I’ve had this for over a year, so I’ve given it lots of chances to work for me. But after too many botched baked foods, I purchased another brand today. Tested both at the same time. Total different readings once the oven reached 400 degrees. This one is off by 50 degrees at an oven setting of 450 degrees. I had to set the oven temperature to 525 to get the thermometer to move above 400. And then it only got to about 425. The new one, AcuRite 00620A2 Stainless Steel Oven Thermometer, was much closer although, not exactly to temperature. However, it was within the +/- ranges described in the manufacturer’s description. Out with the old, in with the new. Will review the AcuRite after I’ve used it for a while, but less than a full year for sure.

I purchased this thermometer with another brand and they both matched each other exactly. I find all the thermometers difficult to read if placed in the middle of the oven. I would not have a problem with a larger face. The biggest drawback is that the darn thing, like most thermometers, falls down easily. If left on the metal/wire rack on it’s platform it is easily knocked over as the face seems to weigh as much or more than the base. OK, use the notch at the top to hook on to the metal/wire rack and it dangles because the notch is too shallow to firmly anchor on one of the metal bars. The slightest movement and it pops from the notch and slides down the rest of the hanger, often falling off. Also, once it starts to turn after popping off the rack, it is difficult to read. Anyway, I use them to test the oven. Learned my oven’s thermometer is consistently inaccurate. So, I place the two thermometers in the oven to confirm when the temperature is accurate for more than 10 minutes and remove them, place the item in the oven. Not going to ask for a service call. Too $$.

This is accurate within a degree; I know because I have tested it against other methods, like a new oven, known-accurate thermometers, and known-less-accurate thermometers. (Yeah, we have a lot of thermometers around the kitchen.)
It is durable, too. I know because it has been abused a little now and then. (We don’t bother to be too careful with things in the kitchen because, if it can’t real everyday use, we retire it to the “Whatever Drawer.”)

This is the one recommended by America’s Test Kitchen (excellent resource – I would post link if Amazon allowed it) and it works very well.

I bought this based on the high rating it got from America’s Test Kitchen. It IS accurate. However, when I hang it on the rack in my oven, moving the rack in and out causes it to get knocked off and it falls to the floor of the oven. So, that’s really inconvenient when you have mitts on and are pulling out a 475 degree dutch oven. They need a better clip to hang it on the rack so it won’t fall off so easily, I think I’ll try just standing it up on the bottom of the oven. Maybe that will work better. Overall, I would definitely buy it again. It’s accurate and inexpensive.

I’m an experienced home cook and recently moved to a new apartment. It has a dinky 24” wide OLD electric stove. I bake my own bread, so I am very familiar with cooking times and browning rates of various breads, desserts etc. I observed that the oven temp, especially in the high range was way too high. I believed that the bias was 50 – 75 degrees too high in the highest ranges. MIdrange a bias of 25 – 50 degrees. Lower range a bias of 25 degrees.
This “Used” thermometer wasn’t really qualified at all in the product info. Nothing was stated as far as having been re-certified or otherwise tested to original specs. I purchased based on faith and on the greatly discounted price of 50% off original. When I received the item, there was no indication that the item had been tested or re-certified in any way, There was a note thanking me for giving the product a second life!!! NOTE that the product looks BRAND NEW and doesn’t have a scratch.
All that said, when I tested my oven, it proved out exactly as I’d expected to be the temperature bias.
Based on my experience with baking bread weekly as well at pizzas, cakes, I would say that this thermometer performs accurately and appears indistinguishable from a new product other than a slight blemish on the item packaging. I would recommend and purchase again.
