, and once for phyllo dough and brie pastries. As others have stated, the build quality is far from rugged. The exterior is made of thin metal and the pan that comes with it warps slightly when it gets hot. The exterior metal makes a small pop as it expands when it heats up and again when it cools down. That may go away over time, though. There’s a small bump-out on the back of the oven. I’m sure it’s there to increase interior space but it gets VERY hot (I have the burn to prove it). Be sure the back of the oven has a few inches clearance from a backsplash or wall. And be sure the plug doesn’t come in contact with it. The top of the oven gets warm but if you have adequate space between the top of the oven and any cabinets that are above it, you should be fine. The oven is more compact than I thought. We have limited counter space so I went with the smaller model although I think the larger model would have fit and would have provided some advantages (more on that later). The controls are relatively straightforward although you’ll likely need to initially consult the instructions for settings that require you to select multiple options. For example, to start the bake cycle you need to select bake, press the temperature button to set the temperature, press the timer button to set the time, press convection if you want to use that option and press start. It’s something I’m sure will come naturally after using the oven a few times. It beeps once when it reaches the preheat temperature and opening the door to put the food in the oven initiates the timer countdown. When the amount of time you’ve specified has elapsed, the oven beeps 5 times and shuts itself off. All in all, a very convenient way to bake. The display lights up for a minute or two when you adjust any settings and when you open the door, and then goes dark again. There’s a clock on the display although it can be a little hard to read when they display is dark. The first time I baked something, I thought I had done something incorrectly as the oven heated to the preheat temperature more quickly than I thought was possible. It turns out this thing heats up and is ready to go in a fraction of the time it takes my full-size oven to come to temperature. The oven has a stainless steel finish. One side has a lot of vents, the other is fee of vents. In my opinion, the vents aren’t very attractive but the way our kitchen is laid out, they’re not really visible so it’s not a big deal. I’m sure many people won’t care so that may not be an issue for you. The interior is described as nonstick. The two heating elements on the bottom will probably pose a challenge when it comes time to clean the oven so time will tell how easy it is to clean. It toasts nicely with both sides of the bread being evenly toasted. I like my toast dark and it took 2 minutes and 20 seconds to finish toasting. That’s about 20 seconds longer than our conventional toaster although that abomination burns one side of the bread and leaves the other unscathed. I’ll be glad to see it go.Overall, I really like this oven. I was able to cook at 10” pizza in it although it was pretty tight. It toasts bread well and heats up very quickly. Due to its size, my regular oven takes forever to preheat and gives off a lot of heat. Which is really annoying when we’re running the central AC to try and keep the house cool. I suspect my regular oven won’t see much use in the future. The larger, similar Cuisinart (TOB-260N1) has more space, comes with additional accessories (e.g., a pizza stone) and has a light. I probably should have gotten that one but was concerned about counter space. I think the two things the larger one has that I’ll miss are the interior light and the rack that pulls out automatically when you open the door. Neither is a deal breaker and this oven was quite a bit less expensive.Initial impressions suggest this oven is a keeper. I’ll update this review if I note anything significant or we encounter reliability issues as we continue to use it over the coming months.

Non-intuitive, attractive, works finePros:Looks nice on the counter, is reasonably compact, holds a good amount of stuff for the size, can bake, toast, and broil perfectly well.Cons:The control panel is totally non-intuitive. Even after using it for months, I have trouble setting it correctly. Sometimes I am trying to set the temperature and I accidentally hit the wrong button and it starts over. Also, it is very unclear what the difference between “toast,” “bagel,” etc actually is. There is no way to just set it to be on at a given heat level for a given amount of time without choosing one of these confusing selections like toast or bagel or bake etc. It should not be this complicated!Regardless of the needlessly complex controls – I’m able to heat stuff up in it, brown stuff in it, and so on, which is more than I could do with the broken toaster oven it replaced, so there is that. And it’s entirely possible that if I did go so far as to memorize the owner’s manual I might be more comfortable with it – but, I don’t think a toaster oven should be complicated enough to require that!

Nice Replacement for a Broken OvenWe purchased the Cuisinart TOB-135N Deluxe Convection Toaster Oven Broiler, Brushed Stainless to help out until I can get the stove I love. Our current oven door’s hinge is broken. NOT buying a new stove until I can get the one I want. Solution? Cuisinart TOB-135N Deluxe Convection Toaster Oven Broiler, Brushed Stainless! I would have rated all features a 5-star, but there is a learning curve. So far, I really like it. The only problem is finding pans that are small enough to fit inside it.I would suggest using some of the recipes in the owner’s manual. The Turkey Meatloaf was really good. Even my husband liked it. AND I made a meatloaf sandwich from the leftovers. After using their recipes, i kind of got a ‘feel’ for adapting some of my favorite recipes. After researching several countertop ovens, I’m glad we selected this particular model.
