Easy to use, saved me tons of moneyFirst, ignore all the reviews about the locking mechanism being hard to use. I am not particularly large or strong, but I can read directions, so this was easy to use, including closing the locking mechanism. This is incredibly easy to use, and I have already vacuum sealed fruits, vegetables, meat, and more. I shop at Costco, and even with the occasional thrown-away food, it is still cheaper, but I always feel terrible about food waste. Now, I my chest freezer is full of vacuum sealed food, and I am not throwing food away weekly. There are two settings, one for moist, and one for dry. I have mainly used the ‘moist’ setting for food. When vacuum sealing fruits and vegetables, take a few minutes and Google the best way to prepare them for vacuum sealing. (I learned that blanching is a great way to preserve many vegetables!) I have used the dry setting for flour and rice – and nail polish stickers (a weird one, I know). (I use nail polish stickers and they dry out as soon as you open the packs, so you are forced to buy more, even though you only use 1/4 of the stickers per use. I now use my Food Saver to reseal the packs and use them over and over.)I used the bags that came with this Food Saver, and went through those quickly. I then starting using the roll to make bags – there are directions on how to make the bags in the packaging, but it is also pretty intuitive. When I first ordered a new roll of vacuum seal material, it seemed expensive ($26 for 3 rolls), but when compared to how much I save on food waste, it was worth it.The one thing I messed up the first time was how far to insert the bag to seal it. I inserted it waaaay too far and the Food Saver just continued to try and vacuum the air out for over a minute. I was worried that it would burn out the mechanism, so I opened the machine and it shut off right away without damaging the machine, which is good to know in case I mess up again in the future. I then re-inserted the bag so that the edge just came up to the drip tray (like it says in the directions, funny how following them works…), tried it again, and it worked perfectly. As I was learning how to use this, I did insert the bag too far a couple of times, and used this process to correct it and vacuum seal the bag with no issues. There are lots of models of Food Savers, and I don’t pretend to know how they stack up against each other. However, one of the big reasons I chose this one was the slim profile. I was able to store this in a cupboard without completing rearranging everything. Some of the models are pretty bulky, but this one takes up very little space on the counter and is easy to find a place to store.

To lock, press down on one corner at a timeThis vacuum sealer has very good suction but takes several seconds longer to heat seal then others that I’ve had. There are reviews saying it’s difficult to lock but I found if you press down on each side separately until it clicks and then slide the lock on the right side, it takes a lot less force then pressing down on both corners together.

Works greatThis thing is amazing and I love it, but calling it compact is extremely misleading. It is not small whatsoever.

Still workingThis is the ONLY brand that works. Most stop sucking in as little as one ir two bags. This is the ONLY brand to buy!

Perfect seal every time. This is my third sealer. The first was a Food Saver purchased at Costco. It was an expensive model that had a sensor (I think) that made it work some time, when it felt like it. I eventually junked it as Food Saver customer service sucked. The second was an off brand purchased from Amazon that worked OK, but didn’t seal moist items real well.I found this Food Saver on Amazon and bought the “used” one for only $35 or so.It seals every time. The seal heater gives a good seal quite fast. The vacuum pump also seems to be of a good size sucking out all of the air. I especially like the indicator lights that tell you when the job is done. The ‘moist’ setting, I believe, heats the sealing element more, ensuring a good seal when moisture is present. So far, I suppose I have sealed about 100 bags. I don’t believe even one had failed to seal.It has been a joy to use.

Great compact sealer.Excellent compact vacuum sealer. Locking it can be difficult at first, until you’ve used it a few times.

Well built, very easy to use.I bought this unit to replace an older version with all the bells and whistles. I was a little concerned that I would miss the more expensive version I had before, but after using this unit I found that it worked very well and was much easier to use in the long run. The unit is not as large as my older version, but still has the same effect (vacuum and sealing) as my older version. It took a little getting used to it, but after a few uses it is very easy to use and works very well. Well worth the price!
