For the last eight years I’ve mostly used the double-shot, single-walled basket that comes with the Breville machines. And it worked fine. Last weekend, on a whim, I ordered the IMS Precision basket, because I heard good things, and it seems to be a bit larger.
As most other reviewers have noted, the results in terms of the shot quality are excellent. I wish I had bought this basket years ago. More flavor, more crema, less channeling and clogging. It’s all true.
The one tiny knock against it is, well, the knock. Getting the dregs puck to come out is harder because the top of the basket is narrower than the bottom. So unless I adjust my level of enthusiasm, I wind up tapping the knockbox 4 or 5 times, before the puck comes flying out.

I think this is the single most important cheap upgrade you can do to this machine. Instantly able to drop my grind one click finer and seeing a nice 1.5-2x yield in 28 secs on an 18g shot. Tastes far better than anything I can buy in a coffee shop near me which I’ll take as a huge win.

If you’re looking for upgrades for your Solis Barista Perfetta plus, I have found that anything that fits the Breville 54mm machines like the Bambino match well.
I got a nice aftermarket bottomless portafilter with a wood handle that was specified as being for Solis 54mm machines. That worked with the stock portafilter, but I did often get splattering and channeling issues.
This basket is a a definite upgrade. For one, it allows me to grind finer with my Breville Smart Grinder Pro. A finer grind helps get a richer espresso with more crema. So that is one upgrade. It also is a tighter fit with the aftermarket portafilter. Splattering and channeling was also improved from the basket change only.
On top of the basket I upgraded the machine with an IMS Precision Shower Screen also made for Breville 54mm machines, and it has been a perfect fit on the Solis. IT is also a major upgrade and my gind is even finer as a result and also channeling and splatters seems to be completely eliminated.
The first 2 shots I pulled on this were clearly better than most I pull on my machine. I’m looking forward to dialing these in and getting consistently great shots.

Contrary to the product title, this does not fit into a stock Bambino Plus portafilter. There is a plastic fitting in the bottom of the portafilter that prevents the basket from going all the way in

There’s nothing wrong with this basket if your machine is designed to handle one this deep. I discovered that my Breville Bambino Plus cannot pull consistent shots with it because it’s not a powerful enough machine.
Instead, the 18g IMS Precision basket is perfect for the Bambino, and I immediately began pulling consistent shots when I switched to it.
The only reason I’m docking this basket a star is so people see it’s not suited for the Bambino, a very popular machine. IMS Precision baskets are perfect if you know what you need.

Okay let’s keep expectations low and real, I’ve fallen way down this rabbit hole of espresso accessories, always looking for some new tool that’s going to take my coffee to that next level, so I’m using the Breville Barista Express, the positives this basket is wider and deeper so it will accept a higher dose of coffee grounds, I went from using 17.3 grams of coffee from the original Breville basket to 20.9 grams in this IMS basket, so yeah the output is a stronger dose of coffee, win, win, right, not so fast, will this basket reduce channeling, I still get the same varied results as with the stock baskets, I will get some clean beautiful shot’s now and then, but I will also get the occasional spurts and splashes,that equals to a mess if you’re using very low cups, I’ve been using this with mesh filters, to help with channeling, just in case, now will the extraction look prettier, yes it does the wider and more perforated basket does result in a much prettier flow of espresso, so to summarize if you’re looking for a higher dose of coffee from the original Breville basket then yes this is a must have, but if you’re looking for the magic solution for the channeling issues this espresso machine has due to it’s mechanical limitations this ain’t it, so as long as your expectations are correct, I do recommend this product!
